I'm not overly keen on a re-release. At least if it's only new artwork.

But I bet I'd buy it anyway.

If the leaked artwork from a few years ago are the real deal, I wouldn't mind getting that on vinyl! Great artwork and correct lyrics etc....

Why re-release a mediocre album?  Jesus.  I guess that shouldn't be a surprise...I mean he still can't move away from AFD and Slash, I guess it's silly to expect him to move on from CD in this relatively short amount of time that's passed since it's release.

Considering of many years he spent on this album. If he feels that the released work lacked a few more or less important details due to other's eagerness to hurry it out the door and he now sees an opportunity to correct these, I see no problem.

It's prolly not in an effort to make extra $$$ on it. But more the satisfaction of knowing that future fans and listeners enjoy his art as he had intended it, even after he's gone.

A re-release of CD, along with a new album?

I saw this quote from Jarmo below that I found interesting, that is to say if he knows anything at all about it...

Also, bear in mind the fact that many of the song titles we know about, are from the same era as Chinese.

IF the next new album features those songs, it wouldn't be so far fetched to put out Chinese properly around the same time in my opinion.

I've seen Jarmo refer to a re-release several times in the past couple of months.
Considering he's been hanging out with Axl alot lately, it's not impossible that the idea has been thrown around the campfire!  smile

A re-release of CD with only new artwork would be...meh!

A re-release of CD with new artwork AND final versions of the songs (if the songs we originally got wasn't final versions) would be kinda cool.

A re-release of CD along with a new album would be totally cool!

You know there aren't many diehards left.  If they tried to cater to them, Axl couldn't even meet payroll.  As personal as we make this a lot of times, it is a business.

I hear you. I'm not under the impression that out of a crowd of 10'000 you got 2 or 3000 diehard-forum-fans. It's prolly such a small number I'd rather not guess! smile

But to cater to us diehards, it's not like they (GNR) need to make the shows totally uninteresting for the avarage rockfan. Rotating two or three new songs would be enough (at least for me). That is, if the plan is to tour off and on for even more years to come with no plans to release a new album.

With so few albums in their backcatalogue, there is a limit for how many world tours they can pull off without alienating the diehards. And as the years go on, even rabid Axlites like me are starting to see the pattern!  smile

And comments from Ashba & Co about awesome new songs, writing new tunes, going into the studio during the next months are worth jack shit. The boys who cried wolf....

My general view of this Vegas-thing is that these sort of shows are what you do if you are Celine Dion or Tom Jones or what ever. From reading the posts in this thread, it might not be totally accurate. I didn't know about Mötley and Prince etc.

So we'll see how it turns out.

But if my fears turn into reality, I'm outta here! At least for the forseeable future....

My point being that I don't think they're (GN'R) doing this for anyone outside of Joe Public.

Well, THAT is my fear. That GNR stop putting on shows that are interesting and worth the effort for us diehards. The last Euro-leg demonstrated that.

In 2006, I traveled to Oslo and saw them because it had been 13 years since I last attended a GNR-gig.

In 2010 I traveled to Bergen and Oslo to see them because I wanted to experience some of the "new" CD-songs live.

If they ONLY focus on Joe Public and don't throw ANYTHING in direction of the diehards, things can only go one way.

My hope is that the title for this Vegas-thing, "Appetite For Democracy", is actually just that. A band that is hungry to take a couple of step forward and in doing so, trying to bring Joe Public along for the ride!

Joe Public gets their fix with AFD. Diehards gets their fix with both AFD og CDII.
The band gets the word out that they are infact willing move forward AND honours the past at the same time.

A win-win for EVERYBODY involved!

I see only one way that this Vegas-thing could be a positive thing for us diehards.

And that is if they use this event to launch the next part of the CD saga.

Example: They play AFD from start to finish. The rest of the setlist contains CD and unheard songs from CDII.

Was just about to post this.

Jeez... Twelve shows in a row in Vegas!

Not sure what to make or what to think about that!

A bunch of shows in Vegas is better than a house-wedding-band in France.

Pretty sure it's not a promotion stunt for the next album!  hmm

We've heard Axl/GNR say something like: "once we sort out the label-thing...".

My guess is that the label want a piece of the touring money. I believe that GNR's contract with UMG back in the day didn't concider that a few years into the future their whole business would be basicly gone.

I can totally understand that Axl goes: "Fuck you UMG! We're not out there performing anything YOU guys created! So stop trying to grab my touring money! You guys can sell the records and make your money there. If it's not selling like it's 1991, adjust your fucking business accordingly! Last 4 years have shown that WE can handle the touring part."

And I can totally understand that UMG goes: "Hey, that's fine with us. We can sit on AFD, LIES, UYI etc etc and be happy until the end of time. Go fuck yourself and stick CDII up your ass!

We, the fans, are the loosers either way....  hmm
