ID actually came over to the dark side an issue or two ago. I've been on vacation, so I don't really remember what it was, but something happened where we were on the same page.

Sorry the NRA and Repubs are about to let you down on the bumpstock issue.
I didn't say that, I said I supported gun regulations. Guys, can we stop putting words in each others mouths? I also said I believe in cuts and smart spending in our military. I shouldn't have to keep repeating what I've said.
You guys make good points, I only point out that when something like this happens everyone goes crazy with trying to ban things and regulate things, but they wouldn't have stopped the tragedy. And no, that doesn't mean do nothing.
The biggest thing is that we spend too much time dehumanizing each other who disagree with us. It's way too tribal and we lose a bit of our own humanity in tearing each other down. Just look at social media. I'm not surprised people could easily kill each other when they treat each other like shit.
Welcome to my world. I know what I said, but sometimes it seems like nobody else does even when you remind them.

Is nobody going to admit that he got off the number of rounds he off due to the bumpstock? So if he didn't have them sure he gets some kills but doubtful he gets the same level of carnage.
So he blows them up instead. I don't waste time getting too excited abut how he did it. I'll admit that if you admit he'd have gotten them anyway even if they were illegal. We're wasting time even discussing this.

I think the focus on bumpstocks and auto weapons is a smoke and mirrors job to look like they are doing something. In reality it doesn't address Americas problems.
Exactly. It's not guns though. It's a society that puts too little value on life, can't handle adversity, and is immune to violence.

Can you cite where any of us said that? Don't start going SLC on us. All any of us said is that there is nothing you can do to prevent bad people from harming others. But feel free to track gun violence from bump stock weapons before and after the bill passes and tell me what kind of impact it had.
None of you supported my request to ban the bumpstock. All cited it was legal and seemed very indifferent to support then said it wouldn't do anything. At minimum it is symbolic. Best case it saves some lives.
It's a waste of time and effort, but it will fool the weak into feeling like they did something. I'll support anything that's an actual solution, but not going to waste my time and energy on symbolism.

There's been a lot of talk in the recent pages about the 2nd Amendment and how we need to have the right to bear arms in case the government turns on us.
I got news for ya, if the government turns on the citizens using the military, your AR15 ain't gonna save ya.
Carry on.
Explaining the why doesn't mean you endorse it. We're not talking cannons vs single-shot rifles here. The gov't has technology way beyond what any citizen has or can legally have.
The best defense is going to be trusting the day to day military folks to not kill other citizens if it ever came to that. Civil war on the other hand would be catastrophic.

Like I said. The usual weak men making the same old tired arguments, capitulating to gun salesmen no less. How absolutely pathetic!
It does work moron. Australia did it. Other countries that have strict gun laws show that it's effective every single day. Yes there may still be crimes that involve guns, but they are a fraction of what we have here.
It won't work here dumbfuck. How many times do I have to repeat this. We can't keep illegal drugs or people out of this country but we're just going to keep guns out? You are one stupid motherfucker.

We have perverted the intent of the 2nd amendment. But go back and read the history of the militias. Fascinating stuff for sure. I love history. I get the purpose of the amendment. We just have abused the hell out of it.
Clearly you trust our gov't (really the politicians) more than I do. I hope you're right, but the amendment exists for a reason and just because we haven't needed it since the civil war doesn't mean we never will.

France shooting resulted in what? 2 deaths? The vegas shooting is 59 dead ... 2 dead in a shooting in the USA prolly doesnt even make the news ... look ... everyone is gonna have their lunatics ... shit happens ... but if u cant see that ur gun laws are fucked up and archaic and that they enable more of this shit to happen on a more frequent basis and at a larger scale then i dunno what to say
Carry on...
Our gun laws exist because of how our country was formed. Armed militia made up of regular people made a huge difference in earning our freedom. The second amendment isn't just about protecting ourselves from criminals. It's also about protecting us from gov't tyranny. Obviously gun technology has changed a lot, but the founding principles still remain. Guns are part of the culture and are never going away. So ideas need to move on from that.

The argument that we can stop all gun violence is a false one. Nobody is making that claim. However we do have evidence that we can greatly reduce it.
Pretty straight forward.
