I think Gilby has aged pretty well.  Matt doesn't look too bad for his age and I like the short hair.

Duff looks gaunt as you stated.  I don't think he has aged that well.  Slash just looks like he's gotten a little fatter.

It's funny how both of the drummers were the only 2 to challenge (not put up with Axl's habits) back in the era of classic gnr.

Izzy probably won't show.   Slash will probably perform with Miles Kennedy who is going to Cleveland.

I think he's one of the best songwriters of all time, but that doesn't mean he should be running a multinational brand like GNR. Frankly he doesn't have the business education, or the stability of emotion to do so. I'd like to see him forget about the law suits and the running of the company and go back to being what he really is - an amazing artist.  And that could happen with whoever he works with - as soon as he accepts he shouldn't be in total control of every decision.

So it comes down to this, sure I respect Axl's integrity and strength of character, but I think for a lot of people it comes down to the fact that it's been obvious for decades that he's in the WRONG when it comes to the idea that GNR was ever only about him or that he should be the one to make the business decisions.

Great post.  Yeah, his biggest problems from the original breakup are that he doesn't have anyone to deal with the business side of things.  Most of his managers either have zero experience in dealing with the business side of things or are just plain yes men.  The one guy who knew what he was doing managed to get Axl to release an album.  I'm not asking for Azoff to come back but I'm just pointing it out.  A real manager would have just got up in his face in the late 1990s-early 2000s and told him to stop wasting money on booking studio time if he wasn't going to show up and record.

On the recording side of things, I think he needs someone to motivate him to work on a daily or weekly basis.  I don't know whether or not it's a musician or an assistant who just needs to tell him this--get your ass in the studio and record something.

Yup, I saw that yesterday and it was like 2,600 comments or so.  Most of those people aren't happy at all.  It sounds like half (probably more) are casual fans.

Pirates are looking to be a fluke in the first half last year, and I can't see them spending alot of money, nor holding on to McCutchen too much longer. Cubs might flirt around 4th place, but more than likely will be a 90+ loss team easily. Look for the Cubbies to try to move Soriano, Dempster, Wood, and whoever else they can possibly exchange for prospects come mid-season

They actually resigned McCutchen to a long term deal.  So I don't think he's going anywhere just yet.  I don't trust the GM to get a good return so it's probably better that he stays put.  What's actually killing them is that Pedro Alvarez is turning into a gigantic disappointment.  He's the only guy outside of McCutchen (who probably only has 25-30 hr power) who is a legitimate power threat in the lineup.  It makes me wish they had drafted Eric Hosmer instead.

On the Cubs, I think Garza is still the guy who'll probably get the best prospects.  The issue is whether or not they should trade him.  I believe he is signed through next year.  The Cubs don't really have MLB ready pitchers in the minors.  FA has Cole Hamels and Zach Greinke.  I suspect they'll probably be outbid for Hamels.  Greinke may or may not want to play in a big market.  But the Cubs need top end prospects (even if at the A+ ball level) in the worst way, especially at 3b.

You have more patience than I do. I'd get sick of him. His pretentious vibe would drive me nuts. The fact he comes off as though he genuinely feels his words carry more weight and have more substance than the average person irritates me.  You can see it in his letter, the guy thinks he's above everyone and everything. Plus I'd lose my mind listening to him blame everyone and everything else for everything. And you know he would.

I'd find him interesting but man when he goes into though long winded confusing answers it would drive me nuts like Bono.  The weird thing is half of his prose is pretty straightforward but then he just goes off on these long tangents and I just get confused.  Sometimes simpler is better.

I do feel sorry for those people who shelled out a lot of money to attend the HOF ceremony though.  I'm talking about the casual fans who haven't really followed the saga since 1995 or so.

Time for a thread bump since the season has finally started.

General impressions (that probably don't mean much) after a week of games:

Tigers will win the Central in a cakewalk.  Will the White Sox win enough games for Kenny Williams to avoid being canned after the year?  This was mentioned a few pages ago but his roster construction of the White Sox is brutal.

AL East--murderer's row division.  Rays, Yankess, Blue Jays, and Sox all look like contenders.  Sox still in hangover mode though.  Actually the new playoff format will probably help these teams.

AL West--Mariners offense looks better than expected.  Cespedes looks like Sosa with Cubs in the early to mid 90s.  Rangers look like a playoff lock to me.

NL West--Padres look like one of the worst teams in baseball.  I don't think the Dodgers have enough offense to win the division.  Lincecum's velocity is down and he's gotten shelled the past two starts.  This is Arizona's division to lose.

NL Central--Three team race with Cards, Brewers and Reds.  Bottom half is brutal with the rebuilding Cubs, offensively challenged Pirates and another rebuilding team in the Astros.  Pirates are the most boring team in the league to watch.

NL East--Nats have a chance at this.  The Phillies are very suspect on offense and need Howard to come back pronto.  I've given up on Utley with his bad knees.  The Marlins, who really knows?  All I can say is that I didn't expect Ozzie to put his foot in his mouth so early in the season.

He's going to have problems with Interscope wanting to release another Guns N' Roses record without Slash on it.

Who are we kidding anyway?  He'll probably take months in the studio trying to find the correct guitar solo to cut and paste in.

Well my take on the whole thing....

First thoughts are he is a very bitter old man that doesn't appear to have grown one ounce over the last 20 odd years.  Rather he seems to have gotten worse, he is even more bitter and nasty now if that's possible.  Not that I needed this HOF statement to confirm that.

As Monkey said, it seems the fact that he can't control this whole thing is definitely an element in his decision not to be there.  Sounds like he has tried to negotiate with them over who is going, or who gets to play or maybe even who gets inducted.

I thought this comment was interesting:

the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony doesn't appear to be somewhere I'm actually wanted or respected.

Maybe it was a big shock for him to come up against someone that actually said "NO" to him for a change. Must be a slap in the face to find out that not everybody bows down at the Rose Altar.  Although just because someone didn't agree with him or bend over to accomodate him it doesn't automatically mean he's not wanted or respected.  But then again when those people you sourround yourself with for years don't have the word "No" in their vocabulary when you want something, it must come as quite a shock when confronted with it.

Another point, who is this "we" he speaks of?  Is he not his own fucking man?

Since then we've listened to fans

Under the circumstances I feel we've been polite, courteous, and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out.

For more than a decade and a half we've endured the double standards

This letter is to help clarify things from my and my camp's perspective

I'm sure it is the Lebeis' and Del no doubt.  This whole "our camp" thing is really divisive.  He speaks like they are waring factions and they all sit around a table and discuss their military strategy for everything.  I'm sure they probably get involved in the decision making these days on when is a good time for him to take a shit.  Why can't he man up and just say "I'.  Take your balls out of your camps purse and be your own man for once, make your own decisions.  The irony of him having a swipe at "the greed of this industry and the ever present seemingly limitless supply of wannabes and unscrupulous, irresponsible media types".  Is he not able to see the greed and conflict of interest of those around him that are sitting on his own gravy train?

I also find these two statement contradictary:

had discussions with the president of the Hall Of Fame,......Under the circumstances I feel we've been polite, courteous, and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out.

Neither I or anyone in my camp has made any requests or demands of the Hall Of Fame. It's their show not mine.

If you haven't made any requests or demands then what is there to "work out".  If you are after an "amicable solution", this implies a solution that is acceptable to both parties.  Therefore it must involve some type of requests or demands from both sides.  So which is it?

I thought this was a swipe at Sorum too:

along with those the Hall for reasons of their own, have chosen to include in "our" induction (that for the record are decisions I don't agree with, support or feel the Hall has any right to make

But if he doesn't feel Sorum should be there then I would have thought by logical extension that it means Dizzy shouldn't be there either.  Nice!

Finally, to refuse to accept his induction altogether is unforgiveable.  That to me is another chance for him to indirectly control/influence the other old guys by basically shitting on their parade.  By all means don't go for whatever petty reasons but seriously, don't fucken refuse the award.  Yes it's his right, but fuck me have some level of graciousness and consideration for others for just once in your life.

I found this curious too:

but from my perspective in regard to both the Hall and a reunion, the ball's never been in our court.

Is he implying the ball is in Slash's court for a reunion???  What does he want him to do?

Rep for Aussie for cutting through the BS and pointing out all the contradictions in this letter.

I was confused on who the "we" in the letter was as well.

#1149 Re: Guns N' Roses » RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements) » 735 weeks ago

You know I never fully expected him to go there and perform with the old band.  But I did expect to go up there and accept the induction with the other guys.  If he wanted to he could just stay away from Slash and Adler and just leave afterward in the private jet.

Instead, he pulls out the old "mysterious forces" excuse again.  Sometimes in life, we all do things we don't want to.  I thought he would have shown if only to thank the fans.  Those fans are the only reason he has that huge mansion in Malibu.

Contrast that with the Duff letter from yesterday.  Duff seems totally appreciative of the love that he received from the fans.  Yeah, he could have no showed but he chose to go to give back a little to the fans who have given him a lot over the years.

Axl should have followed that example.  I totally forgot that this letter came out 3 days before the induction.  It stinks for the fans who learned of this at the last minute.

#1150 Re: Guns N' Roses » RRHoF Discussion (Izzy/Slash/Axl Press Statements) » 735 weeks ago

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a cop out.  Even Axl isn't that insane to think that any of the new guys deserve induction into the hall of fame.
