The China Exchange interview seemed to show that Axl didn't really give a fuck either way. He'd accomodate if Slash wanted to play on it but that he wanted to release more music as Guns n' Roses and he had a lot recorded already.

It was interesting too how he said he might do a book one day but he doesn't want his opinion of history to cause a rift with slash.

This makes me wonder if the situation might be that he hopes Slash will want to re-do the CD songs but if it turns out he doesn't then he'll have to work out if he can get away with releasing non-slash versions with Slash in the band.

But I agree...somewhere there's nearly 2 albums left of stuff...at some point you think they'd do something with it huh!

Ron took advantage of the situation by toying with fans.

What do you mean by this?

Ron was always loved by fans for being one of the few to give straight talking answers from the beginning.

Towards the end of his tenure he was clearly frustrated and trying to motivate the band into doing something by his constant references to how great it would be to record with the guys, and his project of releasing single solos digitally monthly which I think might have been to try and inspire them that it doesn't have to be a twisted psychological process to release a song.

He was coy about having left for a time because he was directly asked not to discuss it by GNR management - and given the reunion we now have a pretty good idea why.

As far as Ron being bullied, that was school playground shit compared to what Bucket endured.

Perhaps but it still shows the organisation has no grounds to be pissy at him when it was a toxic workplace that disrespected him and a health issue he suffered.

In terms of an "easy target" I feel Ron is that - maybe because people like Bucket - but it's become fashionable to bash Ron when basically he never did anything wrong and yet the pattern behaviour of fuckheadery in regards to how this thing has been run for decades gets a pass. It's ron that's the problem? I don't think so.

IMO no chance in hell Ron comes back for anything. The way Ron handled that situation turned it into a clusterfuck. The GNR camp weren't too fond of that situation.

They shouldn't have acted like assholes towards him for so long then.

I mean bullying him when he got in the band, then as with others the complete and utter misuse of his skills, and then absolute discourtesy and disrespect towards his back condition and illness.

Frankly they are lucky he was as polite about the clusterfuck of nu-GNR and their management as he has been for 10 plus years. He could damn them to hell in the media by coming clean on some of this stuff.

I also find it really absurd how everyone got pissy at Ron for a handful of frustrated upset posts on message boards because it was 'unprofessional' when team brazil has for years been the very definition of unprofessional and Axl and Fernando and others go on similar rants all the time when they are moody.

Anything is possible with GNR, however I see it as Highly Unlikely.

Maybe some kind of one off jam if it had a lot of famous people around as well - like Angus or Joe Perry or some type of muti-guitar line up for a specific song as a special occasion or something.

However over all I don't think so:

Firstly, a cameo from Robin or Bucket kinda treads on Slash's toes as the lead guitarist.

It's different to when Tommy stepped out for Duff, or Richard for Izzy or Frank for Adler, because those were instances of swapping out a modern replacement for a classic era founder. It doesn't go in reverse. Swapping Slash out for Robin would be a WTF for 99% of the audience and maybe slash as well.

Secondly, I'm not even sure Axl holds a candle for that line up. I forget his exact words but he said something at the chinese exchange interview along the lines of him being proud/fond of the line up just prior to reunion. So I'd rate a cameo of DJ/Bumble as more likely that Robin/Bucket.

My reasoning is:

1. Rumour is that Slash has already done some recording for GNR: http://www.guitarworld.com/artists-arti … oses/28734

2. In the Chinese Interview - Axl implied that perhaps he could add Slash to unreleased CD2 tracks if Slash was interested but it sounded like it hadn't happened yet from the phrasing.

Thus it would seem Slash either recorded new riffs or perhaps had a tinker with CD.

Too late to nail down some fresh takes on 16 year old tracks and in the case of TIL, 24 years old?

Now you're being silly... tongue

Slash doesn't tend to revisit things very often though. Only example I can think of is his re-record of PC on the solo album.

But often he does a basic solo - say Anastasia - and then that's made awesome during the live tour - he amends it as it goes - and it ends up better. Another example is Dr Alibi that got better during the tour.

Anyway what I mean is that if Slash put down a solo in January, and then now he's playing a better solo, will either he or the people around him notice that it needs redoing? Or will they just go with the existing slash-redo from january? How many times would slash and duff re-do Chinese Dem is my point....hopefully they do after this tour when they're practised at the material - but if they've already done it - then it might be too late in the sense they won't bother.

It does feel like Slash has nailed his version of the TIL solo now. The previous ones felt like he was jamming, finding his way around it and just noodling; this version feels like it has a narrative, it builds to something, it has peaks and troughs. They should get this version down on tape in the studio.

Indeed and put the high vocals from the Brain re-mix on it!

Although wasn't there a rumour Slash and Duff were doing some GNR recording back when the first shows were announced? Might be too late.

#1348 Re: The Garden » 2016 Presidential Election Thread » 511 weeks ago

I've worked out what this election is.

It's the battle between "So Fine" and "My World" for the best GNR song:

Trump is like "My World". Fundamentally it's a self-interested project that other than it's pure-brashness of doing it's own thing doesn't really have a GNR related vibe. It's not going to be good for the group that's for sure, and when you look at the qualities you expect in a GNR song like a huge guitar solo - they're just entirely absent. Yet, despite it's obvious flaws, it's so different to the rest of the album that it's sickly appealing in it's own way.

Hillary is "So Fine". Everyone agreed we should mix it up and not make a second "Shotgun Blues" but somehow in the battle to progress we came up with the idea of having Duff on lead vocals. It's clearly not working but we can't go back now. The song is sort of awkward, you can't tell if it's a parody of a soft song, an early soft song, a cynical easy soft song or if it's just not properly thought out. There's still some good stuff buried somewhere like a strong slash solo but overall you're left with the feeling that you wanted to like it more than you did. It just feels kinda off - but then again - it's more like the GNR you're used to than My World I guess.

Meanwhile somewhere else on the record lies You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Coma and Estranged....but this contest is about My World vs So Fine.

And it's nearly time to vote.

3 Months more of this to go.

Then only 4 years of whichever muppet gets in.

Then if there isn't a world war happening you'll be able to take another shot at it!

#1350 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses tour to continue through 2017(and beyond) » 511 weeks ago

Well let's hope you guys are right then and it's smooth sailing from now on.

Going back through Chinese Whispers it seems there's a pretty productive period around 93-95 where Slash had riffs and Axl had piano songs, lots of old ideas to work with.
