I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole.
I found this line very interesting. You see this approach a lot in modern Axl remarks and interviews I think - he often starts a statement with a type of advance disclaimer "This is not to suggest X but I found that Y" - as if he pre-considers a lot how people will respond to what he says now.
Likewise I think the lyrics all over Chinese Democracy are a little more cryptic than in previous releases. The still have that Axl's true life feel - but they're a little less direct in the way they make the points I think.

The thing is even if it is "cultural" amongst the african american community, that culture didn't arise in a vacuum, it didn't evolve with no relationship to the generations of poverty, inequality, incarceration-heavy, gun-heavy, corporation-favouring, social structure that is modern America.
#1403 Re: Guns N' Roses » Ideal Setlist Part 2: Coma vs. There Was A Time » 513 weeks ago
Tough one...Coma is GNR's most unique song....TWAT has Axl's best vocal performance in those screams.
Although I understand Atari's reasoning in putting these two against each other, I think the band themselves would be more logical to alternate Estranged and Twat - as they're similar songs - lengthy ballads made rocky with sizable guitar parts.
At this stage I think there's more good Coma footage than Twat footage so for a few shows at least I'd like it swapped around until someone films an epic version for me

It doesn't look like that'll change anytime soon, so all the complaining isn't accomplishing much.
True but then complaining didn't get us the album or the reunion either.....or did it....hahahahahahah

I know I'm in the huge minority but I love how they perform The Seeker! I really don't understand the overwhelming hate that song gets. With that being said, I saw them perform that song last time, so I'd prefer Slither, Breakdown, Yesterdays, another CD song, etc. if given the choice. But if they do play it, and it looks like they will, I will rock the F out to it! If no one joins me, so be it.
In isolation it's ok.
It's not like it's a bad song or badly done.
My issue with it is the opportunity cost of it.
Like I see it as a placeholder song that is hogging a spot in the setlist where we could have Sailing, or TWAT, or any number of the great things they hardly ever do, or indeed the amazing covers you could do with Slash/Fortus/Axl on board....
I'd be the same, I'd rock out to it when it's on - it just frustrates me that it's a regular-automatic inclusion last few years when there's so many originals and other long lost stuff that lives on the alternate list only or worse is just not included at all.

This isn't it but on a similar theme:
Why didn't you write 'Appetite'-style songs yourself then?
Part of what destroyed Guns was the battle between those guitars that works so well for 'Appetite.' I have no concept how to duplicate that with either the old guys or anyone else. I liked it then but can't say I truly understood their nature as I feel I do now. Make no mistake: That was a war and the efforts of one man to "successfully" remove another in his path between him and I. Neither player wants to deal with each other in those ways again. Those battles have already been fought, both sides went their prospective ways. Regardless of if they were to work together or not, the true dynamics of back then aren't something Izzy has an interest in or would allow himself to actually be in to such a degree other than for appearances, if that. Also, anything I had written I felt was in similar directions then, during and after the 'Illusions' tour was more than rejected by both Slash and Duff at a time, which greatly helped destroy whatever confidence I may have had at the time.
#1407 Re: Guns N' Roses » Ideal Setlist Part 1: Don't Cry vs. Patience » 513 weeks ago
I loved both of these songs back in the day, but these days there's so many ballads in the set list that I'm a bit ambivalent to either of them to be honest.
#1408 Re: Guns N' Roses » 14/7/16 LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD, PHILADELPHIA, PA UNITED STATES » 513 weeks ago
I don't see it that way.
Buckethead and Bumblefoot are amongst my favourite guitarists and musicians I deeply admire.
However the band was a shell of its former self from the gig Slash left to the gig where he returned.
The CD songs are some of my favourite GNR songs, but aside from Shackler and Riad, most of the solos on them are simply aping what Slash would have done anyway (TIL, better outro, Sorry etc), and now he's back he's doing them more like his other songs - which are the songs that made him the rock player of his generation.
The other guys are great guitarists, but at the end of the day guitarwise GNR is Slash's band.
#1409 Re: The Garden » Attack in Nice, France - dozens dead » 513 weeks ago
This has to stop. The world doesn't like my solution to this and neither do I but as I say every time an attack happens, we're one major attack away from the US and Russia going into the Middle East and just killing anything that moves.
That plan involves murdering around 200+ million people though - most of which are not terrorists. If that plan is enacted it becomes the worst mass killing ever - it would make hitler and stalin seem pretty minor. There's just too much loss of innocent life involved for that to ever be the chosen path I think. Even if you find a leader who wants to do it - will the world populace just comply with such an act?
So then you have lesser measures like invasions. The problem with those is that they tend to cause more hostility in the long run. The options are indefinite forced occupations - but then you wind up with insurgents and resistance groups as you're seen as an oppressor. How many generations will American people tolerate their sons dying in car bombs while you occupy Jordan?? Then the other choice is winning a 'war' then setting up puppet governments - but then that tends to create power vacuums and so on - the situation in Syria has occurred the way it has in part because of the Iraq war.
Let alone if these invasions are jointly done by the world powers how will they then divide up the territory - would we end up with a new berlin wall situation between the USSR, Chinese and USA areas of the middle east?
It's a really impossible problem.
The solution would seem to be cultural shift in the middle east and getting them to think like us rather than killing them - but they may not want that, and even then....how..

I dunno but I like it more than when Bucket tried to emulate Slash
I guess he failed miserably then, because those Nightrain solos in the early 2000's were better than anything Slash version ever played live.
Yeah...no they're not....Slash's version carries on the story of the song...bucket's does some impressive paul gilbert shred runs....but you know...not the right place for it.
