Trump fires campaign boss Lewandowski

The campaign manager for presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been fired.

A campaign spokeswoman said Corey Lewandowski would no longer be working on it and said the team was grateful to him "for his hard work and dedication".

Speaking on CNN, he did not deny being fired, replying "I don't know" when asked why he was let go.

He oversaw the New Yorker's unlikely triumph in the primary contests.

The exact reason for Mr Lewandowski's departure is not yet clear but he denied it was to do with his abrasive style.

His departure comes as the businessman faces strong resistance from senior members of his own party over his strident tone, hardline immigration policy and falling poll numbers.

Mr Lewandowski was not escorted from the building as some reported but accompanied by a "friend from the campaign", he told CNN, saying it had been a privilege to work on the team.

He also denied he had not been getting along with top Trump strategist Paul Manafort and the Trump children.

Mr Lewandowski has had a contentious relationship with the press. Earlier this year, he was charged with battery after allegedly yanking a female reporter out of Mr Trump's way after a campaign event. The charges were dropped.

One Trump campaign staff member told NBC News that the campaign was not briefed on Mr Lewandowski's firing and that right now there is "bedlam in the Trump campaign. No one knows what is happening".

Republicans have started to distance themselves from Mr Trump following his personal attacks against a Hispanic federal judge overseeing two lawsuits against him.

Among his critics is Speaker of the House and top-ranked Republican Paul Ryan, who appeared to leave the door open to a possible revolt at next month's convention.

I think this is quite horrifying to both musicians and fans of music. What is the incentive to make great music if there isn't a sustainable economy for you? I get the appeal of streaming but it's also requires either Wi-Fi or a continuous suck on your limited data package. You're paying the $X on data that you could've spent on music that benefits your favorite artists.

The whole thing seems topsy turvy to me.

That won't be a problem. No real artist ever did it for the money. Getting out of the record label economy is actually a good thing. They've long since lost interest in promoting proper music and helping real bands make it, so what are they offering? A contract limiting your freedom? Recording equipment you can pretty much match on a 2k laptop?

These days the money is in touring, and it's decent money if you got fans. And with the internet and social media you are no longer dependent on a big label to get the word out. If the music is good and you put in the effort, you will get fans. You won't be bathing in cash perhaps, but make a comfortable living should be very attainable if you got the talent (or just the work ethic, Kiss are millionaires).

I'm far more worried about the lack of creativity in the movie industry. Where does a real artist find work there these days? Most of them are doing tv work, but even that is getting completely taken over by commercial interests. Not like you can make a movie in a home studio like a musician can.

Greece strangled that tournament. France had a good, exciting team too, but were stopped short by the negative tactics. Beat them in the QF, then a marvelous Czech team in the SF, before extinguishing all joy in Portugal in the final.

Was entertaining when it all happened, but in hindsight it turned what could have been a great EUROs into one of the worst.

France and Spain have the easiest way to the final. Particularly Spain, where England, Portugal or Belgium are looking to be their major challengers. France will have to square off with either Germany or Italy to win their almost guaranteed semi final.

This is England's time to do it though. If they win the group they can look forward to an easy round of 16 game, then face off against Belgium/Portugal (worst case scenarios), both doable.

Only if the other team is English.

Yes, depends on the other groups.

That's the good thing about the system, every team still has something to play for. It has been very cautious up to now, but also tight. Not really any minnows getting beat easily every game. The knockouts are shaping up to become very good as all the favorites have met expectations and will likely advance as group winners. Should make for some classic matchups down the line, and those are the games we remember.
