ENGINEERS in the US are working on a spy drone that can fly virtually silently into a city and perch vertically undetected on any wall for days.

Called the "Perching Project", the technology behind the drone is being developed at Stanford University.

A video released this week shows the team has had significant success in getting a model plane travelling at 35km/h to automatically stall as it senses a vertical surface, then cling onto it with tiny spines.

According to Stanford professor Mark Cutkosky and student Alexis Desbiens, the technology could lead to "a flock of small, unmanned air vehicles (that) flies quietly into a city, maneuvering among the buildings".

"They communicate as they search for places to land, not on streets or rooftops but on the sides of buildings and under the eaves, where they can cling, bat- or insect-like, in relative safety and obscurity," they wrote.

Undetected, the drones could cling to a wall for days, recording sound and vision, while possibly recharging if necessary.

Using a small propellor, the drone can creep along a wall until it finds an ideal position.

When it's ready to report back, the hooks disengege and the plane performs a small jump backwards before righting itself and flying off.

Yeah when VR first came to Australia I bought my ticket for the Perth gig (even had it in my hands) then just before the tour started they cancelled the Perth date.  Obviously VR never made it back to Oz on the Libertad tour as the Weiland problems occured and the wheels fell off before it happened.

When GNR last toured with Slash in 1993 they played 2 shows, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne (the other side of the country for me).  I was only 18 or 19 at the time and couldn't afford to fly to the east coast to see them (plane travel within Australia is ridiculously expensive). Prior to that they came to Oz in 1988 - same deal only 2 shows on the east coast and I was 13 or 14.

So I have never had the pleasure of seeing this motherfucker live sad

Haha yeah that Axl figure Russ is obviously homemade from an old WWF figure (but I'm sure you could probably tell that).  I saw it on ebay years ago and picked it up for next to nothing, mainly coz I thought it looked funny.  Here are some better pics:

I believe this is the wrestling figure it was made from, or at the least where the shirt around it's waist is from:

There was also this home made one shortly after I bought mine, but the price went too high so I didnt' bid.  I don't recall Axl looking that Buff at the VMA's/ RIR 16:

That image you posted Drl_love I have seen before. It looks like a professional job and I have been told by a few people in the past that it was a picture that was on an old ComicCon poster.  Sadly it was never released offically though.

I found this really cool one owned by some guy in Brazil.  He told me it was made locally there by hand from wood.  It actually looks pretty cool:

There are a few other lame unoffical Axl dolls like these ones:
