no way - fans remember the lyrics, fans that have never once rehearsed the songs.
only nerves would cause him to forget the lyrics.
that`s what i`m saying...

I lol'd at that...but I actually think you're wrong about it.
I think there's soft romantic Axl who writes November Rain and tried to win back his woman on a horse, then there's angry Axl who writes Get in the Ring and pushed a grand piano out a glass window. They are the same guy.
Likewise I suspect there's timid home Axl, who we got a little glimpse of at that basketball game, he doesn't like the media attention, is high critical and analytical of himself and everyone else. Probably sees the things we see that's wrong with GNR and sees them 10 times worse. Then there's axl the rock god with no fear who will take on an entire crowd in his undies and fight the guy in the front with the camera. Also the same guy. The key is getting which one you need on which day you need it.
The whole tent off stage thing and the retreats from stage is also consistent with an element of a security blanket, as is only adding 1 new song to the setlist a year...you know you can do that show cos you survived it last time.
Also - like u say - make it 5 and he goes on at 6.30 - you could say it's a diva, but I can say it's just further proof that it's not the actual start time that's the problem - it's the actual act of going on stage at all at any predetermined moment.
I think there's been a lot of excuses over the years, partially cos of perspective and partially cos it's not exactly rock and roll to come out and say you have anxiety.
Apologies to Axl if I'm off base here, but this theory really seems the most plausible to me. Seems to explain a lot of prior events, from the late starts, to the way major shows often are the ones that go wrong, to the stagnant set list to the reclusive behaviour before and after gigs and to the wall his handlers keep him behind.
i think the teleprompters add up to that as well. people use that stuff, because they`re afraid of a blackout. we all saw him during november rain at rio, desperately looking for the lyrics of a song he`s performed live for 700 times now, but the teleprompters were out of his reach. he was not quite the laid back rock star at that moment... of course one can argue, that he`s just too lazy to rehearse and hadn`t sung the song for a year or so, but come on, it was november rain!!

i don`t think it`s really appropriate to bitch about the setlists anymore... first time i saw gnr was at rock am ring and they played 17 songs, 8 being from appetite and it was a fantastic show. now they`re playing almost 10 more songs, including a lot of chinese democracy stuff, don`t cry, civil war and estranged! i personally can`t wait for that! axl getting in a better shape would be appreciated though...

the point is, if there`s no slash, there`s no gnr. it`s been that way since 1996 and will continue to be that way until he`s back in the band. axl had the chance to change it to a certain degree by releasing some kickass music and being out there to promote it, but we all know how that went down... at this point it seems, he doesn`t even want to change it anymore unlike 2001-2006. don`t get me wrong, i enjoy chinese democracy with all the flaws it obviously has, i`m going to see the band live again this summer and i`d be more than happy to get a new album this year, but after all these years of bullshit, a reunion would be the only thing to save axl`s career outside of these fanboy forums. go and read mygnr and the bullshit that`s spewed over there. people completely out of touch with reality still doing the axl vs. slash thing and calling slash "saul", "mr. hudson" or "cancer"... and all that`s happening at a time, when axl is basically trying to look like he did 25 years ago, trying to have gnr look and sound as they did 25 years ago and having a slash wannabe as lead guitarist, who behaves and sounds like him. i don`t want to start a discussion wether dj ashba is a slash wannabe or not, but to the general public he certainly is...
logically this all leads to one thing: a reunion! a reunion which probably won`t happen though, because axl is crazy...

he`s certainly not appearing late for the sake of it. too many dollars at stake for that... the late night fees seem to lessen the band`s salary by a good chunk
#166 Re: Guns N' Roses » Roseland Ballroom, NYC 02/10/12 » 723 weeks ago
yep....no effort to get new music out. That is my problem as well. Like I said after my Atlanta show, I'm over the Chinese era unless he is inclined to release some unheard songs (which, apparently, he is not).
These current shows seem to be just for fun, and I don't blame them for that. However, the Euro tour seems to be nothing but an excuse for Axl to avoid the RRHOF.
how is a european tour in may-july going to stop him from being at the RRHOF ceremony in mid april?? it also seems, that if we get to hear new music, it`s at the european shows, as mentioned in various articles about the shows...

imo axl shouldn`t try to cover, that he`s fat. basically that`s what he`s doing right now. he should work out and get in better shape for fucks sake! in better physical and vocal shape! he was fit in 2002, he was fit in 2006, he was fit in 2009, but since rio he looks like a shadow of his self. it`s laziness, not age! if he`s planning on singing and looking like this next to slash at the RRHOF, he better stays away to be honest...
#168 Re: The Sunset Strip » Whitney Houston Dead at 48 » 724 weeks ago
really sad to hear that.
it makes me appreciate, how special the RRHOF induction of guns n roses really is. it`s almost a mircale, that those 5 guys are still alive!

axl was the most sober, but also the most crazy...

as a fan of myles and alter bridge, i`m quite sure of that. alhough it had it´s moments!
I lol'd at that...but I actually think you're wrong about it.
