I have the ability to travel to NYC if needed for a show but I'd need a little notice.
If they're planning on just doing a bunch of "surprise shows" that'll suck for a lot of real fans of the band that could've seen the shows.
Yeah I agree! If I lived anywhere near NYC, this sort of stuff would frustrate me BIG TIME!

Did I miss something, are they dropping a new album, or is it the same Chinese democracy tour again?
I've noticed Metallica are planning a tour of Europe in the coming months. I have heard they're also gonna be recording during 2012.
So are they touring Death Magnetic from 2008? No, the Lou Reed album doesen't count! No, they're touring with their hits (actually they're litteraly touring The Black Album from 1991, playing the whole album start to finish!) and playing songs the fans want to hear and see.

6 shows in France?? Is that the norm for their Euro tours?
I guess that's the thing. Considering how large France is, the previous tours have had few stops there. I guess this Euro-tour may try and add cities that didn't get a visit last time, pluss the usual large cities (Dublin etc)

I get what you're saying, but to me you don't need a reason to tour. If an artist wants to perform, they should do so. If people want to watch them, they should. IMO, everything shouldn't be about selling albums, etc.
And it isn't. At least in the sense of touring to make money off of albumsales.
Like we've discussed before. From a money-making point of view, an album is promotion for the shows. And it's been that way for many years now!
From my POV, if GNR needs to tour to make some money to fund further recordings. Bring it on!

Something kinda off the mark like that would be the most interesting thing GN'R has did in years. It'd also give credit to those initial tour rumors before the announcement of the NA tour, which saw rumored dates at THEATERS, rather than arenas.
This idea has obviously been floating around in their heads for awhile.

Saw this over at htgth. Say what you want about Jarmo, but he's not in the habit of posting wild rumors with no base in reality. So my guess is that something is under way for Europe in a few months!
