President Trump on Monday said he announced his pardon of former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio as Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas because he “assumed the ratings would be far higher.”

That is completely insane. It really is a TV show to him.

Someone had to enforce the laws.  Obama was more interested in violating the constitution and trying to provide legal status for millions of illegals.  People upset about this but remained silent or actively supported DACA don't have my credibility in my eyes.  Send them all back home.  Respect our laws like they demand we respect theirs.

I was let down by it. It wasn't bad. No complaints perse.  I just thought it was slow in parts and incredibly rushed in others. Sam showing up with information Bran didn't know about Jon's parents was just too much too quickly.

The dragon pit scene was cool, but it just seemed to drag on. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the dialogue. Which begs the question why did we need a 45 minute episode when they've shown they can still create dialogue. It just didn't really accomplish much of the story in this episode. Instead, Thoros and Viseryion died for nothing, as the entire trip accomplished nothing except for finally breaking Jamie from Cersei. Hell of a price to pay for that. Hope it ends up meaning something.

I watched. That McGregor went 10 rounds says a lot. Floyd is one of the greats, and some guy who's never boxed professionally almost went the distance.

You guys do know the Civil War was not about slavery, right? It was about MONEY and then Slavery became a convenient talking point where the importantence grew and grew. The south had the better generals. The North was had more money and soldiers but were lead by a damn drunk. The North also had slaves... basically in many ways the North was oppressing the South. I am glad the North won and we are one country and slavery was ended. But let's not live in a fairytale and pretend the war was about freeing blacks. It simply was not.

It wasn't freeing the slaves, but it certainly was about slavery.  The missouri compromise, the stark difference in industry versus agriculture, all led to this.  Lincoln's intent was to send slaves back to Africa to start their own country (which they did in what is now called Liberia).  So you're right that portraying Lincoln as some great liberator is inaccurate.  But your rank and file southerner didn't own a slave, they couldn't afford one.  I think the average slave costs around $50k in 2017 dollars, so not something most people could afford.  There weren't credit cards or a thriving loan industry in the 1860s.

Ending slavery without a huge economic investment in the South would have been a fiasco.  Even train tracks were different sizes between the North and South, limiting how goods could be moved.  Had Johnson not started reconstruction following the war, it's very likely the peaceful outcome of the war wouldn't have manifested.

I couldn't tell you where the nearest confederate monument is to me. Gettysburg?  Nor could I tell you the closest union monument to me. Gettysburg?

I just think a bunch of bored people with too much time and comfort are looking for ways to be insulted. Slavery ended 150 years ago. No one alive had anything to do with it. We might as well be discussing the battle of Thermopylae.

I keep hearing about how Confederate statues preserve our history and heritage, and taking them down would erase that.

To that I say, where are all the monuments to the slaves or freedmen or those who led slave rebellions?

Watching again, wouldn't it make more sense if Cersi demanded proof of the dead which caused the hunt? I mean, it's a pretty shitty thing to ask. Why didn't the dragon Rhaegal come back for Jon? Shouldn't Jon have charged the Night King to help them escape? He could still fall through the ice. These are just a few things....

According to the leaker there was an easter egg in this last episode that's a spoiler for next season. Anyone got any ideas?

How would they know it was a spoiler for next season?

Someone shared this on Facebook. I found it a good read and commentary on the current climate of just accusing others of racism with loose connections:

The more I think on it the less happy I am with the episode.  It was suspense the entire episode, so in the moment it was great.  But it just comes across as a poor fan fiction with the plot holes.  We've waited to see Dany's dragons face off against the Others for over 6 years, and this was just disappointing after further thought.

It was the same with the Star Wars prequels.  Exiting the theater I was on cloud 9.  But then you think how corny child Anakin was, how cartoony Yoda fighting Dooku was, and how stupid dying of a "broken heart" was. With GoT, we had LF handing Sansa over to Ramsay, Arya being stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen only to fall into a sewer and not miss a beat as if she was Wolverine, and now a raven traveling 1000 miles and 3 dragons flying 1000 back in the span of 24 hours.

The entire speech was embarrassing. The crowd chanting "CNN sucks" to the president is beyond absurd. People don't behave like that.
