he'd get sued by anyone and everyone, and gnr would tour the world ten times over just to pay for the court case....he may even be forced to let the album out, for some additional income....so i'd feel great, because then they might just consider SA as a worthy destination for a gig....

I agree. For some strange reasons, I see a better chance for CD to be released if he retires. Until then we (fans and the record company) will always have a slight hope and it helps him not to release it. When we won't have anything, Universal will sue the shit outta him. Anyway, he'll never announce his retirement, even if he decides to give up. Old albums and GN'R merchandise sell better, and he has to pay the bills of his lifestyle.

That forumale also shows (and backs up a long held thought of mine) how much creativity for new material was hurt with the departure of Izzy.

Totally.  Izzy's solo albums are proof of that... he's got some great material, and I have always found all the other ex-members solo projects a bit mediocre.     I think if Axl is missing anyone from the old lineup, its Izzy.    I'd love to see him collaborate with the guys in the band now some more (gnr or otherwise).. him and Richard are cool together on stage.

Yeah, Slash might have bitched and moaned about how difficult it was working with Izzy, but whatever Izzy was doing, it seemed to be pretty effective.

I agree it would be great to see the effect of input from Izzy on the existing and/or future material from GN'R I think he has a lot to offer.

Izzy didn't contribute too much after Lies. He wrote some (mostly basic) songs, then the others (Slash, Duff and Steven) had to work on these. On the other hand Izzy didn't work on the others' songs. So as much as I like the guy, he was the laziest member of GN'R.

I don't get why for some people its only about the album.   i accepted years ago, that this album will come out eventually but who knows when.. In the meantime, if these guys are doing other things and being active, thats a good thing.   Take it for what it is.

I like listening good music and releasing music is what makes a band a band. I can't be a fan of some guys' look or a brand name. If I wanna hear AFD again, I stick with the guys who wrote it.

I'm pretty sure he was joking.

The way the songs are being performed isn't much of a shock though. These guys are approaching 70. As mentioned in the thread already, the Stones are a shell of their former shelves. Keith strums a guitar while doing those poses he does while Mick talks the songs.

I saw them this summer and although I agree that Keith is the worst guitar player alive(? 16), Mick still can sing their songs.

I don't think these guys look at playing the old material as covers, they are playing GnR songs, its part of the gig... they knew this going into it.

I disagree. These guys were fed a ton of crap, especially during the first half of this wait. This wasn't supposed to be a nostalgia band.

Its not a complete nostalgia band.   They play 5-6 "new" songs per show, which if you look at the setlist for any other band with a long career, thats pretty normal.     These guys re-recorded AFD back in the late 90s, they knew what they were getting into.

They play 3-6 new songs/night, and although GN'R have been existing for more than 20 years, they don't have a long career since the band released only 3 full albums, 1 shorter and a cover album. That's not much.

On the other hand Axl asid multiple times back in the day of the 'comeback' that the new guys didn't want to play the old songs.

I don't think they are over but I think they will go on a bit of a hiatus for Scott to do STP, Slash to do his solo album, and for them all to get a break from each other as tensions seem high within the band.  I'd say they'll finish up touring in 2008 and break until middle of 2009 or so.. have another album out in 2010.

It's a possbile scenario, but I don't expect their third album before 2011.

I guess that Tommy and Robin has a lot to think about. It's something like Game Theory. You put a lot of effort, energy and creativity into this project. You have a chance to be well-known, well-respected and rich if it'll be successful. On the other hand there is a significant chance that it'll never get released or get released too late, and they'll lose everything they put into this project, and they'll be too old to have a career.

But... if they leave, they lose every chance to succeed with GN'R. When should you leave? When can you realize that it's over? Axl's been feeding them with his 'it'll come out soon' bullshit for years. I'm sure none of them believes in Axl's promises and plans anymore. (BTW it's a big problem in a band.) But as I see things and (probably) they see things Tommy and Robin realized that they still don't have better chance than GN'R, so they are waiting. As soon as something good pops up, they'll leave.

if they decided later, would you say they'd break up or stay together?

I don't know. It depends on the success of the solo albums, the possible STP reunion, Scott's drug problems, family things and what'll happen when they first meet after the hiatus.

I don't think so, and one could argue they don't have one with him either.

I think Slash should do his Santana album.  If VR didn't work long term, I can't see a band with Slash, Duff, Dave, Matt, and ANYBODY doing well unless Axl was the singer, and that isn't happening.  I think it would be in everybody's best interests to start over on their own.

Agreed. If VR's over, then they should go solo, and Slash's aim cannot be anything else than a Santana type album. A few years later Slash and Duff could reunite, maybe with Izzy and do an album and a tour.
