I’m calling it now, we’re never getting a new album. I hope I’m wrong though
That's pretty much business as usual for any band these days, isn't it? They're sending riffs that they've recorded in hotel rooms (well, completed CDII songs in Axl's case) amongst themselves, and they'll convene in a few months to record an album. They're sharing material, but no actual studio recording by the band has been done.
Well, I'm not sure if Slash would do that, but it's way easier today to record a really good and professional guitar track with nothing more than an audio interface and ProTools in a MacBook. And of course, he could always just grab his own stage gear and record stuff in-line in the soundcheck or whenever he wants.
Also Axl and Caram worked with the "reamp" technique in the Chinese Democracy days. So Slash could record a clean guitar track (even though his output could have a regular amp sound for reference) and send it to Axl.

a brilliant, mostly instrumental, rehearsal version of Chinese Democracy (the song) and a vague promise of "more to come".
I can't find this anywhere. Could someone help me out here?
Edit: got it, thanks.

Robin's work in Better, TWAT and Street of Dreams are outstanding and way above anything Richard ever wrote IMO. It's kinda crazy when I see you guys dismissing his lead work.
Finck was not a Classic Rock player. He would have been good for the industrial sounding songs.
Just because he played in NIN? He wasn't supposed to be just a Classic Rock lead guitar, but he provided the most bluesy moments both live and in the album.

Well, the GNR = Axl is irrelevant. Because what matters most is how he would release it now. I don't think the record company would be against the release as a solo project, they probably never had any faith on it anyways.
Interesting question but anything that resembles classic GNR would likely be off limits for said endeavor.
Good point. Then we would never get any ballads, which was half the CD.
But why not? Slash will release some hard rock stuff he worked on before rejoining the band. Axl could just save the tracks he thinks would work with current GNR members for a future proper release.

Would Universal be ok if Axl were willing to release everything he has as a solo project? Of course I know he is stubborn and that's very unlikely.

Yeah, that was just a soundcheck. But he did fuck up later and should have practiced harder.
I cant understand the appeal. I watched the twitter video once and thats it. I have zero interest on this thing.

well that Mendez' analysis is already quite old, but yeah still pretty much relevant.
about the Rock Band ChiDem, I'd like to clear out some confusion with the various releases, please correct me if I'm wrong.- there was complete ChiDem as playable tracks in Rock Band 2 (that means not complete tracks, just some instruments that could either be played or were used as backing tracks), those were later extracted and the isolated stems come from there
- Rock Band 2 also included Shackler's Revenge as a complete track
- Rock Band 4 later added the rest of the album as complete tracks, but it was pulled a few years agoor is the story different?
As far as I know, it's like Wagszilla said. But you could also buy the same tracks to use in Rock Band 3 and 4. So they are the same thing.

The Chicken Dinner leak mix sounds fan-made to me.
Mendez here seems like that one is legit http://www.mygnrforum.com/topic/217072- … nt=4306991
other guy told me he wasn't really sure. so take it as it is
Excellent work there.
I might add that The Blues leak from 2006 had some different stuff too. It still had some additional drums in the intro and 1st verse. Also, Robin's arpeggio was louder in the mix in the chorus (is it a chorus? the part where he sings "I dont know just what I should do.. "). Obviously, Axl's lyrics at the ending were also different from the album version ("What I tell ya.. just one more failure").
The Rock Band versions of Chinese Democracy and Riad didnt have the synth/stolen sample intro. But the mix is very different because of just how the game deals with the tracks, so Bumblefoot's rhythm guitar in Scraped is obviously louder.
IMO, the thing I dislike in the album is how the mix used Bumblefoot rhythm guitar over the other 4 original guitar layers (assuming Richard recorded some overdubs too in some songs where he's not credited). I mean, I like his work, but its just too prominent - Riad had some great stratocaster-ish rhythm guitar by Robin that got too low in the mix. And of course, the bass is too buried in the mix for all the songs, but specially on Street of Dreams and TWAT.
I could talk about those little details for hours. The Blues last leak was superb in the minor details missing on the album version.
