#301 Re: Guns N' Roses » Favorite Gnr Song From Each Album » 660 weeks ago

Least favourites:

AFD - Think About You

Lies - Nice Boys, probably, but none of the songs are bad

UYI I - You Ain't The First

UYI II - Shotgun Blues or that horrible KOHD version

TSI? - You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory (it's even worse than Since I Don't Have You and New Rose)

CD - Prostitute

I actually think the opposite. A "volatile-pissed-off-at-Slash" Axl on the same stage as Slash, would make for an electrifying performance.

Let's face it, some of Axl's more memorable and passionate performances have been when he's been REALLY pissed off, and GN'R's music at it's core is very much an angry, fuck-you attitude.

I think there is a difference between the "GN'R against the world" and the "GN'R members against me, poor Axl" attitude. The first could result a great Axl performance, the second would blow up the reunion.

Hypothetical question:

If Axl could sing like he used to. Let's say 2006 or 2010 SO GOOD on it's best day, like 1993 picking up where it left off...

Would you still not want the reunion?

They'd need to bury the hatchet first, and go through months of psychological treatment to sort out the shit. A disastrous reunion would be a nightmare.

Changes for me over the years. Right now I'd go with:

AFD: Nightrain.  (Honourable Mentions: Brownstone, Jungle, Paradise City)

Lies: You're Crazy

UYI1: The Garden. (Honourable Mentions: November Rain, Coma, Perfect Crime)

UYI2: You Could be Mine (Honourable Mentions: Locomotive, Civil War)

TSI: Hair of the Dog (Honourable Mentions: Down on the Farm, Black Leather, Since I don't Have You, Aint it Fun)

Chinese Democracy: There Was a Time (Honourable Mentions: If The World, Madagascar, Scrapped)

Never been a fav of The Garden

Me either. It's not a bad song; but I could never get into it even with Alice doing vocals.

I would pick The Garden (or DTJ) from UYI I, if Coma weren't there. The Garden is amazing, one of the trippiest songs they've ever recorded. Axl is amazing, the chord progression is amazing and the solos are among Slash's best work to date.

Replace SCOM with Rocket Queen, and there goes my list.

The answer is the same for Axl's artistic fall, his Slash-hatred and his amazing talent - he's bat shit crazy.

Unfortunately while being a lunatic made him an attracting and productive genius, in the past 20 years this ruined all that was built up earlier.

#307 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR according to The Manual » 661 weeks ago

Sorry, but I don't believe that even the long time dead John  Lennon can be more productive in the 2000s than Axl. If he wanted to release music, he could have done it.

1, I'm not sure about Uni forcing the reunion so badly that they wouldn't release something _already recorded_ that would still sell relatively well (compared to other artists). No further invest, big income = ideal deal for them.

2, Axl could play a shitload of unheard songs live. Would it spread through the Internet? Yes, it would. But only those would listen, who actually care and would buy the album anyway.

3, Axl could release any shit he wants under his name. He wouldn't need to promote it, wouldn't need to tour behind it (he could go on with his nostalgia cash grab).

4, Axl could release it through the Internet, or like some fake "leak".

An artist wants to create and does create. An artist, if not a crazy recluse would release it in some form. Axl was anything but a recluse in the past years with his tribute world tours. An artist, especially with the amount of money Axl has, wouldn't be so worried about the financial aspect. He would care about the artistic aspect though. Axl seems to care too much about the financial issues (making, relasing new music is expensive and risky, while nostalgia tours make a lot of money). The nostalgia tours of the past years are more of a prostituation of himself than any real reunion could be.

Face the facts.

1, Axl has been touring the old hits for years.

2, Axl hasn't put soul, work, anything into it. It's the same shit every night with a new 40-year old cover popping up every second year.

3, The bandmembers look like cheap copies of the old band. Even the shows are promoted with nostalgia artwork. They hire strippers, for God's sake. They "revisit" The Ritz.

4, No work on new material since 2006. Officially.

1+2+3+4= he has no motivation to do anything new and artistic in the foreseeable future.

Also, monkey, take into consideration that as Axl's mind and music taste changed in the past, it could have changed again. Maybe he doesn't care anymore about that industrial stuff they recorded more than a decade ago. Maybe he's more interested in revisiting his youth and wants to make a classic rock album with DJ and Fortus.

It's a little different for Axl...but at some point it gets surprising to me that he doesn't just prostitute himself like his song says....i'm not saying he should...just that I think normal people eventually would....

He has already prostituted himself with his tribute show. He's doing the same routine every night for years, in the same order with no soul and motivation. He's not picky at all, does it for anyone who pays enough, but has one guy he hates and doesn't wanna do anything with him.

^ yeah...it's probably not just the pay day either...artistically GNR was some of Slash's most famous, iconic and world changing performances....while I enjoy VR....it's not quite on the same level in terms of impact to culture and music history and creative genius as GNR either....

I mean....you give Axl your riff and you get a paradise city or sweet child of mine, you give a riff to scott and you get Big Machine or Falling to Pieces....

If there's humble pie and bullshit involved with either of them....even aside from the payday angle....I know where I'd be going....

Exactly. Some fans have this habit connecting everything Slash does or would do to financial issues. C'mon, we are talking about a guy, who has just established himself as one of the strongest and most successful touring acts in the rock business, almost from scratch. (If anyone says that he was in a good position after the Libertad fail, then I will give negative karma for utter stupidity.) Since he has a proper band around him and he's happy with them, he has radically lowered his guest appearances. I guess some hasn't realized this.

So back to Slash's motivations for a reunion.

First, Slash had some of his best and _happiest_ years of his career in GN'R. I think he would like to revisit that experience (except the junk, be it drugs or drama).

Second, he's a musician and knows that his best work was GN'R. Any musician with ambition would like to recreate (try to recreate) that wonder.

Third, he's a human being. The on-going feud surely hurts him on an emotional level. Not on a daily basis, I'm sure, but he'd much happier with closing those times, those lost friendships in a cilized way. And their common language was music.

Fourth, financial issues.

Isn't it ridiculous that we are talking about our wishes how a 50 years old musician can become professional, or at least semi-professional?
