I'm not saying the guy will be amazing.  But as a Republican, the Rockefeller kind, I'm optimistic that we have a Republican control of all branches of government.  I didn't want to go down this road, I wanted people to work across the aisle.  I appreciated the professionalism that used to exist in politics.  Sure, there are a million examples of heated exchanges, but at the end of the day Democrat or Republican, you shook hands and knew the other guy was still fighting for the best interest of America.  Booker is going to testify against Sessions?  Are you kidding me?  What can he possibly add to the debate other than getting his name out there.  The DNC is about to elect a member of the Nation of Islam who repeatedly defended Farakhan in the 90s, but Session is the racist because he allegedly called a black intern a "boy."  I didn't watch the confirmation hearing as I was at work all day, but from media reports on both sides it seems to have been rather professional.  Asking him if he plans to support the law of the land regardless of his opinion is a valid question.  Asking if he'll go after Clinton is a valid question.  Booker getting press to boost his image and profile for a 2020 run isn't.

Obama isn't a horrible person.  I rather like him on a personal level. He's incredibly intelligent and approachable.  But I don't believe his first priority was always what's right or what's best for America.  I'm in no uncertain terms saying he wanted to harm America.  But I believe he's made some decisions that have or will harm America in the long term.  His handling of the Middle East, Russia, China and his Dream Act nonsense are the biggest.  But don't think for a minute his approval ratings are based solely on his performance.  He was obviously popular, but he's taken a back seat the past 10 months while Clinton and Trump went nuclear on each other.  W is a hell of a lot more popular now than he was in January 2009.  Being out of the spotlight tends to have that effect. 

Trump isn't even in office yet, but look what impact he's had on the GOP.  HE stopped them from fucking with the OCE.  HE stopped them from just repealing Obamacare and now Ryan has agreed to replace and repeal at the same time.  That's smart.  He wants to keep the pre-existing condition requirements.  He doesn't want to kick the 20 million people who use the exchange.  And while no exact plan is in front of us, he also wants to open competition across state lines, something for the life of me I can't understand why the Democrats oppose. 

All I'm saying is that he's in a position to do great good for this country.  The Bernie crowd was never going to be happy with Hillary.  She was always a moderate and policy wonk, and with the GOP controlling both houses, she would have worked with them to get legislation through that Bernie types would have decried as treason.  She was never even going to attempt to get a $15 minimum wage or free college for all.  It's not going to happen, ever.

So maybe the Republicans get through some much needed reform to our tax code.  Maybe they tighten up the immigration system so we don't have illegals jamming up our public school systems and draining out tax dollars.  Maybe we can work with democrats to fix education in this country.  Everyone wants to talk about how Europe has free education, but they always leave out the part about how in Europe if you're stupid or need 4 assistants to complete a basic math test, you're not in the same class room or even studying the same material as everyone else.  University should be for intelligent people who have proven they're willing to crack open a book and are able to translate that to paper.  We need people in STEM fields, not more sociology majors who leave college 100k in debt and can only find a 25k a year job. 

I see this as an overall net positive.  Now the left will be forced to argue their points and opinions rather than just decreeing it so.  Being the minority forces you to take a step back and really think about what you're going to say, since you have to convince the majority of your opinion.  If the GOP fucks up and goes down the tea party/Jesus path (which with Ryan and Trump, I don't think so), they'll get hammered in 2018 and Trump will be remembered as the great American gaffe by January 2021.
