I have to agree. I'm not sure Slash has a great solo in him anymore.

This is what Axl means about political:

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need

Judging by this Iron Maiden would be considered left wing activists and they used their music to push that message.

Getting a reworked OMG in place of a new song would of course be a disappointment, but the idea is not bad in itself. The vocals are killer and with a little Slash and Duff it could become a pretty good song.

There is no alternative timeline where Kasich gets the nomination. 16

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Quicksong.

Berlin 51 doesn't have any special significance that I know of. I don't think any important historical events are connected to that year. It would have to refer to something more personal.

To me it suggest authenticity because why would anyone make that up? Atlas Shrugged as a title also feels from left field in that regard. The track list too has a good mix of expected and weird.

They did Silkworms which would probably fall even more so in that category.

When Axl debuted his new band in 2001 he played 6 new songs. Except for Oh My God all of them are on the "Exhibit B" page. Surely most of those songs would come from the A list. Vast majority of CD is on that list.

Curious questions would be why songs like IRS, Hard Skool, The General and Oklahoma are not on the list.

I agree with a lot of this, especially regarding Absurd.

Classic GN'R was modulation per excellence. They would always get a basic structure down, then do something different at the end of the song to wrap it up with variation. This is sorely missing from most of the CD songs. They tend to go nowhere. At times Axl hasn't even bothered to write a second verse. It suggests he was struggling with creativity, and his complete lack of new material for 20 years seem to confirm that notion.

The songs that do have this tend to have other problems. Better for example has a great outro and a very good verse, but the chorus and the bridge are a mess. The first half of TWAT is passable but not really great.

In Perhaps the saving graces for me are the piano and synths, and actually the little additions from Axl do help it also. Otherwise the song feels aimless with no punch to it. Slash is a major disappointment, definitely phoning it in here. I don't get any impression from Duff at all.

I think the reception is mostly down to the money put down on marketing. The youtube comments are a stark difference from Hard Skool. On the latter it was dominant approval, on Perhaps I sense about 50% of the reactions are "this is shit".

Legit or not that's a great cover.
