Just saw this statistic....
“After the 2016 Not in This Lifetime... Tour reunion tour (during which most songs from the album were played), Billboard reported the album's digital streams jumped from 8 million streams to 24 million, as well as 7,900 additional copies sold”
Those streaming statistics are impressive for an album no one truly cares about anymore. It shows some people are curious about the CD songs they are performing.
That top hat’s a draw, brother.
And the reason TIL is so high up is it’s played on and off since NITL and at its core is just a GNR ballad with a guitar solo. It’s basically what it November was extra sad and boring but it doesn’t have a sound that’s weird for GNR whereas the rest kind of do to casual fans.
They soundchecked both Absurd and Hardschool tonight FYI so all eyes on the band again tonight

Anyway! Another date tonight, wonder if they'll wheel out Hardschool.
They finally crossed the rubicon and played a "new" and never before released song for the first time since the reunion began, so at this stage anything is possible.
Seen some folk hoping to hear something new that isn't Hardschool but to be honest until we see a setlist emerge with other alts then I really doubt it. Not sure they've played any song since the reunion that didn't have a video graphic associated with it so any performance seems premeditated typically.

My take on what's on CD II, the next album:
1 - "HardSkool"
2 - "Atlas"
3 - "Grace"
4 - "Elvis"
5 - "Cuban"
6 - "Perhaps"
7 - "7"
8 - "Wichita Lineman" [Glen Campbell song]
9 - "The Seeker" [The Who song]
10 - "Bennie & The Jets" [Elton John song]
11 - "Black Hole Sun" [Soundgarden song]
12 - "General""
13 - "Absurd!"
14 - "Light My Fire (Monstrosity)"
I'd be shocked if four covers were on any new album. I'd expect it to be all originals unless they are going balls to the wall unload everything, do two albums like they did when UYI I & II came out.
Also all of those covers would require new vocals by Axl... I'd expect the vocals he recorded in the 90s and 00s.

I keep thinking about the state of Shacklers in 2000, where it’s basically two idea parts of a song looped. One part eventually is reworked and becomes the basis for the verse and the other part becomes the screechy intro. The rest of the song we got in 2008 nowhere to be heard.
Some songs in those village sessions are genuinely finished songs ready for a final mix and master. Others like State of Grace are maybe at the demo stage. Others are just half baked ideas for parts of songs looped over and over.
Shacklers only apparently got vocals in that 06-08 period and by then became a real song.
Then I look at those village sessions, how many tracks are just rough ideas of songs looped over and over and how many are instrumentals just waiting for vocals. I think he has a lot more in the can than we ever gave him credit for and I’m excited that we might finally get to hear it all in some state.
If Silkworms can come back, anything can. We all shit on things like Nothing, Thyme and Billionaire when in reality we know nothing about that’s those became.

With the low bar sales wise these days they probably get No.1 on the first week that album releases. Look at what happens when a Metallica or Maiden put a new album out. They usually bag No.1 spot for at least one week.
Announcement day is a free good press day
Any single releases are a free good press day
Pre release review week is hopefully a free good press day with the top hat guy in tow
Release day is a free good press day
Then hitting No.1 shortly after is a free good press day.
All of which is great promo for the tours going into the next few years.
Then further down the line you have a UYI boxset, that’s extra fuel.
Then at that point if you haven’t done it already you can do a CD boxset/this new abums’s deluxe edition (helps if the new album got a good reception)
After that you can do live era 2, concert dvds etc.
There’s a chance here, probably the last one the redhead’s ever going to get for this.

This is getting shit tons of media attention...
RS
NME
Billboard
Kerrang
iHeartRadio
GuitarWorldList goes on......
Crazy how everyone starts paying attention when new things get unveiled.
And the press is either neutral or positive.
Clearly the press are ready to give whatever they put out a fair shake, they should capitalise on this buzz and get Hardschool and Absurd out the door as singles plus announce a fall time window for a new record.

Pretty sure the press panned this song in 01 and now it's getting praised as having "mind-blowing riffs" and as "a frenetic slice of hard rock"
Amazing what difference a top hat makes

Death had to stop them.
Apparently with another album almost in the can. Sadly held up now in legal disputes.

I think they all recognise IRS may be too much of an ask for Axl.
Vocally those CD songs are some of the most challenging he's ever recorded to do in a live environment and IRS with that long scream is up there. It's why I think The Blues/SoD hasn't featured despite it having an old school GN'R ballad feel.

James wrote:but the fact is, you get one shot at the GN'R reunion album.
This is a great point.
It could make or break the whole thing.
It's why I wish they'd go big or go home....shock the world with a double like they should've done with CD.
I honestly think once they've done the Great Big Reunion Album, Axl will get a lot more experimental with releases. Recording new tracks in an afternoon and popping up them up individually, like Lana Del Rey does. Just going, "oh hey you guys, I did an album, here it is," like Ariana Grande does. Going, fuck it, let's do an album of Bee Gees covers for the lols, like Dave Grohl does.
Hell, he's kind of done that sort of random shit already, like making his first studio recording a couple of unannounced Sebastian Bach guest spots, or just randomly doing Scooby-Doo for the hell of it.
The trouble is, the weight of expectation on The First New Guns N' Roses Release Featuring Slash And Axl Since 1995 is smothering. Everyone will have an opinion on how to release it; Axl, the band, Axl's management, Slash's management, the record company, the record company's marketing people, etc etc.
Once they've cleared that out of the pipes, I think new material will flow much more freely.
See, I'm optimistic we eventually get this reunion album. I even think there's a decent chance they clear the decks with CD and get a double album released in the same way Illusions was.
There is nothing that suggests the music flows more freely from Axl after that though. Not one hint of that.
