This is spot on. A culture of entitlements and excuses is the cause of all of this. Rather than remain self-reliant, people live beyond their means and expect a quality of life they have not earned. People have families they can't afford to raise and the masses are expected to remain silent and not judge the poor decisions and life choices of others.
Democrats want to create socialized medicine so that every person can receive medical care. But medical care is exspensive, limited and timely. It is a skill earned by a few through years of personal exspense and work. This program single handely epitomizes the self-entitlement view of lazy Americans willing to spend the money of others but not their own.
Republicans wish to enforce draconian standards on moral codes they deem appropriate. Never mind the cost of housing and feeding people in prison for years for "crimes" that harmed no one but the individual.
The world is cruel, harsh and brutish. No one is guarunteed a good life and the means to survive as long as man or machine can sustain them. These luxuries come at a cost that is earned from skilled labor and situation.
Not to come across as a Malthusian, but we don't want or need every person born to stay alive forever. The moral relativism and "me, me, me" attitudes of millions of youth and societal failures are what are destorying this nation. Buchanan hit it right on the nail with this. Only when people rely on themselves and don't expect society or "the government" to take care of them will we fully rise to greatness again. As Pat said, this started with the baby boomer generation and came to fruition during Vietnam. Now those beliefs have been passed on to a second generation of people who again have no concept of altruism or self-sacrifice.

It would be cool if Bucket rejoined, but I think that would be a hell of an insult to BF to cut him.

I understand your busy and I hope you're well, but the title of the thread linked was "McCain destroying Obama in latest Gallup Poll "??!!
How is that NOT saying McCain blowing away Obama. It's almost verbatim.
Anyway, I know what you're saying about state polls mattering more than National. But keep in mind McCain led in almost EVERY national poll for the last 2 weeks. Now he isn't, and with the events I mentioned it's pretty safe to assume it is an across the board issue in every state that's taken over (economy) and no certain states would extremely be influenced by it, like you stated about NY & CA TX. In fact, since it's the economy that is giving Obama momentum it would be pretty logical to think that especially Mich & Ohio would be states where he is getting a boost. States affected by the economy.
As I said where there's smoke there's fire.
Last polls I saw show that most Americans trust McCain on the Economy more than Obama. So if it's an Economy issue, why would Obama take a lead. The people of Ohio and Michigan are the blue collar, gun owning types that Obama is the weakest with. Clinton won all but 5 counties against Obama for just that very reason. Right or wrong, Obama is viewed as a leftist elitist, and the blue collar workers of MI, PA and OH aren't as receptive to him as they are Clinton - they are the very voters that will make or break him.
I could be wrong about the economy poll, but I could have sworn I read that more voters trust McCain with the economy than Obama.

I get what you're saying and I'm not going to dwell on the point, but it say destroying Obama in latest gallup poll. Which quite frankly was true. Just as it would be true to say Obama is destroying McCain in CA or NY or a poll that shows him with a significant lead.
This thing is far from over as almost everyone has said. The debates will have an impact. But in my opinion, Obama will lose when it comes time to specify an issue or stance on the spot. Obama is a fantastic speaker when he is prepared and when he controls the flow. But as we've seen, when put in a hot seat, he doesn't have that magic spark as when he's in a room full of roaring supporters. That's one of the few valid complaints against Obama from the start, his vagueness. And when he is questioned about his policy and responds with the hope and change mantra, the moderator nods and asks "What does that all mean?" , Obama may be found wanting. You may not like McCain's answers, but at least he explains how he's going to accomplish his goals. The recent analysis on both candidates health care policies highlight just that point. But in summation, those expecting the great speeches and highlights from his rallies to exist in the debates are probably going to be disapointed.

I'm writing policy memorandums so I don't want to get distracted, but the posts you linked to are not remotely the same as your claim. The posts you linked state that McCain got a bounce from the convention. Then a bunch of posters saying the debates are what's going to decide this. Nothing about McCain blowing away Obama as you suggest. None the less, I'm not responsible for what other posters say with regard to Obama's obvious drop in the polls.
You're right, the most recent NATIONAL polls have Obama leading around 2%. But as stated earlier, national polls mean absolutely nothing. If everyone in New York and California and Texas voted for Obama, that'd be a huge portion of the population (I'd assume nearly half) but would only constitute less than 1/4 of the overall electoral vote. Obama can win the national vote all day long, but as long as McCain can pull in the electorals, he's the winner.
That is what I meant by objectivity. Pointing to national polls and ignoring the battleground state polls isn't being objective and it certainly isn't being realistic. It's grasping for straws to show support for your side. Obama supporters aren't the only ones guilty of this, but it just so happens to be them in the current situation.

The CNN Poll is the only poll that shows an increase though. Look at the Ohio section on realclearpolitics. Several polls were released over the exact same time frame and all but the CNN one showed McCain ahead. I'm not calling it one way or the other, but to assume Palin's interview affected anyone but the die-hard Obama (or Palin) supporters is foolish. She said nothing that would offend the indies or what wasn't already known about her. Just because she gave an interview that reinforces your disdain for her doesn't mean that it has an affect on the moderates that span both parites.
I get it, people who support McCain or Obama look for the smallest article or single poll to justify their belief(s). But if you think one interview of the Vice-Presidential candidate is going to swing 5-6% of voters to Obama, your deluding yourself.
The point I was trying to emphasize in my post was that one single poll from one source doesn't equate change. It means diddly squat, escpecially when it's in the margin of error. That is certainly the case with the current CNN poll. Now if similar pollsters report the same result over the next few days, then there is definitely a swing and we can of course debate the reason. But one CNN poll doesn't mean the voters are running for Obama. Specifically when 6 polls (one of the a Democratic poll) covering the same time frame came to a different conclusion (all for McCain) http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls … a-400.html
All I'm saying is people should be objective and not cream their pants when one poll says their candidate is winning. I don't want Obama to be my President, but that doesn't prevent me from recognizing when he is doing well and McCain is doing poorly. Furthermore, national polls mean shit as the electoral vote is what matters. And looking at the battleground states, as of now, McCain is in the better position as Obama's lead in his states has dropped the past few days and its dead even in the latest PA poll (the first time ever). I'm not saying Obama will lose PA (though if he does the election is over), but looking at it objectively, McCain is definitely in the better postion at this moment in time. This can all of course change in a matter of days and we still have two months left. However, the close we get to the election, the more solidified voters will be in their choice and the harder it will be for the candidates to sway them. Simply put, Obama has lost alot of support in the key states the past couple weeks. If he doesn't rebound and McCain takes MI or PA from Obama, the race is over. People love to be in the popular column and if the media starts reporting McCain is taking states from Obama, alot of "indies" will jump to the winning team. The same can be said if Obama makes a massive gain in Ohio or Florida.
Objectivity is all I ask for. You can be a cheerleader for your side, but at least have the foresight to look at the election objectively rather than through wishful glasses.
#4149 Re: Guns N' Roses » IGN reviews "Shackler's Revenge" » 921 weeks ago
I have to agree. I ask myself would I dig this song if Axl hadn't written it and the answer is undeniably no. You can make yourself like any song after enough listens. In this regard, this is Shackler's greatest assesst in this medium. It's on a video game where the user will more than likely have to play it several times before mastering it and thus have the tune in their head. I know that I have had the same response to songs on the other guitar hero/ rock band games. So if promotion is done right and the youth relate this song to a new album, CDs success could be huge.
If the author is right and this song is going to be accepted by the masses, than its selection in the game was genius. A song that gets in your head and is enjoyed by the majority of the public is the greatest marketing ploy they could use. Generate interest in the band and album through a catchy (albeit weak) song and allow the consumer to be blown away by the great tracks on CD.
So as a GN'R fan I find this song pretty weak, but if it attracts new fans to the underlying greatness of the original leaks and unheard tracks, I'm all for it.

Some polls are just garbage and have no historical accuracy. The two polls I follow are Survey USA and Rasmussen. All through out the primaries, these two were spot on in their predictions. Gallup and Zogby are total garbage (compare their predictions during the primary) and I wouldn't whipe my ass with the paper they're printed on. I also stay away from any partisan polls, although if a Partisan poll shows their candidate behind, I tend to give it a lil more thought.
All the recent polls show McCain with a healthy lead in Florida and Ohio. Obama supporters thinking Obama has a chance to win in Indiana and Florida are just kidding themselves. While Obama has a great shot at taking Ohio, it is is still in McCain's court and with Obama's recent demise in PA and MI, him pulling out Ohio seems even less likely if that trend continues.
People shouldn't assume the tides have turned when one orginization releases a single poll showing something different than everyone else. That is why I goto realclearpolitics.com and compare all recent poll data.
Although I strongly believe that Obama is going to get spanked in the debates. Obama excels in stadiums where he can deliver feel good speeches with vague promises for change. When cornered on exact policy proposal, he faulters. That's what the debates are about and the Obama cheerleading section will be absent.
