Mikka, they are all full of shit. I don't know why it bothers you so much ..still....at this point. I am so over analyzing what they say or supposedly said. I honestly don't care and can't understand why others do after all these years.

You are right, that they are lying time to time, or giving shady interpratations. But. I'm sure that the online fanbase only made it worse, since even the lies got spinned.

Although I sometimes get very emotional about this nonsense, it's more of a hobby for me, to see it (past and present) as clear as I can.

Doesn't that completely go against Axl saying that Slash's songs were brought in complete, including lyrics, and that Axl wasn't allowed to change anything... 10

I think it's the most common factoid across the boards. I did correct it multiple times, but some people (mostly the pro-Axl anti-Slash tribe) refrained it again and again.

Here is the truth. Axl said that Slash told him "just shut up and sing", in which he was referring to Slash not being open for any changes in the music. But Slash hardly ever wrote any lyrics before, so it's nonsense that he wrote a full album alone. When he and Axl disagreed, he took the songs and got Eric Dover to write lyrics together. Since at least half of the album is about Axl, I just cannot imagine Slash handling the anti-Axl songs to Axl and ordering him to sing it. Just can't. But people are dumb and hateful and they liked to play the "poor Axl, dictator Slash" card as often as they could, and this was their only "fact" to build their arguments on.

Wonder how many other quotes got spinned and exaggerated over the years.

I think the surprise was meant to be the stage and set up as opposed to the set-list.

Wrong. They, Tommy and Dizzy talked about their unpredictable setlists and changing a lot, once again.

I'm not surprised they haven't done it. They likely met Axl 20 minutes before the show, and the boss said "same old". I don't think he spent too much time with practicing since Bridge School. After some gigs done Axl will be rehearsed and they'll probably have time and courage to change some.

Really cool pics! 9

No surprise in the setlist though. Even the order is the same.

To be fair he did say the next album would take less time, so I have 2018 as the over/under date.

Depends on how you see it. We don't know if he thinks CD took 17 years (from UYI), 12 years (Slash's departure), 10 years (first stable new line-up) or 2 years (most of the songs were written 1998-2000). Or anything else. So if it comes out no later than 2024, he'll be right. Also, it's not a promise, a lie or a gurantee. 16

Wasn't it about wether bandmembers were writing for GNR or not?

Maybe but as was pointed out, Slash, Duff and Matt wrote alot of stuff thinking it was for GNR and found out that it wasn't.

DJ & the guys are currently in the same boat and only when its on CDII and in Tower, will we know whether they actually were writing for GNR.

Correct.  He pretty much confirms that people are writing stuff.  We all figured they were...they are all musicians.  Most musicians write stuff.  Nothing he said indicates they were together writing stuff for GnR or anybody was writing with him for GnR.

Writing for GN'R and Axl liking it doesn't mean shit either. Axl liked some of Slash's songs, yet they didn't make an album together. Axl liked some of the stuff Finck/Tobias/BH/Tommy/Josh sent him, yet it took a decade to release 13 of them and most of the music they were working on was scrapped or still in the vault in quiestionable finished form. DJ's writing songs? Cool. Wake me up when there is a release date.

HOB was a warm-up, but technically you're right.

Just saying that Brain's story doesn't hold water. He did know how Axl would sound in Rio, cause they performed together 2 weeks earlier in Vegas. Axl's working ethic is another issue though.

As far as I know, House of Blues was the first gig of that band. RIR3 came two weeks after.

No he doesn't. This band are his friends. The old band aren't, not anymore. Why would he dump his friends to be tied to a bunch of people he doesn't like, and who don't like him?

I'm not so convinced about this "friendship". Axl hardly ever meets them, he doesn't rehearse, he only pops up at the shows, and the guys need to call Beta if they wanna figure out what the future holds. He texts them when he feels like, and answer their calls, when he feels like. Nobody's trying and nobody's able to do anything without him in Guns, so "he has their back". These guys are employees and they know where their place is. It's only about control - as long as Axl has it, he's happy, and he has full control of the band.

I'd lean toward it being real.

I was thinking about what they could do to make this tour different...without having to actually do any new material....and all I can come up with is deeper cuts from the back catalogue.

Obvious choices:

-Double Talking Jive (Easy to Sing when Axl's voice is burnt, and begging for a 3 tarist jam session at the end)
-Breakdown - not too hard to sing.
-Locomotive (just to take back all the slash songs wink )
- Coma (but it's hard to sing)
- Move to the City (cos it worked in the UYI days)
- Mamma Kin

Knowing his latest performances, Axl will die on stage if he tries to sing Locomotive or Coma. DTJ and Breakdown would sound ridiculous on the Mickey Mouse voice, too.

I've never understood why they didn't play the Axl songs off UYI. Fans would love to hear Yesterdays or Dead Horse, they are easy to play, easy to sing (well, you need some breath for DH), so they'd be obvious choices. Even Back Off Bitch, Right Next Door to Hell or Since I Don't Have You would be better than the same old.
