Solution: Quit giving tax cuts to the rich and large corporations.  Start ending the massively expensive war.  I think that should just about pay for it...  and then some.

The war isn't massively exspensive, this 3 trillion dollar figure is bullshit.  We've spen 600 Billion on the war over 5 years, a large sum yes, but not nearly as large a sum as socialized medicine would be.  Not to mention, when we do need to fight another war, we'll have to add its cost on top of the outrageous cost of providing health care to those who either refuse to pay for it, fill out paperwork to get it, or are 40 and work a McDonalds type job but expect the same lifestyle as someone who possesses an actual skill.  The figures speak for themselves on health care.  Most Americans have access to care if they choose.  Only 1% don't have any access to care.  Even with your golden boy Obama's most optimistic interpretation of his plan, 5% will still be uninsured.

The answer to taxation is a flat tax so all people pay taxes proportionate to their income.  We also need to end tax credits to the people who use the most resources.

Bri, I wish you and your family the best.  Hopefully you have family or friends to hold you up until you get a place.

James, I don't mention McCain because he states that he will cut spending and end the runaway budget.  Neither Hillary or Obama make that claim.  They simply state they will tax the wealthy, which may have even worse consequences.  I don't mention McCain because you've already stated that the economy would be in more ruins under him.  My question is how would the Democratic nominee rectify it?

In case you forgot, there were recessions in the 80s and 90s that followed minimum wage increases.  There is also always an increase in unemployment.  You bitch because teh cost of groceries have gone up.  Small businesses, which make up the majority of all businesses, feel the same burden when they are forced to increase their wages.  Just as I'm sure you cut things out of your budget, employers have to cut their's as well.  I'm not blaming the economy on an increase in minimum wage alone, but it is definitely a considerable factor.  If government spending and debt didn't continue unabated, inflation would cease and there'd be no reason to raise the minimum wage.  Unfortunately, with both Hillary and Barack both wanting to create the largest and most costliest social program ever, inflation will continue.

And on a further note, it was warned that this would happen when the Democrats increased the minimum wage.  Something no one wants to mention.

Again, I don't know your personal situation.  Mortgages are based on more than just credit.  In all honesty I shop at the comissary where a box of brand name cereal is only $2.25 and there is no taxes.  However, the important question is how will Hillary or Obama correct it?  More importantly, is Bush or Congress responsible for the "poor" economy?  Finally, why would we want candidates in Office who promise to spend more and increase are already record budget?  Taxing the wealthy won't do anything to drive prices down, in fact it would have the opposite affect as any economist would tell you.

#4285 Re: The Garden » 2008 Presidential Poll Thread » 947 weeks ago

I'm not arguing that it is way too early to make any assessment.  My point was to refute the notion (that you apparently hold) that the election is a slam dunk for Obama.  If we can throw out any poll we want because we don't like it, I can do the same thing.  Even without the Rameussen poll, Obama's lead is only within a point or two, well within the Margin of Error.  My point is this, the fanaticism and assertion by some that Obama will undoubtedly take the election, is naieve and ill-informed.  I'm not stating that Obama can't/won't win, just that it's not a sure thing and McCain is anything but out.

#4286 Re: The Garden » 2008 Presidential Poll Thread » 947 weeks ago

I wasn't aware that Ramussen was a biased company.  There is another poll on the site that shows McCain leading as well.  Again, the more people polled, the more accurate it is.  Other than you asserting Obama will win Ohio, why do you think so.  I'm from Ohio and can tell you (as the primary showed) that Ohioans won't eat up Obama's message of hope and change, Ohioans need actual promises and look to your history - another reason Kerry lost Ohio in 04.

Find me another (recent) poll with 1700 people and I'll take into account your claim that ramuessen is biased.

Edit:

Is gallup biased too?  http://www.gallup.com/poll/105040/Gallu … ma-45.aspx   4500 voters in this one.

This really wouldn't suprise me if they found more poor souls who fell vicitm to Manson and his cult.  It's a damn shame California revoked its death penalty before they could deliver to coup de grace to Manson.

I agree that gas prices are getting out of control and need government intervention.  I'm by no means a socialist, but mandatory things to live on such as water, power and even the telephone/internet have government regulation.  A significant portion of gas prices is taxes that supposedly go to fund the interstate system, but the increasing gas prices are a burden everyone is feeling.  I'm tempted and will probably soon quit driving my truck all together and ride my Harley to base everyday.  I'd support a well thought out plan to control and regulate gas prices.  If the war in Iraq was fought over oil, I sure as shit haven't seen any benefit from it.

With regard to the economy, is anyone suffering as a result of it?  I personally don't know anyone but hear alot of people acknowlegde that they hear its bad, but have nothing person to reflect to.  Luckily my ass will be on a tax free tour to the middle east in several months and will be able to bank some money.  Unfortunately not everyone can do that.

The most recent polls have McCain leading Obama in the general election.  I've noticed this trend for a while now, the larger and more accurate polls seem to show McCain on top.  If McCain can win Ohio, and it's my prediction against Obama that he will, McCain will be our next President.

McCain 48% to Obama 42%.  His lead is identical against Clinton: http://rasmussenreports.com/public_cont … cking_poll

While it is much to early to claim any candidate has an advantage, I think this clearly takes the wind out of camps that claim the Democrats are a sure thing.

I'm skeptical of Metallica's new album.  I was a huge Metallica fan in high school, I even stayed with them through the Napster bullshit as I agree with their argument.  But Saint Anger was straight dog shit for me. I haven't enjoyed a Metallica Album since The Black Album and Master of Puppets is my favorite and their finest album IMO.  While I'll buy the new album when it comes out, I certainly don't have any expectations like I do for CD or the new VR album.
