Bri,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but 15k doesn't seem that much to me for the quality of care you recieved. An inconvience maybe, but obviously you prepared for a financial burden like this and have a job that allowed you to do well. I'd say you're pretty damn well off personally.

In America 99% have access to it. Whether or not they act on it is a different story.

IF we're worried about the Sun in a billion years, we deserve to be extinct. We should have Mars colonized within the next 250 years.

The average wait for care in Canada is 17 weeks. The US has a higher machine to patient ratio than any other country. If you have access to care, and the majority of American do, America has the best care in the world. With regard to our economy, I know of noone that is suffering now as a cause of a supposed rough economy. Our unemployment rate is among the lowest in the world and is lower than Canada's if I am correct. Simply put, more Canadians come to America for treatment than vice versa.
I agree, it's not a perfect world. People need to balance and weigh their options. Some jobs come with a higher personal and family costs, but provide better financially. This is the case everywhere and unless we adopt a Rawlsian mindset, that's not going to change.

I have no interest in making personal attacks and if my post was received as such, I apologize. However, if someone uses a personal story as center piece of their argument, it is logical and reasonable to use that same story in a counter argument. If I ever reference my military service as a center piece in an argument, feel free to call me a brainwashed baby killer or elitist officer

Look, I'll debate with you if you like, but not if you're gonna be an asshole and say I've made poor choices in my life. Fuck you.
I don't think he meant it to sound as personal as it did. A republican talking point is if you disagree with any of their agenda, you are a drug addict on welfare.
Having said, Flagg should try and keep anything resembling a personal attack out of debates.
Bullshit, I meant it exactly how it came out. If you don't have health coverage in America it is because you choose not to. If someone can't afford to have kids, they shouldn't have kids and expect someone else to pick up the tab. The latter sentence is in no way directed at Bri, just a general statement. Responsible people/adults behave responsibly. Live within your means and stand by your decisions. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I'm not trying to be an asshole. You advocate a position that affects my wallet. I nor is anyone else responsible for the actions of others. I'm not telling you how to live your life; I would never be so arrogant or presumptious to assume I could tell you what best fits your time on Earth. What I will say is that the vast majority of Americans have health care from their employer, qualify for medicare/medicade or elect to not receive health care even though they make enough to afford it. Only 3 million people in America don't fall into the above categories - which constiitutes 1%. I refuse to change from having the best and most efficient care in the world to a mediocre system just because a very small minority can't receive care. If only 1% are without the option of care, I'd say we're doing pretty damn good.
I'll debate with anyone all day long; just don't run on the premise that I or anyone else owes you something because you intentionally make/made choices to put you in a bad postion. You can't get mad at me for making a personal example against your argument when you made a personal example for yours. Being that we have the best care in the world and Obama's plan still wouldn't eliminate the 1% w/o care, I fail to see a reason to support socialized medicine.
Socialized medicine is a can of worms you people don't want to open. If you let the govt play mommy and daddy to you, you're gonna get treated like a kid again and all your vices and unhealthy choices will be taxed to extreme portions or just outright outlawed. It's already happening with smoking bans and transfat bans and the govt doesn't even pay for the majority of people yet.

He's also in favor of repealing the Bush tax cuts, which were a big factor in the mess we are in today. You cant cut taxes so drastically yet increase spending to an insane level. It leads to disaster which we are now on the verge of dealing with.
Had Bush cut spending during his presidency(while keeping the tax cuts) things wouldn't be like they are now.
I agree with you on your assessment James, but Obama also presumably (no formal plan has been outlined) wants to increase or at minimum, restore tax levels to the middle class.

Ok, explain how he plans on doing those? I support a focus on emission change, but my plan probably differs from what Obama would implement. How does he want to improve education? Bush created the No Child Left Behind Act and supports school vouchers which would do much more for an increase in quality of eduation than the tenure that exists in problem schools.
health care reform is not needed. If you remove illegal aliens and those who can afford health care but choose not to pay for it, approx 3 million Americans are not insured. If you don't have healthcare it's because you work a job that requires no competiton and your employer does not have to offer benefits to keep good workers or you choose not to pay for it and spend your money elsewhere. Just because you choose to have children and work a job that doesn't provide you with the level of care you think you're entitled to doesn't mean I should have to pay for your poor choices in life. I'm sure there were a multitude of factors in the costs of your delivery; personal doctors, special treatment, etc. I personally know a family who had a premature child and Medicare paid for all the treatments. Regardless, Obama's plan doesn't cover everyone so it's a moot point. If you want the cost of healthcare to drop, allow the market forces to become involved and place a cap on the get rich quick lawsuits for everyone who feels they were wronged.

Would someone please tell me what Obama's message of change and hope really means? We're adults here, so let's have an adult conversation. Words with no actions behind them doesn't seem like a prudent formula to follow nor criteria to elect a leader. Where does Obama differ than Clinton and in what ways is it positive. Frankly I see a bunch of cheer leaders who can't articulate a valid reason for their rabid support of a man who frankly has no substantial accomplishments. If the world and America is in such the quagmire many would want us to believe, why would you want to put someone in office who can't provide examples of how he'll put us on the right path. Other than an unneeded healthcare reform, can anyone provide me with specifics in what Obama will do to change America for the better?
