#431 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash: GNR has not written any new music, everything completed is CD 2 » 238 weeks ago
In a way I like them getting the older stuff finished and out there.
Like 99-2009 Axl has a more dynamic voice in terms of the tones and range he can get than what we'd get now I think.
But fun to hear now as well mind you, but it's silly to just bin hundreds of almost finished song concepts some with really good parts for no real reason.
My only gripes: if they're taking old CD tracks and rebuilding everything but the drums and vocals - the first is that in some of the songs (Atlas) the whole song could use some extra parts so you might be forced to add drums - like that song needs and estranged style riff imo) - and the second is that I worry they rushed the recording sessions. Like what Slash/Richard play on the studio version of Absurd doesn't really capture how cool their solos were live...it feels like they just put something down one afternoon.
Anyways I can see why the revelation that they don't have a secret new album written last week ready to drop is depressing, but at the same time, there's still quite a lot of older material that can be given the slash/duff workover. So we can still look forward to something happening at least.

I was thinking a similar thing the other day. The earlier Slash and Myles stuff he really seemed to be keen to impress, i felt the last album was a lot more generic vocally - I put it down to rushing the album in a week on tour or whatever they did. Don't mean to be shitting on myles I do like him...but yeah...just it didn't seem to have the same X factor the early stuff had. I'm hoping this is a return to form. If not it might be time for something new.

Tommy Lee plays more interesting fills than Frank.
I love Tommy Lee.
I know he's not a technical dream theatre type drummer but he sure makes motley rock - there's something about his style and sound that's very entertaining.

Hopefully he recovers well FlashFood.
Scary times.
In my city we're about to end our lockdown, but I worry because my daughter is under 2 and so can't be vaccinated.

I agree.
I'm an afflick batman fan so when he dropped from the previous version of this project I was a bit down on it. But it really does look like it could be cool - a dark thriller Se7en type movie maybe?
Looks like it has some of the mood of burton, with the realism approach of nolan, and the angry batman approach of Snyder...def has potential.

Sometimes I miss the old days.
Where we could argue about stuff like if Russ was really becoming Jarmo.
If listening to U2 made you masculine or did adler know a better way.
If R0b1n's name was better than his apron.
If signing off every post with a / and then your name was pretentious or habitual.
Did our hero actually turn up late at night at some hermit's house? Is the new one better than the old?
True fandom is blackmailing the band and quoting from their pay checks. Or so it used to be.
Come on people. There's much better reasons to hate each other than all this political stuff

That's very sad, does kinda allude to cancer.
Thoughts are with him and his family.

Still adding and deleting layers in 2021. You can’t make this shit up.
The moment I thought something was wrong was when those DJ Ashba arrangements of the CD songs leaked.
It makes no sense that he would be doing that considering he joined in 2009 and the CD album was released in 2008.
Unless it was just hobby stuff for him - but then why those songs and not other stuff from the vault.
I mean 1999 - 2008 you can look at as a very exhausting process...but then even the release of the album didn't end the process it's a worry lol.
But I'm glad we're getting the left over tracks with Slash and Duff...but it does sound like the plan is they just mute the original bass/guitar lines and over dub slash - which is a shame cos songs like Atlas and so on would be awesome but need a rearrangement IMO.
But who knows maybe these were the "test" ones and the album will be the more intense stuff.

The whole idea of the HermanCainaward thing is abhorrent to me.
I think it's dangerous to dehumanise people we don't agree with.
If people are refusing precautions in a pandemic because they have lost faith in society, drug corporations, or the media, or they've been brainwashed or whatever....to me that's tragic rather than funny. It's a condemnation on us all that we were not able to reach these people in time and we allowed society to get this bad.
I get there's a certain irony to seeing the hubris meet fate - but it's real humans in real pain with real families. I think there's something really pathological about the whole idea of it.

I got more into the UYI t-shirts back in the day.
Here's some of the ones I had, (these pictures from the net not my versions but they seem to be the same as I recall)

Think i had some other ones too.
