#5231 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week? » 910 weeks ago
I think Sorry is an awesome song, I just think that if you really want total for lack of a better word, bubble gummish songs for mainstream release to get the attention of all types of ages, I think these songs are the ones. Not that they are bubble gum or sell out by any means, I just think they are the least complicated songs lets say.
I'm not trying to say I think Sorry is bad, just, from a Marketing point of view, me personally would not put that out there on the radio. Nor, as a radio programmer would I prefer to play that song over a few others. Just mho.
Hey, the ship has now sailed for me. I got the album and now have no expectations for anything in the future. Whatever happens, happens...
Me too. The albums good imho. I gave it an 8/10. Good enough. I do find the sales #'s pretty bad, and don't think they'll drastically improve. It's going to be a fairly low selling album, especially all things considered. Sales wise, it's just another album that came out in 2008, nothing extraordinary.
Alot of reasons, as have been posted. I don't care though, I have my copy. 1 copy of Chinese Democracy is the only stat tracking number I wanted. Finally got it!!

Songs that are as slow or slower that get played all the time?
That's very "metro" of you to point that out.

Weren't the 1st & 2nd qtr negative though?
Anyway, I was surprised also, because it never seems they "officially" announce it, usually you just hear 5 years later "Remember the recession of 08?" Kinda like huh, what??
Anyway, it's pretty obvious the economy is bad. & will be throughout 2009. So it's a matter of accepting it & hoping & waiting for it to end & take off again (crosses fingers)

CD has charted 4th in the US, behind Sasha Fierce, Taylor Swift, and Kanye.
254k which is lower than Contraband if I am not mistaken.
So it beat The Killers?? I'm a little surprised by that if it did.
Bono, I disagree & agree with DTJ. 'Sorry' is too slow to be be on the radio. It's got a great bridge, "You've got all the answers, You know everything, Why nobody asked you, 's a mystery to me" but aside from that, I don't veiw it as radio playable. It's too slow & almost goes nowhere.

I agree CD was probably 1st single because of the name. Honestly though I think CD & Better are pretty similar.
I agree citr or SOD should be the third single. Probably would have been best to not use CD & go straight Better, CITR, SOD.

Not very good. I still like the album, but sales figures are basically abysmal compared to what alot of us expected a few months & years ago. I wouldn't expect it to be given much as a 'gift' either.
The only thing that will boost sales is a big, catchy hit. I'm not sure SOD or TIL are it either. Radio stations hardly play new songs anymore, and they're not going to be giving this Gnr 3rd, or 4th chances either. Better is a great song, but if CD didn't cause the cd to fly off the shelves, neither will Better. It was said a while ago one of the few non-debut albums to really pcik up sales long after release was Kid Rock. Back with the crossover smash "Picture". And I think he did it again with this past summers hit (can't remember the name). Anyway, I'm not saying he's great, or his albums were better, but that's whats needed for smash hits. GnR doesn't have that. And after Christmas is the wintertime, a horrible time for album sales, the black hole basically. I can come pretty close to admitting that sales-wise, this albums going to go it's course & fade away. Not nearly reaching a 2 million mark. Not sure it'll reach 1 if it only sold 250K it's first week.

I came across this & found it interesting. Someone should do a followup with all of these people & haters.. I didn't watch it all yet, but the guy who laughs at him at 3:45 is classic. Looks like Stephen Baldwin giving him some assinine, cocky smirk.

Never liked 'em, but I'd say a tour seems like a bad idea. Very bad. They really need to put out a new album first to rejuvinate interest, otherwise, it's just Creed again. And they haven't been gone THAT long.
#5239 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » GILBY CLARKE At His Home Studio » 911 weeks ago
^ I agree on all fronts. He was in a very tough spot too, replacing an original member, who left for at the time somewhat undisclosed purposes. Also, as it turned out, Izzy was a huge part in the songwriting.
Gilbys talented, ashame he never worked with them much again. Myb would've been a good fit for VR too. I don't think Dave did much that Gilby couldn't have brought to the table.

Yeah I was watching parts of that & the Indy/Browns game.
Not for nothing, but what was up with that one call against Wash??? Where the offensive lineman fair caught the pooch kick by waving both hands, and the refs called it an "illegal signal"?? C'mon, give the guy a break. Lucky for him he caught the ball, let alone thought about a "proper" signal??
