I concur with everything GNRBABY's said so far. I'm an avid vinyl collector of both new and old material. I have a top shelf set up and I too experience skips throughout the CD vinyl.

I think Gilby's the man. I know he doesn't get a lot of love 'round these parts, but he's always been cool in my book. Thanks for posting.

#524 Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Limited Deluxe Box Set Coming Soon » 911 weeks ago

Geffen Records has set a December 15 UK release date for a limited deluxe box set edition of GUNS N' ROSES' new album, "Chinese Democracy". In addition to the full-length CD, the package includes a T-shirt, bandana, patch, belt buckle and key ring.

To order a copy from HMV, go to this location.

Early U.S. sales reports suggest that "Chinese Democracy", which was released through an exclusive deal with the Best Buy chain, might not be the blockbuster the industry had hoped for, according to The New York Times. Sales figures will not be available until next week, but early estimates put the first-week total at 300,000 copies (including a reported 25,000 downloads at iTunes on November 23 not counted towards the opening week for the Sunday release) — roughly 50,000 more than the opening number registered by "Contraband", the 2004 debut from VELVET REVOLVER, which features in its ranks Rose's former GUNS N' ROSES bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. KANYE WEST's new album, "808s and Heartbreak", will be No. 1 on next week's Billboard chart with a total that looks to be between 450,000 and 500,000.

Then we're all agreed. John 5 was the best thing to happen to Rob's music, post-White Zombie 5

I think the '90s and '00s have been carried by bands that were, for the most part, making music before either decade. Can I name a lot of great bands today? No. Do I hate all '90s music? No. Then, do I hate all of today's music? No. It's just about being open minded and fair at the same time. I see today's music getting a lot of flack, and maybe deservedly so, but my point was that not all of us into the '80s metal scene really appreciated where things took off to in the following decade. Of the bands you listed, I quite like Alice in Chains (and consider them a metal, not a grunge, band) and respect Pearl Jam. I wasn't calling anyone's specific opinion out and I'm not trying to specifically compare those two decades. It's just a reminder: someone always hates "today's" music, whether its the '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, et al.

Some of us found the grunge movement and the majority of '90s alt. rock to be disposable and forgettable. What's the good old days to some is just more of the same for the rest. I don't think music's taken a downward spiral necessarily. I think it's just sucked that bad for that much longer.

I still fail to see how Kanye West classifies as a hack or has any ties to the already passed "emo" trend.

GUNS N' ROSES keyboardist Dizzy Reed performed at the "Chinese Democracy" launch party (as part of the Glamnation Party) on November 22 at The Roxy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Reed performed a set of GUNS N' ROSES' classic tunes along with COVERHEADS, a local hard rock dream team which has become the Glamnation Party's resident band. The "Chinese Democracy" launch party also featured a GUNS N' ROSES tribute band called SKIN N' BONES.

Fan-filmed video footage of Dizzy Reed performing the GUNS N' ROSES classics "It's So Easy" and "Pretty Tied Up" in Buenos Aires can be viewed below (courtesy of "MantraCosmica").

Previous editions of the Glamnation Party in Buenos Aires have included appearances by Gilby Clarke, Eric Dover and L.A. GUNS, among others.
