It doesn't shock me at all. No surprise she didn't know what NAFTA was, I'll probably give her the benefit of the doubt on Africa though, I don't think she's THAT stupid (hope not), but I'd venture to guess she either misspoke or naively compared African countries to US states (infighting, wars or something). I don't think she actually thought there was a President of Africa, who knows though. The Katie Couric interview (and Gibson) were a bunch of softball questions that Republicans swept under the carpet as "gotcha politics". "What news magazines do you read?" Tough question, huh?? "Oh alot. you know.. All of them."
I saw a woman on CNN today who put it pretty well: "Just because McCain's campaign handled her pretty badly, they did, doesn't mean that she was qualified, she wasn't."

I'm going to (obviously) say.... no. For a few reasons:
A.) Good grief & good riddance. That woman's voice can crack rocks.
B.) She too extreme to the right, a stance the republicans themselves must be planning to do away with as a party. How can an individual suddenly move to the middle on social issues. Romney tried this with abortion (i think he went the other way) & it got exposed as just politics. Also, she has her state to worry about, and wasn't her "refund check" to Alaskans Socialism in itself?? Now that Oil is not currently $150/barrel I don't think they'll always be having that surplus.
and mostly
C.) The Election begins with the primary. It isn't just, "Hey, I'm running for President this year". And the first 2 states are Iowa & New Hampshire. 2 somewhat Independant states, then Michigan & Florida. When in direct competition with other likley candidates like Tim Pawlenty & Charlie Crist, I don't think she'd hold up. Then again, it's only Republicans voting, not Indy's, so myb they might vote for her. I doubt it though. I just feel the Republican Party would know she'd be unelectable in the general election, and push someone else.
In the end, I'll admit anything can happen. A horrible Obama Presidency could get Republicans licking their chops, but aren't there better, smarter, more qualified candidates. You never know though, but I'm pretty sure she was the worst & most unqualified VP pick in history, and there's a legacy that will go with that. But things can change in 4 years, so it's possible, just not probable imho,.

I glad he won, but let's hope he does a good job. He needs to.
Absolutely, because in the end, that's what it really comes down to. Good luck everybody, try to make the most out of your next 4 years. All the best!!

and with that, I'm glad the minimum voting age is 18.
You think they'll be more enlightened in a year? Age has some impact, yes, but man I know so many adults who know a lot less about local issues than I do, including my father, and it's frustrating that I don't have a voice because of my age. It's ok with me, I accept it as the law, but don't make the presumption that from 17-18 people become more fit for democracy.
Yeah, not trying to stereotype or generalize all teens in this way, (sucks you didn't get to vote in this one), but man, flag burning?? I've read some crazy smears about just about all 4 of the people on the tickets, but even I didn't read that one. Let alone believe it??
No, they voted today, they're all 18, im 17.
That scares me.

One thing I will say about Obama, I think it's reasonable to believe he will look at things from an all-around perspective than McCain would have. Primarily I'll say this because of their VP picks. not trying to turn it into a Palin bash fest, but the decision making of it all. Obama knew he lacked experience, and foreign policy, but who did he choose. joe Biden, who supplements him on both issues & strengthens the tickets & the future potential White House. What did McCain do, pander to the conservative base knowing he wasn't highly approved there. But a pick who adds nothing to the future of the White House, no advising, no specialty, nothing. I'm not talking about the pick, but the decision making makes me believe he wouldn't be the maverick/reach across party lines person he claimed he would have been. Also, hiring Karl Rove?? WTF?? Really?!
It's a drawback that the dems may control the house & 60 seats in the senate, but it goes back to failed policies & George Bush's incompetence as President. It's been a bad 8 years, would have been pretty hard for any Republican to compete much better in the final tally. But it's just a case of the pendulum swinging back to the other side. Hopefully the dems can realize it could easily swing back in 2 or 4 years & dont' do very much stupid.

Communist China wrote:You guys gotta learn to trust statistics and polling. It's not like they're calling a state with 3 votes turned in because it's 2-1, it's because of accurate exit polling. I know we've been fucked over by premature numbers before, but we will continually improve at gaging public opinion and polling, and even if they did call it wrong at first - not like they can't fix it later. The media calling states early doesn't mean those states can't turn out different and be changed.
If you don't like it, go to bed. The finals will be in when you wake up.
the problem with them calling it early is that it demoralizes those who would vote otherwise. If I was out west or if my state was still open to vote, why bother going out if Obama is gonna win
I agree with you there, but not only because of that, it could effect smaller races. If someone's running for congress or even mayor of a town or something, and alot of voters stay home, it could drastically swing the outcome. Even in negative light to a democrat, who myb hoped to ride Obama's coattails in a state like Oregon. Then now fewer dems in Oregon would be voting. It could work the other way, & hurt a republican also too.

voted Republican down the line in 2004, voted for Republican Charlie Crist (a McCain supporter) for governor,
Republicans need to get away from the uber-conservative base. It' isn't doing them any favors & is only pandering to southern states that are going to vote Republican anyway. If Charlie Crist & Tim Pawlenty do a good job over the next 4 years they should pair up & run on the same ticket. Fewer & fewer states have majority populations who care much about the NRA & Bible thumpers "Godless" attack ads.

500$ that they didn't earn. Tell me how it's right to take my hard earned money and give it to lazy pieces of shits. I've had to fucking dodge bullets twice over here for my paycheck and some fucker sweeping the floor at Abercrombie is gonna get my fucking money under obama.
A.) you don't make over $250k chief.
B.) It's called a progressive income tax & our countries seen it's greatest growth since Teddy Roosevelt implemented it in the 1910's.
