Yeah, and Nyquil & Robitussin won't fix it either tho, so our human bodies are little advanced than we were in 1918. You're "smart" phone doesn't make you smarter, nor better able to outlive a virus.
No, you're right. For some people they won't need anything. There's a difference between taking it seriously and doing a ridiculous amount of damage to people's lives more than the virus ever would have. People seem to think that there's no such thing as overreacting. I disagree and something tells me when this all disappears in a few weeks and the actual damage being done is realized, people will see the light.

We're going on lock down here in Illinois. Now Neemo says Canada is on red alert.
Trump is the one who said this thing is going away on its own. I don't want to hear one more word from him. Someone should quarantine his mouth.
You'll likely have a great excuse as to why this was all so stupid in a couple months. Meanwhile, here in the real world, lots of us have obligations to adhere to...if you wan to go rogue, by all means.
I'm hearing rumors that they're about to deploy the national guard. As I said before...no one wants this happen...but it's fuckin' happening man.
I can't believe you can't believe it. I've always (ALWAYS) been about personal freedoms. Finally you can understand that I don't give a fuck what Trump says. Take responsibility for yourself. If you're at risk or live with people at risk, don't go out. Keep at risk people in homes and hospitals quarantined. It's done bro. Healthy people can handle it just fine until it goes away on it's own in a month or whenever these things always go away. Trump doesn't know dick and neither do all the so called experts. Go back and ready everything I wrote...nowhere did I claim to have the solution. Nobody does, and that's the point. We're having all this collateral damage that you're perfectly okay with because people refuse to take care of themselves. I'm not okay with giving up my freedoms because you're a dumbass (not you specifically for once mitch, but the idiots that are at risk, yet put themselves at risk anyway).
Man this is dumb. You don't 'know' if you're susceptible or not, people in their 30s & 40s are dying from it. Plus you can 'carry' it, and pass it on to someone else. Imagine an elderly couple behind you in the market to pickup a gallon of milk, and you spread it to them by using the credit card keypad entering your PIN, or holding the door. 1918 was exactly this, and they were holding parades & being out & about & couldn't figure out why it wasn't going away. It eventually mysteriously went away in November after quaranteening was implemented.
To say "I"m healthy" and go out & about is idiotic, and directly against what will stop this. YOU WILL PASS IT ON TO OTHERS!! Also, it's summer in Australia, and bad there. So it won't just go away when its warmer out.
To drunk to fully respond, but if the at risk crowd is either protecting themselves or being protected, it doesn't matter who gets infected.
Lots of misinformation out there...dont believe everything you read. That said, I will respect whatever policies that are put in place regardless of how misguided I think they may be.

Yessir, aparently its croup cough, not covid, but now i dunno what to do, i have remote access so maybe I'll just err on the side of caution for a few days...
I work at home all the time, but our company and many others have told people to work from home if it's at all possible. they aren't "mandating" it, but it's strongly encouraged and managers are pushing employees that are resisting to do it anyway.

CDC announces we have to "flatten the curve" and stay in for 2 weeks to not put the burden on the healthcare system; instead they put the burden on the food system and stores ran out of food. Brilliant move!
A couple days (not weeks after they've seen what happened mind you), now it's 8 weeks. 8 fucking weeks??? What do they think is going to happen now? People might (and I say might) have stayed in for 2 weeks. There's no chance in hell people stay in for 8 weeks no matter how many events you cancel. We have complete idiots making random decisions based on nothing but guesses without any concern for all the small business that will cease to exist and the pain they are creating for an entire population when they could be focusing on - i don't know - WORRYING ABOUT THE PEOPLE AT RISK!!!!
The worst part is the people going "well, if they say so..." - no, it's not just ok because they say so. They don't know what they are doing. They have zero evidence other than what happened in Italy with a different set of demographics.
I know this isn't the political thread, but for all of you hell bent on socialism, see Italy...
This is a rant.
What the hell does this have to do with Sociailism? I don’t understand why you think your opinion is better than the CDC.
I’ve been hearing Trump is about to shut down the country.
Are rants banned for 8 weeks too? Fuck that.
You don't understand a lot of things mitch...mostly it's because you don't try to.
From the beginning I've said they have no idea what they are doing...that was before they started shutting things down randomly. Nothing (and I mean nothing) has happened that changes that. If anything, they've become even more random and they keep moving the bar. A panic was created and now regardless of how much sense it makes or doesn't make, the government has little choice but to give into the panic.
What have they done that shows they have any clue what they are doing? Don't say social distancing, because nursing homes and hospitals (that haven't policed themselves) are still open to visitors. There's a very clear at risk population here, yet instead of doing things targeted at protecting that population, they are making nonsensical decisions to cancel things very few in the at risk population participate in. On top of that, they are making decisions resulting in panic buying of food and other necessities that will force at risk people to put themselves at risk because they need food and those other necessities to survive. There's no way to justify that other than you're incapable of thinking logically or acting out of fear. Lock down the at risk population. Have those responsible for the at risk population (whether that be employees of facilities or family) take the same precautions. Done. You haven't destroyed the economy, you haven't put small businesses at risk, you haven't put the at risk population in any more risk than they are now with all of these random "precautions" they are taking.
We're taking steps that have never been taken before in my lifetime at least. The only reason they could give is about some curve that looks nice on paper but can be manipulated in far less intrusive and damaging ways than what they are doing. 8 weeks from now (or whenever what was going to happen anyway happens) when all of this goes away like it would have anyway, they are going to come along and justify all of it by the virus going away even though that was going to be the result anyway. And people are going to buy into it and every single time a flu comes around we're going to go through the same thing because people were dumb enough to believe it made a difference.

I'm a chef for a decent sized restaurant group and I just had to break the news to my kitchen staff that we're closed until further notice.
There are businesses like yours that will not survive the overreaction. Hopefully not yours, but it will happen. Your industry is on such tight margins anyway.

What do we actually know? Very little, right? We know (maybe not) that it started in China. It seems that it spread like mad in Italy. And from what I have seen it has only impacted the senior/elderly crowd. Are we assuming that impaired immune systems are high risk as well or are there documented cases? I mean it makes sense, but I'm asking the question. I haven't heard anything about children and they are almost always included in these things.

Accusing people who are being cautious as giving into fear mongering isn’t necessary. Hoarding TP actually amuses me some.
Not the Least of all, I don’t trust my government right now.
This isn't cautious mitch, it's full blown panic. There's been nothing cautious about any of this. It's been knee-jerk reaction after knee-jerk reaction. Caution isn't letting emotion make decisions. Caution isn't creating fear and panic in response to something you don't understand.
Caution is protecting those most at risk. Why aren't nursing homes and hospitals on lockdown in regards to visitors? Those are the people at risk. Has anyone not elderly or with a severe health issue died or had serious complications? To most of the population, this is a severe upper-respiratory thing that will go away. Caution is taking a consistent approach rather than one that's all over the place. Can't go on a cruise, but my brother that just got off of a cruise can fly home? There's absolutely zero logic to any of this.
When fear and panic control your decision making, it's not going to end well. It's not caution to shut the world down when so few are at risk from something. It's irresponsible. Far, far, FAR more people are being hurt by the response to this than the virus itself and that is an absolute fact nobody not in complete denial can even try to debate.
I guess we just disagree...you seem to take the approach that we know all we need to know there will be a clear and obvious end to something that seems to me nobody really understands....i find it quite bizarre that some countries have basically zero cases and others can’t figure what to do.
Trust me....I’m not panicking...but I’m also not ready to hear the calm down crowd tell me over and over again that this thing is under control. And I’m not watching any news. I’m reading a few things from trusted sources and that’s it.
I’ll tell you one thing..I’m reading a ton of comments from absolute morons saying things like, ‘death is apart of life’ and ‘I’m not breaking my gate for this...’
I see information in this thread that’s been contradicted and contradicted again.
And once again I think lots of people don’t trust the government right now.
Interestingly enough I'm taking the exact opposite approach. We don't know enough to justify the reaction unless there's something they aren't telling us.
