#5671 Re: The Garden » The swing state polls are in..... » 922 weeks ago
Bush won most of those states anyway, Obama 's leading in NM & Colo, & Iowa so he only needs 1 or 2 more. I am not worried whatsoever about Biden as a choice. He's solid. Palin gave a quick bump, albeit a big one, but let's face it, she's going to fall apart within 8 weeks.
For instance:
She claims it's "God's Will to put a pipeline in Alaska"?!!
&
Obama hasn't asked for any earmarks this year. Last year, he asked for $311 million worth, about $25 for every Illinois resident. Alaska asked this year for earmarks totaling $198 million, about $295 for every Alaska citizen.

She has yet to speak to the media & McCain is setting them up under their terms.

I think it's absurd to claim a 1 1/2 year Governor is the next so called "great politician".
It's pretty obvious what happened, Alaska gets alot of their revenue from oil. So let's say they tax it at 5% or whatever, and receive an average of $10 million dollars. Well, thru no credit to Alaska or their politicians, the price of oil tripled. So now instead of receiving $10 million in oil tax revenue they're receiving $30 million in tax revenue. Hence, a surplus.
#5673 Re: The Garden » MSNBC Drops Olbermann, Matthews as News Anchors » 922 weeks ago
I agree with you there. I always wondered if Olberman was going to be at the Republican Debates last year & I was surprised when he was and was the host. I think Scarborough & Matthews would have served much better. I like Joe Scarborough, at least on his show. Don't know much about him but his viewpoints seem pretty reasonable.
Olberman's show, though wayyyy to the left really carried MSNBC as a whole in the last 2 years or so, ever since he really started attacking Bush. MSNBC used to be a second rate news channel, now it's close to CNN & FXNN. His ratings have caught O'Reillys. Supposedly Chris Matthews is going to run for a PA Senate seat in 2 years. Arlen Spector needs to get out of there. His whole obsession with the NFL & NE Patriots cheating scandal is ridiculous.
Funny Olberman story, remember when he was on ESPN & Sportscenter? Well a while ago a guy I work with was with some younger people last year & they were talking. One of the guys who is younger said "What is Keith Olberman doing on NBC Football. What does he know about sports?!"
#5674 Re: The Garden » Biden threatens impeachment if Bush strikes Iran » 922 weeks ago
Why impeach a lame duck?
I agree, but I think it was just a statement made on a campaign trail (it says he made it Thursday). Not a serious notion to impeach. Bush most likely isn't going to start a war with Iran anyway.

I think the Big 3 in the AFC (NE, Indy, SD) are going downhill. I'd bet only 1 makes the playoffs. Probably Indy even though they lost last night. Cinci looks bad too, CLE has a tough schedule ahead & needs to prove alot in the first 3-4 weeks. Pitt looks tough.
In the NFC the biggest shocker was ATL. Surprised both Ryan & Flocco (Balt) started at QB & played pretty well.
While I don't wish injury on anybody, I would like to see someone run up the score on Belicheck. I recall he did it a few times last year, esp against Wash & Joe Gibbs.

It was very similar to Brady. knee injury, early on in the game, it was against GB. At GB if i recall correctly. Back when the Birds defense was great with Reggie White, Seth Joyner, Clyde Simmons.
They had Jim McMahon as the backup, until he got hurt a few weeks later. Then they were picking up a bunch of former players who all kept also getting hurt. One was a former Jets QB who was working in construction.

This is bigger than Marino going down in 93 at the beginning of the season.
I'll never forget Randall Cunningham going down on opening day in 91. The day I was going away to college, we were listening on the radio. Ruined my whole day.
#5678 Re: The Garden » McCain destroying Obama in latest Gallup Poll » 923 weeks ago
Yeah I saw this. I still feel pretty confident Obama will win, but McCain got a big bounce off the RNC & the Palin pick.
#5679 Re: The Garden » 2008 NFL season » 923 weeks ago
Yeah they said on ESPN a NE player (anonymous) said "Matt Cassell is our QB for the rest of the year.".
Nugdafied that pre-game song did suck. The whole thing was corny.

Michael Strahan's not too bad on the pre-game/halftime show. Better than Tiki Barber is on TV, he's horrible.
