Eagles might be making a go at Asante Samuel. Man I hope he isn't just using the Birds to get a good deal with NE.

Samuel Visiting Eagles on Friday

ComcastSportsNet.com

It appears the Eagles are planning once again to deviate from their model and sign a high-profile free agent.

A league source has told Comcast SportsNet's Derrick Gunn that the Eagles have a deal in place with Patriots free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel.

Now, it's just a matter of finalizing it - which the Eagles failed to do two years ago when they lost center LeCharles Bentley to Cleveland.

Samuel, 27, is visiting the Eagles' practice facility on Friday.

Donovan McNabb has made a cry for more playmakers - and Samuel is one, albeit on the other side of the ball. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound five-year veteran had 22 career interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns.

The Eagles were not only last in the league last season with 19 takeaways but also the only team not to reach 20. They were also tied for last in the league with 11 interceptions.

Samuel would give the Eagles a secondary with three starter-quality cornerbacks - but whether all three can happily co-exist is another matter. Because the Eagles often play three cornerbacks, it would behoove them to keep all three.

If the Eagles had to move one - Sheldon Brown or Lito Sheppard - it would likely be Sheppard, given his purported dissatisfaction with his contract and his fragility.

A prolific playmaker when healthy, Sheppard was limited to only 10 games last season because of a sprained knee suffered in the season opener that hindered his play throughout the season. He has failed to play a full season since 2003.

Moving the hard-hitting Brown to safety is another option.

Samuel would be the first high-profile free agent to sign with the Eagles since defensive end Jevon Kearse in 2004. The Eagles signed Kearse to an eight-year, $62 million deal, which at the time made him the highest paid defensive end in league history.

Kearse was cut on Thursday.

I think it's a last ditch effort in Texas & Ohio. After that, it's too long a wait (@6 weeks) until PA. Too much money & campaigning would be needed to win a state that will likely go about 50/50, so she really wouldn't gain much ground. She needs to win on Tuesday, not tie or come close.

It may be best to take the Giants' route of last year, and sit the initial wave out, and see what becomes available on down the line.

That's actually the Eagles approach also, only it doesn't work out  as well for them. We just end up with a bunch of mediocre bums nobody else wants.

Her older stuff is more rock driven - If you listen to Promises in the Dark it's a rock song very guitar driven, Hell is for Children, Heartbreaker, even Hit Me With You're Best Shot I don't think I would consider pop etc.   Even Shadows of The Night had a heavy guitar to it.

I know I would recognize these songs if I heard them, but when I read the titles nothing came to mind. I'll check out the previews on Amazon.

Interesting question. While I'd have to say Blondie was more artsy whereas Pat Benatar was more a pure pop hits machine (We Belong & Love is a Battlefield seem straight out of an 80's movie soundtrack), I had to look at their greatest hits cd. Benatar had more hit songs, and bigger one's, but I dunno, I wonder if alot of it was fabricated & just given songs similar to Aguilera & Spears (wasn't Hit Me with you Best Shot written by John Mellencamp?!) whereas Blondie wrote the songs a la Gwen Stefani & No Doubt.

I'm going to go with Blondie on the credibility factor. Just my $.02.

I probably posted this before but here seems accurate as well.

That's gotta get annoying, considering everytime he, or anyone famous, tries to go out for a bit they encounter that.

Price of fame I suppose.

I have a theory about Universal, being GnR related it likley won't come to fruition. Anyway, isn't NBC under to Universal/Vivendi umbrella?? If so, the Olympics, being in China, are on NBC this summer. Couldn't that be incorporated into some grand marketing/promotional campaign worth holding out 1 more year for. Songs like "Better" used for nightly highlights of those who were successful, The Blues for those who struggled. Just imagine slow motion gymastics highlights, or lowlights. Anyway, remember when Seinfeld used GD's "Time of your Life" in it's finale. Not exactly the same, as the song was already a hit, but I think it reached a new, wider audience at that moment.
