I think my main problem with it is that it has too much Myles influence. The chorus sounds like it could be one of those uplifting, cheerful Alter Bridge tracks.

Contrast that with Halo. Halo is true Slash.

yeah totally.

There's a couple of songs I really liked on World On Fire - but overall I felt that whole album felt a lot more Myles than the last one.  And so far this one seems to be moving in the same direction.

Apocalyptic Love to me was the recent album that had the most GNR-style slash riffs (aside from that I think it's probably 5'Clock).

Given how much I love Slash and the rest of his solo efforts I want to like this, but I have to say it sounds like a B side.

The riff seems heavily reminiscent of Withered Delilah from World on Fire.

The bridge is an actual reprise of Standing in the Sun from Apocalyptic Love for no apparent reason.

The solo and other guitar work is ok for what it is - but not even close to the kind of magic Slash can do.

Overall this reminds me of a sequel to a movie thats already had a lot of sequels, it's ok for what it is - doesn't really do anything wrong - but it's not really adding anything to the catalogue and most of its good ideas have been done better in the previous work.

I find it a bit worrying, as if this is the masterpiece of the album than maybe Slash is out of ideas, but then again - he's often picked singles that I thought were among the blander of the album while the rest turns out to be killer, so although this song did nothing for me, i'm going to hope that deep in the album there's another Anastasia or a Wicked Stone or a Dime Store Rock just waiting to wow me.

It might.

It's hard to know without seeing the actual paperwork.

Some contracts a re-issue and live album would count in others it might have to be new originals. Depends on the wording.

Unfortunately if you want out of the deal they will probably have to release something. So might as well make it count and do it with some good material.

I agree...but I think this is where they get into a standoff.

Axl's got millions and millions again now after this tour.

He's 55. He could just retire or do a hits show every 6-7 years for another couple of cycles, then call it a day.

The label might realise that something is better than nothing and agree to his terms.

Then again....the hits show next cycle would be vastly improved by releasing a new album to theme it around ac/dc style.....

So who knows. Labels are pragmatic but also don't like fucking themselves.

GNR probably wants out of its record deal.

Remember at china exchange Axl said how if he did things differently he would have formed his own record company.

So if you are the label....you have 1 GNR release left that you get profits on.....lets be real - GNR was a classic rock not a dance act, and to the general public Chinese Democracy itself is not a 'real' GNR record due to the line up - so if you are the label - do you want your final GNR release before Axl forms his own label to be a dance remix of Chinese Democracy?

I think Axl's plan was to con the label into the remix album, then he can do CD2 and future releases under his own banner. However the label wasn't that dumb.

This made Axl's next move quite logical. He can't release a new record - as he wants that for his own label. But another tour with the nu-lineup will not do adequate numbers without new material as he's already been out playing hits with them for 15 years.

The logical move is reunion. Reunion can do massive numbers for a huge payday, and it doesn't need new material at first either.

Lol $5

In just 16 short years of saving that will buy you the Locked And Loaded Box Set.

Which sounds bad...but odds are it will still be the most recent GNR release by then too.

I've been listening the remastered Appetite...Someone find a big different with the original? To me they sound almost the same...

It's about 3 or 4 decibels louder than the original CD.

Listening to the 192/24 bit version it's a bit crisper and cleaner sounding. I notice very subtle sounds like the sound of the cymbals in places and things like that. It's subtle stuff but it's there.

This version being louder will have less dynamic range for the purists that care about such stuff, personally I'm not too worried about dynamic range for hard rock - it's not like if the AFD5 played this live in your living room that there would be many quiet parts - Slash's amp alone is usually set to insane volumes. The compression here brings the recording to modern levels and allows it to sit well in a playlist with newer music.

Obviously an expensive release, but if you're an audio type person then I think the shear fact this is an HD release makes it great.

I hope for UYI to get the same treatment - although given the censorship of Mamma Kin and OIAM - who knows what they'd do with GITR and Shotgun blues etc....hahahah

They really ought to release a mini-EP with the current band doing studio versions of Slither, Better, Chinese Democracy, This I Love and, oh I dunno, one of the covers. Fuck it, The Seeker, why not?

I'd buy it - but if they do that can we use Axl's vocals from the TIL remix please!!!!

Well most of the major GNR sites on youtube are now closed thanks to walker and his buddies.

Frans, Gibbo, all of the big sites where people get their GNR content are over. I don't think some of you appreciate the impact of this - most of the time when one of us links to a GNR video its from the same few sources. There's going to be hardly anything on youtube in another year. It will be like when prince was alive and there was no prince content.

So keep protecting walker and so on, but next tour no one will be sharing anything online.

The way i see it - from Snakepit in 1993  onwards there has only ever been a need for a Slash solo project because Axl was either refusing or taking unacceptable amounts of time to work with - classic rock style Slash riffs.

This has now led to Slash releasing 8 straight up guitar rock records - all of which had numbers that would have made good traditional GNR songs except that Axl wouldn't work with Slash, or would have taken many years to release them, or wanted to pursue genres of music that did not suit these riffs. In the same time frame Axl has released one album of his new music.

So for people wondering why Slash doesn't have melissa and Dizzy guest, well, I suspect the answer is he never really wanted those types of sounds in GNR in the first place, and the whole purpose of these side bands is to actually record classic rock guitar style music - which for some reason Axl seems unwilling or unable to do.
