and that he remade songs that according to his rocker point he didn't want because they weren't hard rock doesn't give him much coherence.
That I can agree with.
To be honest I think there's fault on both sides.
Against Axl there is that although art shouldn't be on a timeframe, he has taken this to extremes. I know he doesn't owe anyone anything but it's just sad to see so much talent dormant for so long. Likewise, I understand being influenced by Nine Inch Nails and wanting to branch out, but it's a bit strange to have access to someone with 1991 Slash's guitar abilities sitting around and yet focus so heavily on a different genre.
Against Slash - Well, he seems to be naturally super-cool but he tries a little too hard to maintain this image at times to me. Like when he said on tv once that he sleeps in sunglasses even in bed at home. Perhaps, I'm unfair - maybe he does - but at times he's been a little overly worried about GNR staying cool - he seemed to never like the ballads from the start for not being rock enough - and it's weird to me if he did dismiss songs like those on the 2008 album for not being Rock when they can easily be made rocky. Likewise, I take the point that VR was trying very hard not to be an 80s band too - even though I love VR for what it was. Reading Matt's version of events too, and looking at how Slash has come and gone from projects over the years...I do think he can be a touch cutthroat when necessary as well....but then I guess so are most successful people these days.
In terms of him being the best guitarist, I probably over sold it - i saw Zakk say a while back: guitar is not sports - there is no winner and loser and no best. There are lots of people with more skills - But I do think he's established himself amongst the greats in his style and genre.
Hopefully you are right that Axl can still bring it. On reflection he did semi-nail the twat screams a couple of times earlier in the year - so hopefully in the controlled environment of the studio he can still deliver.

From 97 to 99 it's not 20 years,
I was being a little silly in my other post....but in seriousness...
those dates make my point....like Snakepit 1 was recorded due to failure to agree on a GNR direction and it was commercially released in 1995....had GNR not already been the world's most dysfunctional band even back then...a GNR record could have taken it's place.
Then at the end end of the date line we have the GNR record we did get....which did not come out in 1999 but rather in 2008...
So it's absolutely 13 years at least....and then from 2008's album to 2021's Absurd single is another full 13 years......so yeah...I can see why professional musicians may find these kind of timelines problematic.
Oh My God is to me a kickass song with great vocals, so I actually really hope they do bring out a revised version, I'm just saying...
Bringing out these songs now isn't some kind of "deserved punch in the face" to slash - it seems more probable that Axl's vocal difficulties have reached such a peak where ANY recorded vocals of the past where Axl sounds kinda like Axl are now prime meat for the band. Thus "Shadow of Your Love" a song that was so throw away in the 1990s that it was used as a B side multiple times, was suddenly the brand new single that an entire special edition of their most successful album was marketed around.
Likewise we see Absurd/Hardschool/Perhaps drip fed to avoid the duel elephants in the room that the band's key players do not seem to have properly and organically collaborated since 1991 on an album, and, that Axl has such vocal issues now that he may not be able to deliver to his prior standard anymore even if he wants to.
These guys are now in their retirement years, so yeah, we have to go back 25 years to get some venom back in the tank to make a follow up record sound like what young-men recorded once upon a time, and that's what they are doing...and as a fan I'm sure I will love it....but it's hardly a "fuck you" to Slash....if anything it vindicates his position of making 7 albums outside of the band.....as it would be kinda sad if he'd done nothing since 1991 wouldn't it.

Anyone else getting sick of Will Smith and his wife?
How many times does that woman need to embarrass him before he stops being such a wuss? I am guffawed at what a tool will smith has become.
Yeah it's hard to watch.
I mean he already ended his career on live tv for her, and she's already publicly humiliated him professionally, emotionally, sexually, and pretty much any other way possible countless times. Like when does it end. Is she trying to put him in the ground or something.

and well deserved! axlstyle!
That's right...how dare slash want to take less than 20 years to record an album.
And fuck him for thinking as the best guitarist of his generation, friends with a guy with a 6 octave vocal range, that they should continue in the hard rock style that they have exceptional talent in and made them famous, when clearly, what they should be doing is mimicking what soundtrack musicians do. Honestly the logical thing to do would be to start over in a new genre, learn to play synths and computer things to a world class standard, and then just conquer the world a second time in a different genre. Sure it will require reeducating their fan base and the entire consumer market - but is that really so hard? Why do they want the band to do what it's known for anyway?
Maybe if they weren't in bed sleeping at 5am - which is after all the most logical time to be working on this stuff - they would be less surprised when a bedroom guitarist of no particular talent and import is given the same credence as them. Why do they not want to filter all their communications through a make-believe family of maids desperate enough to put up with psychological and physical abuse? What about this situation made them think they deserved better?

It makes sense.
Like GNR reunion tour has been amazingly successful but I think recent legs are showing they are going to start to struggle to fill stadiums alone if they remain on the road as often.
Motley/DefLep has been awesome but once this aussie leg is over in December I think it will have kind of run its course all over the world too. Needs freshening as a concept.
Both bands need a bit of a pick me up - motley has lost mick and vince and co getting older, Axl has lost some vocal power in recent years. Both bands also looking forward - Motley recording new stuff of late - GNR is GNR but has been more functional music wise in the last 2 years than the 15 before it, and Slash and Tom both seemed to think there's more. Just makes sense.
Aside from the old bad blood between Vince and Axl (which you would assume is over) they are both two of the great hard rock acts of the 1980s. We know from the perhaps video tommy and john5 seemed down with richard and frank.
Two of my favourite bands anyways. I would go for sure. I know there's been bad blood between the fanbases but fundementally they are both great guitar bands.

Probably both true, I gather they tried to get bucket back until late in the proceedings, so it's believable to me that at first they may have been more cautious about sharing stuff with bumble than they would have been by later in the tour when he was established as a fixed member of the band.

Even Bumblefoot, Robin Finck and other ex members couldn't have the songs. Just work on them un the studio with all the confidential issues...
I'm sure they don't have anything right now. Then Jarmo is less than them. Maybe he was allowed to listen everything, but not to give a copy.
What? Ron had them on his laptop and mentioned it in his vids
I'm getting old for the details...but I think I remember Ron telling a story that when he joined for security reasons he wasn't allowed to keep the songs only listen to them on a laptop in a room with Del a couple of times.
So stuff like TWAT at Hammerstein Ballroom in 2006 was him approximating what he could recall of the solo having only heard the song a handfful of times before playing it live. Because he is Ron it's fairly Amazing what he did of course, but that's why in subsequent tours he was able to become more note accurate as by then the album was freely available so he could learn it perfectly - whereas the first few shows are him kinda winging it. But I remember being interested that even someone playing in the band was being restricted from access to the demos at that stage.

I liked the lasers although not sure if its just for powertrip. I came across an 80s Def Lep video on youtube the other day and I was thinking about how lasers used to me used all the time in stuff like rockshows and fantasy theme park productions. Tech is more sophisticed generally now but I feel I don't see much of those style effects these days.

The wait for this song seems to be getting to me more than previous waits. I mean it's only been a month or two since they announced it right - but I feel like been hanging for this vinyl to drop forever

I can't stop thinking about how Tom Mayhue's comments.
They would sort of fit with their being an EP or an album with tracks that are old and/or sound like AFD era. After all the songs we have gotten recently are cool but do not really match that description and he spoke like he had heard them.
On the other hand could just be the media using the phrase 'album' when they mean 'single'.
But I wouldn't rule it right out.
