It's BS, Buzz, because what you're saying is true is just your fucking opinion. Now you've got your little fan club here of followers marching lock-step. It's just a little much for me to be claiming victory of some perceived failure.

I agree. it's all in the perception.

We got into this in another thread, but I see CD as a sucessful album compared to other modern bands because it was something like 14th highest selling worldwide last year. To me that's positive. To Buz it's a negative, and proves the band a failure. We agreed to disagree 16

So which of us is right? Both I supose..depending on how you look at it.

Anyone who takes a fixed stance will be right some of the time. Jarmo's 'positive' stance to new-gnr will be lead to correct outcomes sometimes, and Buz's 'negative' stance will also be right sometimes. Always answering 'yes' or always answering 'no' to a question will give you an amount of success over time.

Everyone knows GNR is an unusual band, and things run a bit differently to normal, but the only logical approach to me is to expect both good and bad things in the future, the same way we've had good and bad in the past.

I agree if he found forgiveness in his heart naturally then that would be the best thing for everyone concerned, most likely including Axl's own health.

But this thread was about a promoter offering GNR $150 million to 'get over it' for the sake of playing 21 shows..when Axl clearly  hasn't yet found that forgiveness.

So while you might be right that he should get over it for other reasons, I still respect him for choosing not to give in just over a bunch of cash.

Not everything negative said is true however. Around the start of last year Buz was saying that the album would NEVER come out.

I don't like the propoganda at places like HTGTH, but I think we need to be careful not to go too far negative as well.

It depends how you look at it.

It could be said there is integrity in that he will stick to his grudge rather than forgive a person for the sake of dollars.

I don't know or understand why Axl feels like he does about Slash...and like any fan from back in the day I wish he didn't - but at the same time I do respect that Axl can stick his ground against all odds - public opinion, millions of dollars....whatever else. One has to respect that on some level.

I don't think that was so bad - he's basicly just saying his favourite style is the complex long songs ala UYI...and that new-gnr is recording tracks closer to that style than VR is. Which is pretty true. I dont think anyone disputes that it's axl who writes those big ballad type songs...

I wouldn't have picked Whitewash for Bucket. It'll be creamed by Slash and  VR, mainly because so many on this site cream for ANYTHING Slash does. Nothing wrong with that, but Slither is not that great of a song. And the riff is average, at best. I think the riff in Set Me Free is much cooler.

Fall to Pieces to me is one of those "half cool" kinda songs...the types of riffs are in the same style as some classic slash stuff that is cool...reminds me of some of the GRR-Lies type stuff...but it also sort of goes no where in the end - Scotts vocals are WAY repedative in general but it's really obvious on this track, and I dunno it's the kind of song I enjoy now and then or live but dont want to hear all that often on my home system. I'd have loved to hear it with some different vocal melodies...like an Axl approach to it.

Slither is a different story...great riff....not a big fan of that intro pre the riff kicking in...but once that riff hits it's a good fun song, and it's got a cool solo. Good song to me.

I tend to like bucket's more shreddy stuff...so whitewash wasn't so much my taste....now something like Soothsayer or Notthinham lace...now those are songs I'd have trouble voting much over!

VERY interesting post. Great find...I wonder if it is the same song or if he just re-used part of it as a theme or something.

I think one of the other izzy songs i've forgotten the name of also became "Do it for the kids" by VR...so it's not unheard of these guys to jam out something for a while and then go their seperate ways with it....and you end up with two tracks.

It's interesting how many songs Axl verified as real there too...hope we get to hear some of them one day.

#7888 Re: Guns N' Roses » Where is the Better Video..? » 891 weeks ago

Yeah it's strange that it never happened. Maybe they're holding it out  for a re-release....release a box version with new art..and a bonus disk with a live montage footage from the 06 tour - you just like 4 or 5 tracks - Maybe Better, CD, Street of Dreams, and a couple of AFD songs like "Nighttrain" or "Paradice City". I'd buy it smile smile

While I agree with james about the loss of Robin and Bucket from a marketing view, I also think that a lot of people percieve GNR as "Axl and the guys who arn't slash"  - which as much as it can be negative for the band would actually come in handy in this context - I think outside of the hardcores like us - a lot of people - if they can pursuaded to buy a GNR record (or re-relase) from the 'new' gnr at all - don't much give a shit who it is - they're just buying for axl.

Or another idea would be do do something like NIN did with the physical version of "The Slip" - had an album and then that bonus dvd with the rehersal footage of like 4 or 5 tracks. Record a private intimate dvd like that of a live version of a few tracks with Bumble and DJ really ripping it up and I dont think people will care that people are missing from the CD version. If they promote it right people wont know unless they start reading the booklets. Maybe Rhiad or shacler's so bumble can go nuts....recorded in an intimate setting with close ups of Axl and the guys rocking out...would be amazing!

Where is the evidence that supports Axl being friends with Richard?
Everything I see supports Richard being a hired touring/session guitarist.

Hmmm...I guess I phrased that badly...I ment Axl has a functioning civil relationship with richard....yes...richard is an employee or whatever...but he and Axl are apparently on friendly terms within that context hense his continuing involvement with GNR. Otherwise he'd be fired ala Gilby, Matt.

This can be contrasted to the Axl - Slash relationship where, and I'm too lazy to go get the exact quote..but Axl said he'll never play with slash again unless he's tricked into it, and then if that happens there will be trouble.

But I stand by my point - which is....Axl has his own reasons to like or dislike these people because he has known them all personally. Fans are drawn to Axl...and some want to like or dislike the same things Axl likes or dislikes just to feel closer to him or feel they are supportave or part of GNR. ..But unlike Axl...the fans don't have a personal relationship with Slash/Richard....so they have to make up other reasons to like or dislike these people.....and those reasons are often inconsistant as in this example given by james.

It's quite sad really. I'm fine with Axl hating Slash. That's between them...but it's lame that fans need to follow Axl to the extent that they will also develop anger toward a person they've never met or otherwise seek to endlessly discredit him. And that basicly has to be the reason.

Let me ask this - if the impossible occured...and Axl and Slash made up their dispute somehow - and became best buddies - if Slash was welcomed back into GNR with a massive fanfare and press release and all the bells and whistles - would the editorial position of HTGTH and the other sites remain? Do you think those posters would be posting the kinds of stuff they do? Hell...no....everything they post is designed for one purpose...to show how much they think the exact same thing as Axl. The day axl changes his mind, is the day all of those sheep do too.

Axl says that day will never come, but if it did, i'm sure that's what they'd do.

We're not talking about "most people". I know that nobody in the general public knows or cares who he is. I'm talking about hardcores shitting on Slash for things he does then a week later Fortus does similar things which get praised.

What it comes down to is that Axl hates slash for personal reasons. Axl is friends with Richard.  Axl is an enigmatic interesting famous person of the kind people like to follow. So people want to do as he does, and thus hate slash and like richard. Unfortunately, While Axl has own personal experiences, and thus legitimate reasons to feel the way he does about these people, the fans do not. So they're left trying to cook up justifications and reasons for them to be able to exhibit the same behaviour themselves.
