What's the matter Mikkamakka? You can't see Rick kicking ass up front with VR?

#7962 Re: Management » PM Spamming @ MYGNR!? » 892 weeks ago

AtariLegend i think some of the posters were clearly wrong to imply that EVERY user of the other sites is a sycophant, or idiot or anything else. Clearly in any community, there will be variation in the tone, level and quality of discussion achieved.

Myself when looking for a community I hope to find some balance.

Some places are too negative for my tastes. Such as when people comment on you-tube vids and stuff. It's frustrating for a person who enjoys the new music to have to wade through 100 posts of "Axl's a fuckhead" to get to some discussion about a song etc

However in their attempt to solve that problem, and I suspect to win favour with the band or those close to the band, some sites are moderating discussion to a point where the posts are too political. Examples of this in my opinion are:

- Users being sanctioned for simply refering to an exmember of the band, even if the comment was not in a way that insulted current members.

- Posts from users, encouraged by administration, that actively insult former members of the band and promote hatred of anything but the current line up. It's fine if some people feel that way. But promoting hatred is uncool. There are many fans who respect the contributions of every person ever to have been in GNR, but such people are not welcomed.

- Presenting a distored historical view of events to further the above politics. (For example in 2007 shows were peformed in Australia under the name 'Chinese Democracy World Tour',  latter Jarmo decided he wanted the tour refered to under a different name as some were implying that the set list should have been stronger in CD songs. He then told me that the tour was never called that and argued the point. I was posting at the time holding my ticket with those words in my hands!. Things like this upset me. I love CD, and I loved the 2007 tour. I had no complaints. But I think the band is great enough that if they did something slightly unusal like call a tour after an unrelased (at the time) album then we can accept it happened and still love the band. There is no need to manipulate history over it.)

Myself I like to read both sides of everything. Sometimes I find this place strangely negative...like i'm pumped about the possibility of a new tour with the new line up - and I said in that thread I find it strange that I'm nearly alone on it!! But likewise...some people don't like what GNR does, or don't enjoy aspects of it, sometimes I don't like something as well, and I welcome their opinions too,  just as I welcome someone who supports the new line up like you.

So i dont think its right to insult the other boards, their users or admins, but I also feel it's worth mentioning that this place is trying to achieve something a bit more special than those places, and create a truthful, balanced, and inclusive discussion. Myself I find it successful on that front for the most part.

#7963 Re: The Sunset Strip » Billy Bob Thornton is nuts » 892 weeks ago

I can understand why Billy Bob is frustrated...he sees himself as having been a musician first and an actor second in his life...and so finds questions that imply it's not his first love or even that he's not just a hobbiest to be annoying. And I'll agree with him to the extent that IF they promiced not to say it then that intro was bullshit.

But i'll disagree on a few points:

1. Him being afraid of his past, and being offended if people ask him somethign that they wouldn't another muso actually shows him as insecure about his musical abilities. If in his heart he knows he's legit I dont see why he'd stress about it.

2. Realisticly he is already famous so he lives in dreamland if he thinks no one will recgonise his name. he should embrace it...he'd prob pick up some more causal fans that way - and lets face it - if the music is good he'll be seen as legit and if its not then he'll never out run his hollywood stuff.

3. I actually think it would have been detrimental to not mention it at all. If i heard about this band, and his name, and they said nothing, I'd spend most of the interview going "is that the same dude? - wtf?" and not pay attention to what he has to say, simply going "It's him, but he's loved music longer" would allow me to move on and give him a shot.

4. While it was rude of the station to bring it up if they said they wouldn't, the DJ WAS asking musical questions, not like he started talking about his films or transitioning to stuff or anything. And the DJ clearly tried to make up for it and play ball and Billy was just being a prick to him by that stage.

I do see this as a positive for the band, even if it doesn't lead to follow on stuff such as tours and talk shows etc....I know a lot of people who are exposed to new bands via GH and listened to new stuff they wouldn't have from that. I can guarentee that a few people I know would pay more attention to CD now it's in a game of this kind.

This is kickass news. So is this game on ps3? I only have guitar hero..

Awesome cos:

1. it will be fun
2. It's going to be great for getting this album and band known to kids.
3. We might get fun stuff like some of the vocals and solos isolated by the audio nerds.

I think in some ways the concept of it kind of bites him in the ass in the current.

In a way, Live Era acknowledges GN'R as all of the 'original' sourced band members, i.e. Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, Steven & Dizzy (their first keyboardist), but looks at Matt & Gilby as hired Guns.

My opinon based on utter guesses is that most of the trauma with Axl seems to relate to the UYI period. He now avoids playing most of those songs. He published a review on the offical site that while praising CD basicly insulted the old records. He's said that slash ruined UYI and should have left after AFD. If i'm not mistaken most of the problems with stephanie occured around then too. It was after that tour that he began avoiding the media to a greater extent than before. And things began to take their current shape.

So i'd say perhaps the classification of Matt and Gilby in this sence relates to his contempt for that time period of the band. Just my opinion and I could be full of shit.

16 I'm not sure about in place of Estranged...but I'm actually a huge fan of My World!

Until i came to boards I thought i was the only person alive. The lyrics are so poetic....like it's "out there" but it's amazing lyrically to me. It really captures the type of disjoined thoughts that can run around inside my mind.

There's also some fun stuff...like I love when the sound of the cig lighter triggers that bass part or whatever...golden.

People often bag the shit out the song and while i'll agree its unsual for GNR of that period (which was a guitar heavy sound) - it's in a way the perfect end to those albums given they're already masterpieces of genre spanning and diversity. As a song it's kind of a glimpse into how different Axl is to us, yet also how similar, much like GNR as a whole, sometimes he comes off somewhat crazy, but you're left with a sence of total genius too. It leaves me unsure what I think except I want to hear the song again. That's what "my world" does for me anyway! 5 9

Really? An artist canceling 20% of its shows that fans bought tickets to has minor impact?

What i mean is....I think misterID said earlier that the band has lost its credibility due to cancelled shows and he specifically mentioned the 06 tour.

I felt that the 06 tour actually went part of the way to fix the peformance reputation damaged by the 02 tour - both in terms of image (Robin and Axl looking more traditional rock) and in terms of the cancellation rate (which was lower than previously).

But what i was trying to say is that I think when Axl cancels a show he looses fans and people think ge is an asshole. BUT I don't think it effects his credibility on the "this is or isn't GNR" factor for people. GNR has always had riots and cancells and problems...so if anything...Axl fucking up a tour actually makes it more credible that it's gnr 16

Perhaps we're talking about different things, I'm just saying - while i'm sure it costs them fans - cancelling a show isn't why people dont accept this as GNR. It might be why people call axl a prick. But it's not why they ask for reunions etc. I Think factors far more important to that are the loss of the old members, strange rearrangment of the old songs and solos, the massive wait for new material...those were the things causing credibility issues for the band. TBH I feel that if the AFD line up got back together there would still be cancelled shows. It's part of Axl's life it seems. It's annoying as hell...but it doesn't go towards what makes the band legitimate as GNR or not.

Further to this - see this article from an Aussie newspaper in 07:

http://www.theage.com.au/news/music/rac … 29656.html

See how the promoter basicly says the 06 tour has given him faith that the show will go on as planned.

Don't get me wrong there's always going to be some cancellations with GNR i expect. I'm just saying if people dont respect the new band I dont think the missed shows are why. although i'm sure it costs fans in general.
