I agree with Bono...can't get into tool. RATM wins for me.

What material in the Soundgarden discography do you consider forgettable?
Not sure...i've forgotten it
:laugh::laugh:
I guess at times it's just a bit too unusual for me. While it would get boring if it was all straight 4/4 verse chorus verse, I sometimes think its just too complex. Like Cornell writes unsual (and cool) vocal melodies, but once you add too many strange time signatures, and then start with odd guitar parts - there's a risk of my ears just going "WTF".
To me soundgarden is one of those bands where I don't like every song on the album. However, that said, when I like a song, I love it! For example I'm totally in love with the song "Slaves and Bulldozers" and a bunch of others, but its just for every song I like theres a few I skip.
Perhaps I just have bland taste. As my favourite audioslave songs also tended to be the less effectsy ones.
Anyway. I was actually open to this "scream" idea. I really liked the song cornell did for the bond film. And what i like about him is his power, range, unusal melodies and lyrics, and there was no reason that couldn't have worked in a less-rock-more-commercial setting. So while i knew it would be different, I had hopes for this project. But having listened to it, something about it just didn't click for me in the end...i lked "two drink minimum" and can listen to a few of the others, but overall I see Chris as a starplayer being used in the wrong position in these songs.
Anyway...didn't mean to bash soundgarden, I guess i've just always been interested to know what Chris could do in a less experimental band. I know it would bore him silly to do that I guess. I'd just love to see him with someone like VR behind him delivering straight up rock. Or even just on a track or two of Slash's solo album or something.
#8073 Re: Guns N' Roses » Does anyone else care if Axl just stays in his mansion indefinitely? » 896 weeks ago
I'd care. Not to sound like a nutswinger...but as a songwriter I think he is one of the most gifted of our generation. Listening to the new album is a different experience to the old band, but it still shows me that Axl has an incrediable amount of tallent.
this might sound crazy, but I'd almost like to see him spread his wings a little more, GNR is almost like a prison he's made for himself - fans expect songs to compare to previous works - band members to play like Slash or Bucket did - looking in from the outside it all seems very confined. Imagine if he started working with other musicians without the pre-defined concepts of GNR and expectations - like an occasional song with Trent Reznor or John 5 or random colaborations without them having to be in GNR full time and be on the next GNR album.
Don't get me wrong I love GNR too. But I feel the important thing is hearing the music axl can make...and that's starting to get lost in all the rest.
#8074 Re: The Sunset Strip » METALLICA Discussion » 896 weeks ago
Its a very different situation.
People follow the lead of their idols. In this case metallica came out and said they were sorry, explained what most people thought was reasonable, and promised to make it up - and their track record shows that 99% of the time they deliver what they promiced - on time and without too much bullshit.
Contrast with GNR - who at the time of the riots had a history and track record of cancelling shows, or delaying them for several hours inconviencing everyone involved. You arn't as likely to accept that Axl and co will definately be back another night. Who knows if Slash and co would even live out the week back then. lol. Then there is what is said - Axl left the stage clearly pissed off and angry, and in the st louis case clearly said the venue staff were at fault. And the reasons are not always seen as reasoable to a fan - not like going to hospital is.
That's why he was charged with inciting.
If metallica frequently had some of the issues GNR do, and then left stage saying "fuck this" - i guarentee there would be some shit go down.

they say that 1:12 to 1:14 you can hear a heart biting but i cant hear it can someone help
IMO it's not on the track in that location at least, for this song there are minimal instruments running at that time code, and I just can't hear anything even similar - and I have decent speakers etc.
Then again...maybe i've blown my ears out with my guitar long ago.
#8076 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Tony Montana Velvet Revolver Audition » 896 weeks ago
Yeah unfortunately it seems you are right...if they were serious about getting him it would be unlikely for them to debut him in this manner i guess. So it's basicly once they reject someone that we hear it.
Shame though...i really like this dude...serious potential....that PC cover...sings it with power and intune - which is pretty rare for people doing an Axl song.
I'd love to see VR with a frontman with a really powerful voice!

I'm kinda excited by this...Satch is such a kickass player...it will be nice to see what he does with a singer - as I've only heard his solo works.
#8078 Re: The Sunset Strip » Chris Cornell- Scream » 896 weeks ago
But then I see people claim that Chris NEEDS to do a reunion with Soundgarden. And while that would be cool and it won't be long before they're too old to make it work, I don't think it's necessary for him to make a good album. He just needs somebody talented. Sure, Audioslave got boring and arguably bad towards the end (I do not know their later work well enough to be sure) but that's because it was RATM guys, who were fairly locked into what they could do. Morello only has so many riffs in him. I maintain that Cornell just needs somebody good - and Timbaland ain't it.
I agree with this. Soundgarden fans will hate me, but to me its the same as his other projects - a few killer songs - but a lot of forgetable stuff as well. While I know soundgarden have some cool riffs and interesting time signatures and stuff...to me what was awesome about that band was the lyrics and vocal delivery. Chris is still a hell of a singer...he's got amazing range, power and depth to his voice.....i think he just needs to find the right group of talented backing people. People bag on audioslace now...but that first album has a lot of very good songs IMO...the RATM style gets a bit old for me, as did soundgarden, but they're still damn good. I know it will never happen - but to me cornell has the kind of range that I'd love to see introduced into VR. I think slash working with someone like cornell - with a lot of power, creativity and ability - might really bring out the best in him - and we might get something on par with GNR. Sadly...looks like it wont happen!
