#811 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl, about that RRHOF... » 737 weeks ago

I want to select both option 1 & 3.

I also agree with pretty much everything Monkeychow said.  The biggest tragedy of this whole thing is the volume of work (or lack of) that currently exists from Axl.  He is a very unique and talented singer yet we have only a very small quantity of officially released material from him.  He has a great gift which I wish he would share more liberally.

As a result I will take new music above almost anything else.  Whether that be new music from the current lineup or the original.

I also agree with Monkey on the uniqueness of the Axl/Slash duo.  That is a once in a generation type of chemistry those guys have.  It's disappointing to think how much quality music has been left on the table due to their falling out.

Perhaps none of the guys want the headache of dealing with a reunion for a one off show. Maybe it has a lot to do with Steven, who'd be on their jock about a full blown reunion, going to the press constantly, calling them up, emailing them, trying to guilt them -- and even if it did lead into a full blown reunion, being his babysitter for it night not be a real exciting prospect for them.

.

Totally agree with this, Adler would be fucken unbearable.

That's what I was thinking their initial meeting will probably occur behind closed doors.

I agree Faldor in the unlikely event of a full blown reunion Slash would be a big hurdle to get to amicable terms with too.  As you say, he likes the spotlight and likes calling the shots and he is certainly not as sweet and innocent as his media image may portray.

That said because of some of those desires he would be more likely to bend than someone like Izzy and maybe Duff too.  I could imagine those guys have some pretty non-negotiable "clauses/terms" to get their agreement on a full blown reunion.

Sadly though it's probably all academic really since I see very little chance of it happening beyond a brief HOF appearance.

I will concede that we don't know Axl's view on playing. If the other guys contacted him and said how about we play a couple of songs on the night for old times sake, he might say yes, simpe as that.  But sadly it seems these days the other guys are either too scared of angering the master or can't be bothered with the shit of trying to organse things through handlers and all the associated crap. So even indirectly Axl becomes the stumbling block.

I mean let's say they wanted to get Izzys agreement I'm sure Slash would pick up the phone talk to him, say this is what we want to do and then Izzy would say yes or no whether he was in.

I'm sure it's not that simple with Axl. Firstly they wouldn't be able to talk to him direct, they would have to go through his "handlers".  Then Chinese whispers would occur and things would get twisted or distorted, promises and demands allegedly made or not made from both sides etc etc and the whole thing would end up being a big ball of fuck.

Yeah Even if playing together at HOF doesn't happen, they don't want the whole thing to be be a bad experience giving Axl even more ammunition as to why it should never ever happen even at a later date.

if the band (minus axl) is unified in wanting a reunion of any sorts they wouldn't do that to axl knowing that would bury any future possibility of a reunion.

Exactly, that's why they are just playing the whole thing down. They don't want to paint him into a corner and piss him off.

Here's the FACTS:

Not ONE person from the old band is doing the slightest thing to perform at the HOF, per Duff and Slash. And not one answer has mentioned Axl as the roadblock.

Jesus Christ, get over it already...

That's because nobody wants to mention the elephant in the room when it comes to a coordinating a performance.

Not sure why we need to get over something just because we don't share the same opinion as you guys.

It's pretty simple: of course Axl's feelings on a reunion are the most public and evidently most strong. But, this is a five person band lineup, so more is it play than just Axl's position on the topic.

I fail to see what is so difficult to understand about that.

Yes there are 5 guys, but only one is a fly in the ointment still carrying a grudge like a bitchy little school girl after 15+ years.
