Can't believe I've never heard this before. The only time in the new millennium he aces this song. The scream is incredible and in some parts I'd say he even surpasses the studio recording in power.
Any recommendations from 2010 are welcome.

I kinda want that poster now. Just the over the top controversy is appealing and it has nice colors too.

I can’t believe that in 2021 they’d want to associate themselves anything to do with implying rape…!
I don't think that was the band's idea. I remember seeing a poster like that in the early 90s but I believe it was made in Sweden. Not an official product.
They were everywhere here on tshirts back in the 80’s and they were official. I found it listed on eBay here:

As 10-11 yr old kid at the time I didn’t quite understand it, but I kinda figured what it was implying “guns n Roses was here and had their way with this woman with her undies around her knees”.
And I still think they shouldn’t be associated with things like that in 2021, but hey, I’m not in charge of their Fn marketing am I…?
I was around the same age when I saw it. One of my cousins had it on his wall. He was a few years older than me while I was still listening to Michael Jackson and Dr. Hook. I too kind of got the message even though I was very young, this was a dangerous band. That was actually my very first introduction to the band that I can remember, and to this day I think about it. Just the unique image they had back then.
I'm surprised to learn that this was actually officially sanctioned. In their defense I guess we can say the imagery does not explicitly imply rape, rather a very sexual band that leaves their groupies in that state. There's an important difference I think.
On the other hand, is "Guns N Roses was here" solely associated with that poster? To my mind it is more generic than that. I don't know where it first appeared.

Guns N’ Roses was here was on the back of the original t-shirts. No reason to lose that.

I can see why they continue to tour. Was checking their show here next summer and it is already completely sold out. Free money just waiting to be grabbed.

Axl runs the ship and ultimately he is responsible for much of what goes wrong in the band. The lack of talk however is down to Slash and Duff. They can't do an interview and talk about the songs? They fear Axl is going to fire them and wreck his own tour if they say something "wrong"? Not likely.

Just the fact they are releasing it on cassette is way cool.

I think the Jackie Chan stuff is all just a coincidence. Dude had like 30 movies come out during that time. Axl might have just been a fan.
I think there are too many coincidences. They brought in Rick Rubin to produce and he liked the song but there was no vocals. This was when Slash was still in the band, so the music had already been made. Later he did record vocals and the theme was no longer about any Jackie Chan movie, but probably inspired by the break up with Slash which happened weeks/months after the Rick Rubin meeting. Would explain the lyrics and the anger and the 90s sounding rasp. In the late 90s he had surgery which changed his voice forever. This sounds like old Axl only more worn.

polluxlm wrote:Vocals may be from 1996. Duff talks about it in an interview with Howard Stern that year.
Duff talks about what?? Everyone has been saying this a nuGuns track, is this really an Old Guns track recorded by nuGuns then re-recorded by Old Guns?
He said they were recording for a Jackie Chan movie, then Axl said in that Dexter chat that "Checkmate" (ie this song) had the working title Jackie Chan.
If the song is about Slash then it makes sense if the vocals were recorded in 1996.
