Interesting about Brian May. I'm looking forward to release day to hear the changes...as I have a tough time thinking the new solo could top the old leak. So it will be interesting to see what direction they took the song in.

As to what someone said a few posts back...Well...this will come off wierd for me given i'm the biggest slash fan of all time...but my wet dream at the moment is a Buckethead and Bumblefoot...GNR....and if they wan't to keep a 3rd dude then add in richard as well. That's a guitar line up in terms of horsepower that would be second to none!

Imagine...Bucket plays what he does on the album, plus whatever he used to do in 2002, Bumble can play all his additons to CD tracks and cover robins solos. I think it would kick fucking ass.

The only thing i'd like to see more..(which would NEVER happen) would be the Slash and Ron/Bucket team up - where Slash does the lead guitar on the AFD/UFI tracks and Ron or Bucket adds the shred on the modern stuff. But that's a dream that won't happen.

But a Bucket and Bumblefoot line up could potentially occur could it not? BBF is a pretty easy going guy - i can imagine him working with bucket ok. And between them they can play any guitar part known to mankind!

Booklet is cool to me. Makes me WAY excited for the album - makes it all seem 10000 times more real. I'm holding out from audio tho to keep some interest. But i gather from this Brian May is not on catcher? Interesting...I thought his solos on the demo were very iconic sounding...be interested to eventually hear what they thought was better than that!

The boy girl ratio looks good...but better be no smoking!

^ ok thanks. But i presume they are both the same album? So does it just mean that the 45 speed ones go faster so take more disks to get the same number of songs? Why then do people prefer a 45? Is there some reason it's better?

(Sorry to hijack the thread.)

I wonder how many different versions there will end up being of CD. I can see this getting expensive for me wink

Link is dead now. Whatever it was..time will tell i guess.

Can someone explain to me the difference between 45 and 33 RPM...on records? I know they play faster or whatever...but why does like - say metallica's death magnetic sell for $20 on 33 and $100 on 45?

while you're entitled to your opinion, your opinion is wrong in this case.

I think we need to hear the full album before we can work out that one. Frankly I would be surprised if CD ended up as an overall more impressive guitar album than DM, simply bu virtue of the fact that Metallica is totally guitar and drum driven music. At least 1/2 the songs on the GNR record are heavily ballad/paino driven....and even with the rockers...in terms of complex guitar...the rhythm part to something like IRS is dwarfed by something like Broken Beat and Scarred in terms of the amount of patterns and changes to learn. Solo wise...well GNR has incredible solos from Bucket and Bumble...but they are generally brief from what we've heard.

Anyway i love both bands...and CD may turn out to be better album than DM in terms of the songs overall...but i'm saying if you want to talk just about the guitar parts...then CD won't have anywhere near the amount of guitar on it....

I've been doing that too. Been spinning AFD a bit which is unusual for me, as although i deeply love the album it hasn't been part of my daily playlist for many years.

DM is good, but Metallica took no risk, they simply made a record like they should have been making since Black Album.

Maybe i'm not understanding your point properly, but I think Metallica have taken a lot of risks over the years. The Black Album is very different to the old school stuff in sound, and then Load and ReLoad and different again and involved taking a risk and branching out their style. Sure Death Magnetic is more of a return to their roots, but that's what pretty much everyone wanted them to do.

Much like how Axl is canned by some people no matter what he does these days, I feel that Metallica is in a certain place where a % of the audience will hate anything now. Like if they re-make Puppets its going to be too generic and like old men ripping off their glory days, if they redo the black album they've sold out, if they redo reload then they've strayed too far from what made them famous. I'm not saying you think this, i'm just saying I can't see them releasing anythign that's going to satisfy everyone with a stake in this.

For my money Death Magnetic kicks ass, i've got a lot of enjoyment out of cranking it. Likewise, come november 21 or thereabouts, I'm going to be rocking out to CD and I think that will also be a great album.
