she could honestly make guns relevant to an entirely new demographic
I've said it since the first day she walked through the door.....tons of potential is being squandered. If they're really going to move forward in some capacity, give her a bigger role and market her properly.
I don't think there's really a market for it though.
Like the general public of casual GNR fans, to the extent they want any new music rather than classic hits, they want GNR to do another AFD or UYI sounding record.
The GNR fan base apart from the odd exception isn't looking for electronica from GNR. They're looking for GNR and they've already waited a lifetime for it.
Which then means for it to be successful it would have to appeal not to GNR fans but to the wider pop market.
While it's fun to hear an Axl song like "Sorry" done in a contemporary style....it's a long way from this to Taylor Swift and proper pop stuff like "Shake It Off" or whatever.
The CD remix album might be fun for novelty value, but realistically their electronic skills are not anywhere near on the level they would need to be to be famous in that sphere just for doing that stuff.
In my mind GNR should re-release a proper mix of the original CD album for the 10th next year (like Sixx:Am did this year), with a bonus disc of the dance remixes for fun....then get on with doing what the world actually wants....a follow up rock album with Slash and Axl.
But that's exactly why they won't i guess.

Ashba killed any remaining interest from me. I tried my best to support the guy and initially that kind of worked in his favour since Axl just sounded so damn good at the beginning in 2009/2010 (he looked worse for wear but I couldn't care less), but from there on out it was a downward spiral like we've never witnessed before.
I vividly remember the Rock In Rio "performance" in 2011... Streamed online for the world to see. That was the straw which broke the camel's back - what a fucking disaster.
Yeah it was like that for me too.
Initially I was excited about DJ joining, as I was very skeptical about Robin.
For the record I like Robin's stage presence - he's a watchable dude and I would have liked him in a Rhythm roll with occasional leads on the CD songs - but I just didn't think he had the chops to do Slash's stuff well.
Dj seemed like he would be an improvement at first as it was obviously more important to him to be faithful to the original guitar solos (which is as important to me as sticking to the lyrics.).
I find him a conundrum - I've met him twice and he was a very friendly and cool dude. So I have nothing against him. But I don't really like his stage persona for GNR. His personal style seemed more Motley Crue than GNR (that's not an insult as I LOVE motley - but its a different band) and the effect was kinda like watching Motley Ape Slash and it just seemed a bit forced. Marketing wise it just felt too transparent like you could see the strings or something.
To be honest if he'd dropped the hat and if he didn't pull quite as many of slash's quitar stances I'd have been down to keep him. Like how Robin evolved from 2002 to 2006 I can imagine a version of DJ that I thought was a cooler than the one we had.
Anyway - I was super excited for the band in 2009 - that Asian tour was off the hook to me - finally they were doing a lot of CD songs - Axl was smashing out the screams on twat and it sounded awesome. All guns were firing so to speak.
Then it went to hell with that rio disaster. I remember live streaming it and the shock and disapointment were hard. I convinced myself it was an off night at first but as we all know the next few years were hard. I respect Axl might have some vocal issues or whatever but its just hard to get used to that voice.
It was one reason the 2016 and the Axl Dc shows were so triumphant for fans. Raspy Axl was back for the first real time since 2010 or something. It was like now this is the man.
That shoot to thrill cover.....fuck me....that is Axl Rose folks. It dropped my jaw.

the intro is OK, but it should never be a part of the actual track, it should always have been a separate track. now it's ridiculous to play the song and wait for 1 minute until it actually starts.
yeah I had to set my itunes to make the song start at 0:59. I think the intro is cool - but you only want that build up when listening to the album in full not as part of a playlist or something.

It's totally possible ID....my only doubt is why not replace all of it then...why did he leave some of the bucket solos - like if it was a rage based decision you'd think he'd scap all of bucket's parts not keep the best bits.
#895 Re: Guns N' Roses » LEAKS THREAD » 443 weeks ago
I like all 3 of them really.
Slash is a genius imo, it's not so much the technical skill (although obviously he's got some chops!) as it is his ability to elevate a song emotionally through a solo. There's very little like it amongst guitarists. Truely the rock player of a generation or more.
Bucket is a phenomenal guitarist no doubt. Some of his work is a bit avant-garde for me but when he plays in the style I like he's right up there with the best.
Ron I think is underrated as a musician. I've been lucky in that I got to experience this a bit closer than my love of Slash and Bucket which is limited to shows. With Ron I did some music lessons with him, and he kindly played on a recording of mine, and i've been to a few of his workshop clinic type things. I can honestly say as a guitarist myself that he has serious musical skills. That's putting it mildly. He is absurdly good at guitar. I doubt there's anything he couldn't do if he wanted to. I don't want to discredit how hard he must have trained to do that - but it's almost unnatural what he can do. It was one of those times you meet someone and you realise the true meaning of the word "talented" - people throw it about but sometimes you meet someone who is really exceptional. I get his music isn't for everyone - as with any style - but there's a reason Joe Satriani recommended him to Axl.
For myself I'd hate to see his parts stripped from the album, I really enjoy the interplay of all the guitarists on the record - bumble, bucket, and even Robin heheh.
I would love another mix of the record though. As I do feel at times some parts are hidden and others are too loud in the mix for my tastes.
But I guess each to their own. I like them all.

Bumble played the CD solos like Robin played the AFD solos in 2002
Shrill and off key, killing the melody
That's objectively false.
He played them a little different in 2006 because he wasn't able to learn the songs note perfect prior to the tour starting (apparently was given a laptop and 2 hours to listen and that's it).
However on later tours once he had proper access to the album he played them pretty much note perfect.
Check out TWAT from the 2012-2014 shows.
Axl messes up the vocals a bit in that era, but bumble is playing those bucket solos note perfect or damn close to it.

No offense, but you're smoking crack... bff ruined every aspect of the final versions...
I disagree I think the mix and mastering job is the problem with the final versions.
The actual performances are cool.

The Big Bad Booty Daddy only cares about two things. My Freaks and my LEAKS. Holla if you have them.
#899 Re: Guns N' Roses » LEAKS THREAD » 443 weeks ago
I will always believe adding Ron was a mixture of obligation to give him a role on the album and an FU to Bucket.
I kinda disagree only cos the way Axl seems to be if it was an FU it would be a total FU even at the expense of his own record.
As it stands there's heaps of Bucket parts remaining on the record. You'd think if it was like "suck this bucket" he'd have deleted ALL of the bucket solos - for example the second solo in the title track is really cool but could have easily been swapped out if you had an agenda...
But I do think he added people to give them a roll - obvious example was Frank's addition to 2.5 songs or whatever. Didn't really seem necessary but then at that stage what was I guess hahahah.

The BH riad solo was way better than the BBF one, the BBF one did not even fit the song. It was so out of place.
It's interesting the variance of opinion as it's completely the other way around for me.
I like the interplay between Robin and Bucket on something like the Chinese Democracy title track solo but in the Riad solo section - it's like they try for the same thing but it just doesn't seem to work right.
Robin's intro to the solo is painful but then that's always what he goes for with those awkward bends I guess - but it pushes the limits here - in a way it's cool but I feel like he does this all the time - then I like the start of bucket's part - but the second half of it after about 2.40 just feels like the solo break is still going but the solo concept has ended so he's just holding notes and filling in to make it fit.
I don't mean to bash bucket - I love some of his other stuff like "Worms for My Garden" - he's a monster player - and in fact his outro on Riad is fucking killer...it makes the song...
But as far as the solo section - Ron's solo seems crafted to fill the time properly in terms of it's structure. I like the busy and chaotic nature of it that suits the general madness of the song.
I kinda like having both of them on the track - Ron on the Solo and Bucket on the outro.
