One thing I notice from Madagascar though. Don't know if it's really worth pointing out but I will anyway. Below the name it says under the album title; "Chinese Democracy Final." When we got the link last year, that is the exact same name it had. So either this guy simply has an eye for detail or it is the real thing.

Or he has the same leak of Maddy we all do. And the different songs are re-names of some random mp3s in his collection.

I... would agree with all of that. You're the peace keeper around here, aren't you?

hahah...nah i just can't help but stick my nose into everyone elses disputes wink

And I think that's because I tend to see both sides of almost all the major issues in GNR world. Like i love the old band, but I also love the leaks, I like slash, I like bucket, I like Axl....so i find myself always both agreeing and disagreeing with almost anything someone says on here. Maybe i have an identity crisis!! 9

I actually appriciate what he is saying there. I'll grant it's phrased somewhat awarkwardly, but it definately offers some insight into the writing process and themes behind the song. I've always been on the fence about OMG...I wasn't much into the electronic sound of it...but the chorus hook was catchy and I've always found the lyrics to be meaningful.

Anyway...back OT...i'd love to read a book by Axl.

Maybe it is just miscommunication. But I'm pretty sure I've read otherwise (Mainstream news sources basically saying that the finished album has leaked, for example).

Actually that's true I've seen that too and hadn't thought about it.

As for axl's voice, I wondered if some of it is due to his voice "changing" over the years for whatever reason, but then it's also true what you said about Angel down - i listened to it again today and thought something similar. Even the way the guitars and everything sound on a professionally mixed and mastered CD will be a lot better. So i'd agree these are not at like "broadcast" quality yet if you will.

So yeah...it is kinda crappy that new sources are saying that they are the finished album.

I guess what i mean is if people don't like the leaks because of the guitar tone or axl's voice sloppy drumming or something then i'd agree that the finished CD will blow them away. But people who have issues with the basic structure or style of these leaks will likely still be upset...as I can't see songs like IRS, Better  and Maddy changing dramaticly now (and I wouldn't want them to).

There may be some evolution to the song structure, but I was referring to the mastering, the mixing, (especially) the vocals, etc. - Not even close.

Oh ok smile Yeah i can see what you mean about that...like they just don't sound the way a professional CD does yet and i'm sure they will when it's released.

I think some of this demo argument comes from using different terms.

Like to many people (and say in my band) a demo is like a rough thing - so like you'll turn on a recording device of some kind - slap down a rough riff, throw some vocals over. its to experiment with how a song is structured and different ideas...without spending the $ involved to record the song expensively. So its usually only a couple of takes if that, and liveish type stuff.  Examples of this kind of demo are a lot of the old GNR demos.

The leaks by contrast were obviously recorded over multiple sessions in a pro-tools enviroment and a great deal of time has been spent changing how they are arranged and so forth and working on possbile parts to go with them.

So i'd agree they are "demos" in the sence that they havn't been mixed and mastered fully. Which is basicly what you are saying. But i see what james is getting at when he says you don't see other bands demos like this.

It depends what you mean by finished. If you mean properly mastered etc...sure these are unfinished...if you mean "work in progress" like the songs will drasticly evolve...then i'd disagree...IRS, Better, CD and Maddy are exactly as they were performed in 2007 around the time the album was "finished".  smile

the first thing which came to my head when i read this was Axl's explanation of what "Oh My God" wasall about in the late 90's.....all jumbled up and made no sense...

I never saw that. Was it an interview or something he had written himself? As I can understand giving a bad answer in an interview (especially when your hyper concious about being miss represented as axl is, and when speaking of something emotional and personal like a song)...

bucket

Ok....so here's the thing...

I don't own a lot of bucket's stuff but I want to get some more, but I know he is very advante guard and basicly to be honest i'm more interested in stuff that shows off his incredible technique and shred type stuff than some of the more crazy stuff.

Previously the only songs i'd really heard where "Jorden" from Guitar Hero and "Nottingham Lace" which I downloaded free from his website. I was so damn impressed with the latter that i raced out to my local CD store and bought "Enter the Chicken".

This was where my excitment ended. No disrespect to fans of bucket that love the CD but i found the entire album basicly unlistenable to...just not my thing. Basicly I want things where I hear him play awesome and incredible solos of the kind that make you want to give up playing guitar - much like Notthingham Lace..and I don't mind some wierd funky stuff around it (ala Jorden) but don't really want the lyrical stuff of ETC or too much other stuff.

So what this has taught me is given he has like 200 albums, I need to target my next purchase more carefully. So i'm hoping someone on here can tell me what other songs feature impressive skills like Notthingham Lace? That song is genius.

Prostitute or not...this track is my preferred song of the 3 new songs. smile

Here is a totally OT and random thought: I wonder if the AFD focus in recent years has been cos there are no new rockers. If axl is only writing ballads now then it makes sence to mix them in with some AFD songs to get a UYI balance...
