The other thing is...he then goes on to talk about VR for ages and the upates there...so i mean a reunion can't be happening if VR is continuing. Unless we're talking a one-off show or something.

Personally I think the more sorum rules himself out of a reunion the more liekly he is to be the drummer. Being up there going "I'm the GNR drummer" like the media did when they made VR, and making reunion comments would only make axl less likely to want him as the drummer.

#9074 Re: The Sunset Strip » Skid Row reunion?? » 933 weeks ago

I find the Skid Row/GNR comparisions interesting.

I found the 200x line-up's playing the old GNR songs appauling as they didn't seem to do justice to the old tracks. By contrast I have seen Baz's solo band several times and found they seemd to peform the SR songs flawlessly....

So for me this would mean i have much less interest in a SR reunion than a GNR.

I'm listening to #2 right now and its so damn familiar. I swear the melody in parts has been accidently taken from some other song. I've been trying to pin point it since the first time I heard it but I can't.

I'll get flamed to hell for this...

But sections of it remind me of "Kiss from A Rose" by Seal.

It's very very different as well, so not stolen, and not even noticable in a way, but something about how the melody rises and decends in places brings that other song into my mind.

Now you think i'm crazy right?

Hmmm...despite GNR's mainstream success i've always thought of their albums as being somewhat "for the fans", especially since UYI 1+2 because of the diverse nature of the songs.

I think some of the single choices of the past could be put on par with a properly mastered version of these leaks, in relation to their non-obvious singleness...

For example:

Yestersdays = The Blues
Estranged = madagascar

from there the comparisions do start to strain a little

TWAT is kinda like NR but not as compelling.

What the leaks lack is a mainstream song that would kill.

For example "You could be mine" is more mainstream and got a lot more success than I can see any of this material getting.

But that's the nature of the beast. Axl wanted to change styles and do new things, and that's what we're seeing here. I can't see the songs from this album crossing over to go to #1, but at the same time, I think a mastered version of these songs with a few others, would be an incredibily awesome record and hopefully still quite sucessful, just to more of a niece market than the SCOM listener.

#9077 Re: Guns N' Roses » Differences in the "old" new leaks.... » 933 weeks ago

I know I say this everytime this comes up - but add Axl to the snakepit 1 guitar tracks...then add a couple of pure Axl songs in the classic style like TWAT and The Blues..imagine a slash solo on them and would get what could have been a GNR record. (well u need to add izzy too..but still)

My point is...I don't think the guitar is any worse on Snakepit than AFD (in fact much of it is harder to play) and Axl's melodies and lyrics havn't gone down either. It's just these days we only get to see 1/2 the sum at any one time.

Most people who have an issue with VR don't like the stuff scott brought to the table...his singing style, his lyrics, and his dislike of guitar solos and his grunge with strong shorus-hook style song structures.

Although he has an unmistakable style, slash adapts to who he plays with, i'm sure he has some good riffs in him yet, he just needs to work with people who want to make that kind of music again.

I find the mix of opinions on this album facinating.

Like I found "Catcher" to be quite inspirational yet its a disapointment to Eclipsed107. Likewise James seems heavily into Rhiad and although I don't detest it and can see some cool guitar going on....i find its structure unplesent to the ears...so its kind of the weakest of the leaks to me.

I've read of people that hate Madagascar, whereas to me that song was classic right from when I heard  the first verse. Major sees the title track CD as a 'masterpiece' whereas I enjoy it but think its far inferior to at least 4 or 5 of the other songs.

Nemo hates axl's untra high vocals...yet that seems to be the parts of the song's that make me feel Axl's emotion the strogest and end up being my favourite bits.

It's kinda insane how we all disagree on stuff, but that's also what makes it interesting to read an uncensored site like this.

The disagreement reminds me of UYI as well. Everytime it comes up in a thread people refer to it as having too much 'filler' yet the resulting debates always show that one person's filler is another's masterpiece, and the best tracks to some people are the "always skips" to another.

I feel this is the same. Most people like a few of the leaks, but which ones they like varies a lot.

#9079 Re: Guns N' Roses » Differences in the "old" new leaks.... » 934 weeks ago

Oh slash may have an ego about it. I mean he was the lead guitarist - why share that role? But i don't think he is intimidated...i think he just felt he'd have nothing to do if someone else was ripping out the solos. I mean what would he do? Play izzy's part? If he was intimidated he wouldn't have shared a stage with Zakk on other occasions.

I'm not knocking bucket when i said he is a session player. I just mean like this is Axl's album and he brings in people for particualr purposes and then they're gone. Ron is the person brought in to replicate bucket's part. It's him that plays the bits bucket did when he was in the band...and its him that plays buckets parts on the new songs live (eg twat).

I've thought all along what they needed to do was to have 1 lead guitarist and 1 backing. loose robin and get bucket or ron or someone else to be the lead player. But i guess robin must have contributed parts axl liked so he wanted both things.

I don't really find the lyrics cheesy at all. To me their interesting and i really like the melody of the vocals...it get's stuck in my head.

It's funny how people like different things. Like i can hardly listen to Rhiad that heaps of people seem to like...but I really love this one.
