Surely this isn't all doom and gloom, but it isn't some great thing either and the odds of bad consequences far outweigh the good.
Well I personally am going to have to agree to disagree with you.
For me I think its a great thing! Because:
1. Axl's voice in studio quality - first time heard since "Oh My God" (well i guess we heard some unmastered stuff with the leaks...but that just makes me want this more.)
2. I'm a big fan of Sebastian. In addition to his shows with GNR, I also saw him at a solo gig here, and it really made me respect that the guy (a) Still has it and (b) Really epitimises what real rock is!!
So the way I see it - i'd be happy to hear both #1 and #2 independently - them happening in the one event is pretty damn exciting and a great thing.
I really don't understand "the consequences" that your afraid of? Like what? I dont think anyone expects Baz's album to be a #1 - its a niece market - but the fans like me will like it!! And what else? Someone will say something bad and axl won't release CD? if he was worried about that then theres already enough negavitity about his new band to ensure CD would never come out. So it either never will - or he will go "fuck it" and bring it out - I really cant see any world in which Baz's record has any effect on CD.
Axl did this cos he is mates with Baz, was in the mood and it was fun. Its going to be a fun record - why is everyone so stressed out?

The other criticism is if the album is so good, why would a person who's only talent is to sing bring in another guy to sing lead on 3 of his songs unless it was just to sell more records?
I'd say its more that:
1. Baz and Axl are friends...and its cool to have your friends on your album.
2. Baz is a fan of Axls. Its obvious from all the interviews he has given in the past - especially around the time of Axls return to the public view - that Baz thinks axl is an amazing singer, and he's talked about how impressed he is by his screams and range and stuff. Its therefore logical that he thinks brining him in would make a great song even better.
I dont deny that there will be financial/promotional rewards to having axl involved, but i think thats a welcome side effect not the purpose of his inclusion, as as to your assertion that his involvment somehow means that they doubt the album to have been any good to start with. Well i dont see it that way.
I might have written what i thought was the best song in the world, and if i had a friend who has talents I admire and respect, I'd damn sure ssk him to add to my song.
At the end of the day, i think its a stretch to say that getting a guest singer means you think the album is shit and needs a lift. At the same time - i'm not saying its going to be the worlds best album - i'm expecting it to be similar to the other Skid Row albums - damn fun when your drunk and need to rock the hell out!!!

a) CDs are STILL grossly overpriced. Sure, the price on some came down a bit, and I still buy all of my music legally - but I still can't buy nearly as many as I want to due to the price. $14 for a cheap piece of plastic? C'mon.
Its not $14 for a cheap bit of plastic. Your not putting any value on the efforts of the artists. Its for the thousands spent in the studio, the hours spent at home songwriting, and the years spent at home learning instruments. Think of how much effort someone like buckethead has put in to get as good as he is on guitar. Why should the fruits of that labour be free, when it costs like $14 to eat crap at Mc Donalds?
