You want to know about the world we live in, ask the kids.
#1432 Re: Guns N' Roses » I wonder if Axl is more critical than us. » 749 weeks ago
Judging by his general behavior, Axl has a relatively low frustration tolerance.
He knows what he wants out of the things he does, and if something goes a miss, he oft makes a big deal out of it, despite the relative significance of the blunder.
This applies to how he responds to other people as well as to himself.

I'd like to thank Axl and the Guns for the past year.
We got,
- US tour
- Civil War
- Estranged
- RRHOF nomination
- Axl interviews (!)
and, most importantly, an active and a healthy-looking band onstage.
No new studio material or any concrete news as such. But then again, the US tour just happened to coincide with the RRHOF nomination and there was no better time since... whenever, to get around to promote the contemporary band and have that eternity of an album in your back pocket.
New music would've been sweet.
But it's nice to have you guys out there.

ps. Tommy, Motivation/Sonic Reducer/My Generation,
pps. Ron,

Good ears on Hello. Twas a decent jam, but I personally enjoyed the O2 jam more.
Of course, the best MLK solo was the courtesy of Bucket in Leeds.

Sure. But they DID release the album eventually.
Having said that, I believe Tommy's and Axl's claims about Universal being irrational are not completely without merit, considering the general mindset the execs appear to have when dealing with other established artists, the ones that put out albums on a regular basis.
1916 was about the battle of Somme, and Lemmy candidly remarks that in regards to the album sleeve, while the record company put up the effort to include flags of nations involved in WW1, they just happened to forget the French.

Reminded me of how hard The Blues actually is to pull off live.
RIR3 was perfection, the arrangement has never been all that great since (the less said about the album version, the better).
This one; Axl, Tommy and Dizzy are good as a threesome. When the full band kicks in, you sense the song getting slightly overpowered, even if DJ totally nails his solos.
Axl sounds killer, band does good. Still, just give the song more room. A great direction for the live version, but not quite in RIR3 heights yet.

Axl aside,
Record companies in general are run by morons who can't be arsed to listen through the albums they are supposed to publish / represent.
Read Lemmy's biography for a rundown on the crap he's had to put up with.

"The stupid thing was, it was pulled out of [Axl's] hands. He was already ready to give it up, but there were a few minor things that meant a lot to him artistically, but they pulled it out of his hands anyway. What was another couple fucking weeks waiting for the artwork? I mean really? That's what it came down to. That's just too bad."
Well, so now we know.
There must have been a delay in getting a part of the artwork licenced so thats why the alternate versions were pulled, and we got served what the record company threw together.
Cunts.
That's quite possible, and I agree this to be a big thing for Tommy to say out loud.
However, Axl kept tinkering with the release until the very end, delivering the album to be mastered in October. Beta claimed the unmastered album was ready on the preceding Xmas.
It's all part record company nonsense, part Axl camp nonsense.

Hats off to Angry Anderson, btw.
A credible rocker if I ever saw one.
