Well that is my impression I could be wrong. I've seen some hard-rock purists who will only respect AC/DC, GNR, Maiden, and the other big hard hitters. The alternative stuff they tend to shrug off as inauthentic.
His writing may have been good in STP, or fit that music, but in VR I don't see it. His major achievement was not sounding bad like Slash' other singers. His voice is pretty decent for a rock singer, but the match with VR didn't strike me as very organic. That type of band is screaming for a vocalist with an impressive range.
I think in terms of best people Slash has played with, after Axl, Rod Jackson set the standard.
#142 Re: Guns N' Roses » DJ ASHBA 'Couldn't Be Happier' About Partial Reunion Of GUNS N' ROSES' » 516 weeks ago
Just confirming what we all knew was coming. With Crue retiring, Nikki was going to start touring Sixx:AM and going full-time with it. DJ was either going to be on board or not. And the reality is, DJ has a really good home in Sixx:AM. Axl was never going to use him in GN'R.
Either way, it worked out for the best. Hopefully GN'R fans will be able to enjoy new Slash-GN'R music, as well as new Sixx:AM music, and get double their pleasure.
I honestly, no shit, could easily see Sixx:AM opening for a GN'R reunion tour. It's not a bad opener. They're popular to younger rock fans. Nikki Sixx appeals to old GN'R/Crue fans, and DJ is former GN'R. Seems to all kind of fit the fabric.
It'd be ironic if it happened.
That would be great.
He mad some cryptic statements about leaving GNR to make room for a reunion on Twitter a while back if I'm not mistaken?
He could have been just jumping on the zeitgeist and claiming "Oh yeah I did that on purpose" however.
#143 Re: Guns N' Roses » Looks like rehearsals have started! » 516 weeks ago
While I know GNR are still under contract with UMG....I would LOVE for something to happen like NIN did with The Slip. Just out of the blue....BAM.....there is a GNR album(or a new song) ready to instantly download/stream on the official site.
It doesn't have to be free like The Slip was. Just unload it amidst all this hoopla.
I'd prefer an E.P.
No full album.
Just 5 new killer songs.
3 Studio Cuts and 2 excellent live recordings from the warm-up show.
Release it. Call it "Guns N Roses".
That's what I want.
#144 Re: Guns N' Roses » Big Surprise - We're almost all on the same side! » 516 weeks ago
I am delighted that the forums in general are lit up over this reunion and all the haters from both sides have quietly stopped the civil war.
I just hope Axl can face the level of expectation and overcome any bullshit stage fright and just get out there and enjoy this..
So. What you are saying is this:
"It's good the civil war has stopped. Now excuse me while a take a few shots."
Axl will bring it. I just hope your boy slash can up his game to Chinese Democracy level playing.
Disclaimer: the previous post was intended in jest.
#145 Re: GN'R Downloads » Riad » 516 weeks ago
Interesting. I love Riad(the demo) but always considered the "ahhh...ahh....ahhh's" to be placeholders that he never went back to. Song always felt incomplete to me even though I do think its one of the strongest tracks so far from the CD sessions.
Bucket owns this song. It was a travesty removing his solo from the album.
True those Ahhs could have been swapped out for a nice high pitched guitar riff.

I am so Jealous. 7,944 km. That's whats stopping me.
That and the cost of making a journey of that size.
#147 Re: Guns N' Roses » Why the Guns 'N Roses Reunion Is a Mistake » 516 weeks ago
I certainly don't think they have to announce everything before hitting the stage in Vegas. Just trickle out tidbits of info on the road to Vegas. Maybe even post a clip of rehearsals or let the set list "leak" out. There are many different things that can be done between now and April.
As I've said before, the world lives and dies by what's trending. The fact that the shows are sold out is beside the point. Of course they sold out. Scalpers bought most of them in an hour. Sold out shows isn't a reason to stay silent until they walk out onstage. Many people are happy this reunion is happening. Let it keep going in that direction.
I think they will do all that and more.
I'd expect duff to shoot behind the scenes vids for twitter or youtube.
There is no way in hell Axl would get on the same stage as Slash unless the hatchet was buried.
I think we're gonna see something special here.
I'd expect Axl to be 100% on and Slash and Duff too.
After Axl played with Duff last time he said that he felt he had to raise his game to match Duff during the performance.
He couldn't let himself be outplayed by this guy who he used to be and really should still be on par with.
Throw Slash into that mix, a guitarist who is at his most powerful right now, and you've got a recipe for some incendiary performances.
Axl is so on fire here and so is Duff and they both love it:
Expect that.
I don't think we're going to be let down here.
I think a lot of the problem all these years for each of these guys solo is that the sum is truly greater than the parts.
Together they are a different beast.
And lets not forget this gem:
A simple remix that puts slash duff and axl on the same song manages to be better than either of the originals.
I have high hopes for this coming tour.
But I don't for a second think that they are too high.
I saw Axl about 3 years ago with the old nu-GNR.
He and they were excellent.
I saw Slash with Myles. He was excellent.
I saw Duff with walking papers. He was perfect.
These guys on the same stae playing together again??
Forgedaboutit.
Cannot fucking wait.
As for the Huff-Post?
It's an opinion piece. In the words of Kelly Jones: It means nothing. I know guys who got blogs for the HoPo. They're not exactly rocket scientists and their not exactly in the know about every possible topic either. Opinions pieces simply do not matter...

I saw these guys open for Slash in Dublin maybe 2 years back. They were excellent.

Dream Theater just released their new album "The Astonishing".
I think it is some of their best work to date.
It is well worth a listen and the band an official stream for free on youtube.
I think some of you might enjoy it.

polluxlm wrote:Well, is BOB worthy? Not every GN'R song is a classic. Most, but not all.
Their solo careers show that Axl was critical to the creative process. Even bad ass riffs like Slither are marred by the uninspired mediocrity of Weiland, and he was the best singer they worked with.
I wouldn't call Weiland mediocre – he was up there with Axl in terms of his passion and ability to craft a phrase. The only thing he didn't have was the vocal range. Passion and writing ability are what differentiate them from the herd – with almost all of the GN'R solo stuff, particularly Slash's efforts, the music's perfectly good but it's let down by what the singer's scribbled on a notepad. There's usually a line in every Slash solo song that makes me cringe ("Nervous twitchin' in my hands," "Starlight, don't you cry we're going to make it right," "Gonna make my way down to Mexico.").
The Weiland bashing is often political. Some people just don't like what alternative rock represented.
His skill and the range of feeling he could put in his voice was second to none. His writing was top drawer world class stuff.
