What is there really to admit?  None of us have any clue how often a melody pops into Axl's head when he's tinkering around on the piano, how often he actually works a melody and chord progression into something more like a fully formed song.

None of us even know if it is even Axl's plan to release CD-era material for the next record.

Ali

None of know anything for a fact Ali. It doesn't take a genius to understand what my point was but I'll spell it out for you. I was saying most of us might be affraid to admit that there is a POSSIBILITY that Axl's creative juices aren't really there anymore. If you don't believe that fine but there is the possibility of it. I don't know what melodies Axl works on in his spare time just like you don't know if he works on anything so....

Oh, I understand.  But, I think it is so ridiculous that it isn't even worth considering.  At ANY given time, an artist could be "tapped" creatively.  This could happen after one song, one album, one decade of work.  Is it possibly theoretically?  Yes, it always is.  But, there's nothing to suggest that.  We wouldn't be the ones to know that regardless.  So, there is nothing really to admit, when it's always possible and we have no way of knowing one way or another.

Ali

I understand not wanting to believe it, but how could you say there is "nothing to suggest that"?  I don't mean that rhetorically, I really would like to know.

He's released 15 songs in the last 21 years.  That simple fact suggests it.  Add onto that that we know a lot of those 15 songs existed for a long time before being released.

For the record I hope it isn't true, but there's plenty to suggest the possiblity.

It's all bullshit anyway, I mean those of us who upload music and share with others mostly buy the music in the first place. We share with people because we love the music. This shit is getting out of control, I understand that it pisses band. singers or whatever off, but they aren't losing as much money as they complain about, besides after someone downloads some artist music there's a good chance they will actually buy it.

It goes both ways.  I know probably 6-10 people who haven't paid for music in a decade because they can get it free now.  I know significantly more than that who casually download occasionally.

If most people know similiar numbers they're probably losing more than it seems to most of us.  Although I think everyone would agree even with all the torrent sites it's not anywhere close to what it was back when Napster, etc. were in their hayday.

And every swinging dick Slashite comes in and goes "hey Slash, that's cool, whatever you feel like man".

But when Axl goes (in regards to reuniting with Slash), "i'm just not interested in that right now, i'm interested in what we're doing right now"... he's a fucking asshole nazi.

Then when you try to defend that position, you get some old ass, blah blah blah "he shouldn't use the GN'R name", whatever. roll

I get why at this point that arguement would seem tired, but for me the name thing IS what it all comes down to.

If that doesn't make sense to you, there's no changing your mind or probably even letting you fully see why we feel that way, but in the end that is where every discussion about it ends for me.

With Izzy & Duff sharing lead vocal duties.

No offense...but i would HATE that.

Duff's voice is only useful for punk - which is fun sometimes when you want a punk cover like Attitude...but on every track - no thanks. Izzy writes great songs - and at times his voice adds value when with someone else...but to me a VR fronted by Izzy would be a snoozefest vocally.

The project needs a dedicated singer, not a singer guitarist, and it needs someone with some serious vocal chops. It needs it's axl big_smile

That's because you're wanting it to be an arena rock band.

I wanted, from day one, to be more of "greatest western-blues bar band in the world" outfit.

I wanted them to use Izzy and be WRITERS. Dylan-territory, not "Set Me Free".

I think I got half a chubby just reading that sentence.

How has the Izzy solo album that both Slash and Duff played on not surfaced yet?

I actually have a pipe/wet dream that the only reason it hasn't is that Izzy is holding it back so if they get back together they have something they can put Axl's vocals on and get something new out quick.

Yeah but did Duff and Slash wan't him to call out Axl.

They've always pulled most of the punches when it comes to Axl, the occasional joke about singers or lateness sure, but when anyone goes on a real attack they shut the fuck down in interviews. Always seems that they were protecting some kind of eventual reunion chance or just that they still liked him on some level to me. They just don't like the antics. But you never see them give a "FUCK AXL" type interview.

Plus everyone (including Axl) knows he's reactionary, so calling Axl bauld, fat and making fun of his appearance...aside from that it was just wrong, was also a stupid fucking idea and I doubt endorsed by the GNR boys at all.

In fact I know Slash didn't cos he said after that Axl press release that he wasn't talking to anyone for weeks and he knew VR would figure out it wasn't true when they saw there was no GNR reunion going on. Was already trouble back then.

To me there's 3 distinct issues:

1. Scott was a junkie and insecure about Axl.
2. Slash was never happy being minimised in VR and prefers to play how he does in his solo shit. I think there's also some kind of tension between duff, matt, and he too - they love each other but they dont always agree on shit - like brothers. That's why this singer thing is so fucked up.
3. They're all junkies and prone to relapses anyway sometimes.

Maybe I'm imagining this, but didn't Slash come out once after Scott had been shit talking Axl, and say Scott shouldn't do it because he wasn't there.  It's completely different if Slash or Duff talk shit, because they're basing it on experiences.

I'm not sure Slash would kick Axl's ass. I've never bought int this hype about Axl being a  tough guy  just because he's crazy but I see a temper in Axl and a willingness to lash out. Slash just seems so laid back it's hard to imagine the guy getting to a point where he'd want to punch someone. Duff would kick both thier asses no questions asked. Maybe thats' what needs to happen. have Duff take a round out of both of them and smarten'em up a bit.

What do I have to do to help make this happen?

For the record, I didn't RSVP, or in any way commit to attending the RRHF. I don't appreciate people putting words in my mouth. Iii|; )'
