#151 Re: Guns N' Roses » Perhaps (2023) to Drop » 100 weeks ago

I looked at the online store for a “Perhaps” cd and came across this:

Guns “and” Roses? This was approved by Team Brazil for manufacturing?

The full extent of their incompetence is astonishing.

Another long-running band that seems interested in its own legacy: The Grateful Dead. I was reading about the incredible CD box sets they have released which cover actual entire tours. And the merch on their website looks classy, not embarrassing like that stupid GnR plastic truck.

They seem to release dozens - actual dozens - of live CDs a year, and the variety in their setlists (which made following them on the road so appealing) looks pretty damned impressive when you look at the track listings. What balls those guys had. They never repeated themselves night to night.

I’m ready to throw some cash at a hoarder if it means we get new music …

I found a still-sealed copy of Prince’s “Musicology” for a buck today and started listening to it. Made me wonder why Axl didn’t follow Prince’s path: release a shitload of music, fast, on his own label (presumably under the Uzi Suicide name).

Gilmour caught a second wind after PF first broke up and for a while was amazing. Did his second solo album, lots of guest spots, reunited Pink Floyd, more guest spots …

Then he got married. It really seems like Polly keeps him on a short leash.

Hardly anyone is going. Practically entire sections are available.

When did they go on sale? I cant see. They still have time to sell a lot i guess but if they don't surely they have to think about downsizing venues in US, or release something

I think even they drop an album tomorrow (impossible) will not save this situation, they are paying the lack of promotion and new things, totally deserved at this point

There is ONE thing they can do with the time remaining and it would work:

Go in the studio with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders (who are opening a lot of shows) and cut some really inspired cover song as a duet and rush it to rock radio and streaming services. No fucking around. Pick something that fits her voice and Axl’s, cut it quick, and get it out.

Possible choices: “Love Hurts” by Nazareth, “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin, “Why Don’t We Do It on The Road” by The Beatles (give Slash space to add a kickass solo), or for a new “Knockin’ …” vibe do “People Get Ready” by Curtis Mayfield (think of the Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart version). They could probably reinvent a Fleetwood Mac song together as well.

Add something with instant name recognition and novelty value to the repertoire. Do it nightly on the tour.

Boom — GnR is newsworthy again.

Consider this:

Led Zeppelin’s first album came out on January 12, 1969. Its last album, Coda, came out November 19, 1982.

A span of 5,069 days.

Chinese Democracy came out November 23, 2008. As of today, July 24, 2023 that is 5,356 since ago.

Led Zeppelin’s entire career occurred in the time since we got the last GNR studio alnumz
