I try to stay out of stuff like this, but here goes...
Nothing will happen as always, except more touring.
What should happen, a new album worked up based on material WRITTEN BY the current band, with maybe 2-3 hold overs from the vault, and a plan of release for the album set up to drop singles for soundtracks and rock radio by the late Summer/early Fall, with the actual LP happening in either late October or November of next year.
But they won't. It's a nostalgia outfit, plain and simple.
This.
As sad as it may seem...
My old evo namesake (Tyler Durden) said it best: "I see all this potential... And I see it squandered"
*Edit*
I was a huge fan of the limitless potential and interesting possibilities with
/Brain and
/
in the band... Once they left, all I wanted was to hear the vault full of material they wrote/recorded with Axl....
,
and...
...Not so much... But, now... a half decade, and a bunch of fucking shows later, I'm way more comfortable with their "vibe".... And I'm almost excited to see what a wild card like
could bring to the table... It's not like he doesn't have a finger on the pulse of what's happening currently in modern rock.. And he's definitely got a feel for the
type shit....
Alas... My confidence that any new music will come to fruition, or that the dozens of leftover CD tracks will ever see the light of day while Uncle Axl still sucks oxygen has reached an all time low... Axlin hit the nail on the head.
Oldies circuit... For as long as Team Brazil is calling the shots...

I downloaded the first 3 seasons... started on 'em today. most of my series knowledge comes from watching it with my mom when I was like 6-9... when they were new. appropriate time to bone up, I suppose....
#173 Re: The Sunset Strip » 'Dallas' to be revived on TNT network » 695 weeks ago
Just sat down and continued the season... ( had left off at like, episode 5)
Wow.
Great ending... How the fuck are they gonna do this without J.R.?
I'm super bummed out.
#174 Re: The Sunset Strip » Soundgarden Discussion (King Animal out NOW!) » 695 weeks ago
I was going to write a review... But, I've been living on it. I love it. I almost don't really want to dissect it. This album is amazing. I may anyway...
But until then... Some quick thoughts:
In the grand scheme of things, it's probably not even close to their best record... But, taking all things into consideration, it was waaaay better than it has any fucking right to be.
Soundgarden took what could have been an opportunity to cash in on the nostalgia reunion bullshit and mail one in with some easily digestible radio fodder, and nobody would have complained. Most people would have even been stoked.
Had they done that, it probably still would have shit all over that last Stone Temple Pilots record. You want an example of some cash-grab nostalgia/ trying to be relevant in today's musical climate, zero integrity move? Look no further than THAT fucking smelly turd. Save one or (maybe 2) kinda decent tracks, that album, IMHO, single-handedly destroyed any fucking respect I ever had for them. They could have just toured... Thank You was a nice sendoff with a pretty kick ass new song.
Not that I ever expected something that awful from the SG record. But, things like the self titled STP album tend to pop in my mind when 90's bands start talking about going into the studio after lengthy hiatuses.
Comparatively, King Animal is a MONSTER... It's well written, executed and deep as a well. While it doesn't necessarily break new ground.. It certainly isn't a bunch of half baked retreads, either. They didn't take any dramatic artistic turns, but they didn't plagiarize themselves poorly either... After 5 years of listening to Death Magnetic.. I know the difference.
They are Soundgarden. Not a bunch of money grubbing geezers trying to be Soundgarden again. It's pretty goddamn refreshing and awesome. They put on a fucking clinic for how this shit is supposed to be done.
They picked up where they left off with Down On The Upside, while incorporating the perspective and confidence they've each individually picked up over the last 15 years.
Lets hope they keep going.

Larry Hagman, 'Dallas' star, dies
by EW staff

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/11/23/larry-hagman-dies-2/
Larry Hagman, the actor best known as the ruthless oilman J.R. Ewing on TV’s Dallas, died Friday afternoon. He was 81.
Members of his family said Hagman died of complications stemming from his recent battle with cancer. “Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” the family said in a statement. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.”
TNT, which airs the current version of Dallas, issued the following statement: “All of us at TNT are deeply saddened at the news of Larry Hagman’s passing. He was a wonderful human being and an extremely gifted actor. We will be forever thankful that a whole new generation of people got to know and appreciate Larry through his performance as J.R. Ewing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.”
Added Dallas studio Warner Bros. and executive producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael M. Robin, and the show’s cast and crew: “Larry Hagman was a giant, a larger-than-life personality whose iconic performance as J.R. Ewing will endure as one of the most indelible in entertainment history. He truly loved portraying this globally recognized character, and he leaves a legacy of entertainment, generosity and grace. Everyone at Warner Bros. and in the Dallas family is deeply saddened by Larry’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and dear friends during this difficult time.”Born to fabled actress Mary Martin and district attorney Larry Hagman in Fort Worth, Tex., Hagman decided to follow in his mother’s footsteps after attending New York’s Bard College — first by appearing in regional theater and then by moving to England to join the cast of his mom’s stage musical, South Pacific. After a tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force (he met his wife, Maj Axelsson, while stationed in England), Hagman returned to New York to perform on Broadway.
The small screen soon beckoned. He made guest appearances on shows like The ALCOA Hour, followed by a two-year stint on the New York-based daytime soap The Edge of Night. His first breakout role came in 1965 when he was recruited to play an amiable astronaut who falls in love with a bottle-dwelling genie in the NBC sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. But he cemented his position as a Hollywood superstar 12 years later by joining CBS’ Dallas. For 14 years, Hagman played the love-him-or-hate-him millionaire J.R.Ewing. The popular show’s infamous Nov. 21, 1980 episode — resolving the previous season finale’s “Who shot J.R.?” cliffhanger — remains the second-highest-rated TV show in history.
Behind the scenes, however, Hagman struggled for years with chronic alcoholism — so much so that a doctor told him in 1995 that he’d have to replace his liver or he’d be dead in six months. “In the heyday of Dallas, it got to the point where I showed up for work about 6:30 in the morning, and by around 9, I might have opened a bottle of champagne, which I would nurse until about noon,” Hagman told People in 1995. “By lunch I might start on another half-bottle of champagne. I would go through about three bottles a day, sometimes with people who would drop by the set, but mostly by myself. I just kept that steady drip going. The drinking sometimes made it harder to remember lines, but I liked that constant feeling of being mildly loaded.” Thanks to the 16-hour liver transplant surgery, Hagman said his doctors “saved his life.” A year later, he served as the national spokesman for the 1996 U.S. Transplant Games and continued to serve as an advocate of organ donation and transplantation until his death. Despite occasional acting roles after Dallas left the air in 1991 (in the 1998 film Primary Colors and a five-episode arc on Nip/Tuck in 2006), Hagman largely withdrew from the limelight. Then, last summer, TNT rebooted Dallas last summer, with Hagman on board. The rest of the cast included other original cast members as well, along with a new generation of the Ewing clan. But last October Hagman announced he was diagnosed with cancer, and said he hoped to continue in his role on the show’s second season.
“As J.R. I could get away with anything — bribery, blackmail and adultery,” Hagman said at the time in a statement. “But I got caught by cancer. I do want everyone to know that it is a very common and treatable form of cancer. I will be receiving treatment while working on the new Dallas series. I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love. Besides, as we all know, you can’t keep J.R. down!”
According to the Dallas Morning News, in addition to his wife, Mr. Hagman is survived by a daughter, Kristina Hagman, a son, Preston Hagman, and five granddaughters. — Lynette Rice contributed to this report
It's a sad day for us all, folks...
If you need someone to talk to, Axlin... I'm here for ya, bud.

Never liked this band

Ok..
Thank you...
Generally, when I see threads about bands I'm not into, I...
.....don't post in them.
#177 Re: Guns N' Roses » 11-21-2012 The Joint, Las Vegas (Being filmed in 3D) » 695 weeks ago
well i hate to be so bluntly negative about it but i mean honestly...if they arent gonna share with the rest of us...why broadcast the fact that they are filming gigs
The same reason they told us that they were releasing an album "soon" for 10 years.
The same reason they felt/feel the need to let anyone know they are/were being productive in any way...
Masturbation.
Guns N' Roses are like that chick at the bar that acts like she's going to fuck everyone to get free drinks, and a bunch of attention. Except now... She's not nearly as hot as she used to be, and we know she's nothing but a fucking cocktease.

I don't expect a new song. I finally got over my HOF butthurt. I just REALLY would like to hear something new. It would revitalize the excitement a thousandfold... Not just with me... With everyone.
#179 Re: The Sunset Strip » Faith No More Guitarist Breaks Silence » 695 weeks ago
I think Patton is to blame for that. I really do. Maybe i'm wrong, but I think Patton's appeal brought a VERY ARROGANT aspect to FNM fans. That somehow thought they were "above" The Real Thing. I've seen the same thing in Pearl Jam fans that thought Ten was juvenile, when PJ turned all self-reflective and artsy.
Pound-for-pound, my personal opinion aside about Album of the Year... The Real Thing is without ANY doubt their best work. It just is.
It'd be like someone arguing that GN'R Lies is better than AFD in a GN'R community. The absolutely only argument i've ever heard against Real Thing is that the album was popular and a bunch of casuals liked it. Ummm... yeah, because it's uh -- good?
Bottom line -- no one would even know the name of Faith No More if it wasn't for The Real Thing. They were flash-in-the-pan nobodies with Chuck.
This.
An overwhelming majority of modern day FNM fans are mainly Patton fans. By that, I mean... Those hardcore Patton motherfuckers that go out and buy EVERYTHING with his name on it. I'm down with like... 80% of the shit I've heard... But, there are bonafide "Patton Snobs" that are into every single fucking fart noise that passes between his lips, including, but not limited to, his records that consist of him making fucked up noises into a microphone for 45 minutes...
To them, he's a "true avant garde artist" that can do no wrong...
Unless they're referring to The Real Thing... Which, by his minions, is generally considered to be "sub par and simplistic" and is a result of Patton "not having the time to adequately place his unique, visionary stamp" on the thing. It's a bullshit way of keeping his mystique alive...
It's an amazing record. Definitely their best. I prefer Angel Dust, but in the same way I prefer ...And Justice For All. I recognize that Master Of Puppets is Metallica's best album, but Furbush considers Justice to be their masterpiece to his ears...
Axlin, I love that you brought up Pearl Jam.... Everyone that was around and wired into the scene back then knows that PJ very purposefully got progressively shittier and more abrasive for years to combat the backlash that had begun with Cobain's discouraging remarks about their "integrity"...They withdrew completely. Anything that had hooks or groove was shelved until Lost Dogs dropped with very few exceptions... They even lost me in that decade. And I supported that band long after everyone else in my circle of friends did. I stuck around until No Code before I too, jumped ship...
During that stretch, they lost a ton of their original fans, but kept the die hards and amassed a very Patton-like cult following of their own snobs that acted like Ten and Vs. were pieces of shit and Binaural was a brilliant artistic statement... I'm not saying any of their music is trash, by any means... but, to deny the instrumental perfection or the raw power, energy and melodic emotional soul of their early work is pointless. A compelling argument cannot be made.
