#11 Re: Guns N' Roses » RE-Recorded AFD Vs. Re-Recorded CD » 301 weeks ago

I'd really like to hear Slash and Duff disassemble and remake The Blues and see what comes out of it.

And maybe This I Love for shits and giggles.

Besides that, curiosity killed the kitty.

AFD 1999, baby.

The first listen I thought "this sounds like Velvet Revolver" and "ok, pretty blatant Teen Spirit riff grab".

After some additional listens has a Jowls / Jordan sort of Bucket vibe to it in that cruising section.

I dig it. Nice and easy, goes down smooth.

Here are the Cliff's Notes on Madagascar.

We have 5 versions so far.

The first 3 are the new leaks.

  • Madagascar (Old Josh Drums) (2001)
Josh on drums. Dry(er) mix vocals. MLK quotes minimal FX. Raw guitar sounds. FKA: Madagascar (2000)/Walker leak

  • Madagascar (New Brain Drums) (2001)
Brain on drums. Different processing song-wide. Very similar to Josh version.

  • Madagascar (2001)
Brain drums. Added FX and different mix on MLK section. Tons of outro FX.

  • Madagascar (2007)
    Added strings. Different processing song-wide.

  • Madagascar (2008)
The Dizzy Reed bongos version. FKA: Antiquiet / Skwerl leak

I like the raw sounds of the Josh Freese version. It has a punk vibe to it. Fuck you, I don't have to play guitar well.

The Brain +3dB version is a close second. The drums sound like cannon fire. Gives it a jolt of energy.

YMMV.

I like the channel cycling on the Madagascar Josh Version during the solo and MLK quote section.

It gives you a better taste of what each of them have to offer.

But that excluded, Brain's drums +3dB 'till I die..

BTW, this is the only track that really has "Brain's feel".

It's eerie to me how similar the Freese and Brain saga was to the Adler and Sorum drama.

The punky work horse (Adler/Freese) gets sent off to make glue while the bombastic, poppier (Sorum/Brain) tours off their material.

I like Brain quite a bit but once Freese left the thing started falling apart.

The thing lost its edge.

This is so much purer as an instrumental.

I'm partial to the drums +3dB instrumental from the Brain discs.

Bucket's work really stands out more. Tommy is a little buried but I just love that kick of the drum.

I don't remember where I heard it from but I was told once upon a time RTB was fired and brought back, left again only to be courted another time but he never returned.

It's similar to the Buckethead scenario, it would seem.

Those in the know are welcome to correct and refine, of course.

I'm flabbergasted. It's not like Ezrin is a hack. His resume speaks for itself. Only thing I can think of is Axl being correct about various agendas.

It's not paranoia if they're really after you.

I've always been suspicious of the Jay-Z line:

"They gonna Axl Rose you, welcome to the jungle"

I've wondered if that's some sort of hint that the record company persona non grata'd Axl.
