Loving the french horns at the intro to Maddy. I've heard the song so much over the years the novelty of that sound on a gnr song has wore off, but lately I've been tuning into them more and more. Wish they were a bit louder, but since the album version actually has someone playing the french horn, I figure it just has a much softer and more subtle sound than the live version which is played on a keyboard.

Riad drumming = awesomeness

That Del James article is pretty snide, it starts out really interesting though, but then he just goes off on a smug tangent about people questioning GNRs timekeeping etc. Some of his gripes are valid, complaining about setlists is silly, but his explanations about it all being rock n roll attitude and non conformist are cliched and sound contrived.
I wish everyone associated with GNR would stop concerning themselves so much with the people who dont like the band, the music, the shows etc and just focus on the people who do like them.

Well as I said this is all a bit tacky imo but, if that was your mom, which it seems like she's kind of become a surrogate mom/elder sister whatever, and nothing wrong with that, how would your mom react if she kept seeing you attacked in the most outrageous and distorted ways?
Mine would be far more likely to attack right back, she wouldn't so much send shivers down your spine as rip it out and feed it to you (and I mean hypothetocal GnR hater online, not you personally
) anyway it's a much more honest and from-the-heart reaction, and blessedly free of spin and buttkissing to the fans.
I have little interest to be honest, but I;ve been reading this thread, so yeah... I personally presume that the guy (axl) who didn't cave to band member's pressures in the old GnR, to the pressures of addictions to hardcore stuff like heroin that caught up so many contemporaries in their heyday, to label pressures recently or to fan pressures EVER (not even to go onstage in a timely manner/at all lol!) isn't... exactly an easy person to get "under the thumb."
I'm smelling misogyny - not @ you, Coppereye, just the whole anti-Mrs L thing I've read elsewhere from time to time. Reeks a tiny bit of the notion that we want our rock stars to live tragic lives, and god forbid they might find contentment and some vestige of a family, and stability -_ rocker's wives are notoriously unpopular with the fans after all.
If she was an elder male manager figure, one with a track record as some kind of rock royalty maybe, I doubt she'd be anything like as demonised, I also suspect her ethnicity (with its implications for many in the US as second-class citizen etc) and her initial role in his life as a nanny is what's riling a lot of people up - the servants are getting uppity, etc etc nauseating BS.
just my rant - I realise I;ve now become part of the problem so to speak discussing the private lives of private individuals, but hey the internet'll do that to ya every time.

At the end of the day, if she's making Axl's life better i bless her for it, the same as I would if he was my next-door neighbour or some random guy who collects my trash, we all have a right to find people we care about and on the slim off-chance he'd have been more unhappy day in and day out of his one and only life without her, but we'd have had - oooh, an album or two extra, meh - that's not a trade anyone should consider worthwhile.
This isn't like some defence, just my feelings, not knowing any of the people involved etc etc, I;m just wishing them all well. there's more important things in life than buying some new CD.
(annnndddd.... 'pologies for all the typos, finished working an all-nighter had a few beers!

Bullseye! Great post man
#2135 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » what happened to the UYI era backing singers? » 897 weeks ago
I dont think so, its rumored, but I think people are free to say what they want. Ultimately some chose to talk a lot and others chose not to, some people are just more respectful than others for whatever reasons. I doubt the backing singers had to sign confidentiality agreements because there no shortage of people who were in the band and worked on the Illusions tours who spoke about the experience.
I think the rumour stems from the contract they tried to get journalists sign back in the old days, the one where GNR would read and give the OK to any articles they were writing before they went to print. A bloody silly idea
I figure it was just that nobody ever bothered to ask the backing singers about the experience, and thats why they never spoke.
I never ever heard Teddy Zig Zag speak about GNR either until this fairly recent interview:

Aye there are people from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Ireland. I dont think there is anyone from Wales, and you dont seem to get many Welsh users on GNR boards at all which is odd. There are other members from mainland European countries as well, and also from Australia and Latin America, but I think the majority are from North America.

I heard that one of them died but I'm not 100% sure if its true. I've always been curious of what their experiences and recollections of the Illusions tour is, but I dont think they have ever given an interview.

Its still on their myspace, if thats what you mean?
#2139 Re: Guns N' Roses » The GnREvolution Q&A with Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal » 897 weeks ago
Chi Dem is not your typical album, there's no other that's gone through the journey that album did, and no other probably ever will. It's not a simple 'play what ya want on your own song how ya want it and no one else gets a say in it'. My own albums are like that, this one is about being a piece of a very big musical picture. Where else will you hear me and Bucket and Frank and Brain and Robin and Richard and Axl and Sebastian and Dizzy and Chris and Tommy and Paul in songs together? It's a one of a kind, the rules don't apply.
A stellar description of the project.
I thought that too, its weird cause I'd never really looked at it from that perspective before but it makes a lot of sense. There are a lot of killer and diverse musicians on that album, often on the one song, its one hell of a novelty for an album to have and its under appreciated.

Nice suprise
Thank you Ron and you too Neemo!!
I'm dying to hear Scraped live now, its such a tease just hearing them talk about playing.
It doesnt sound like its all over for GNR, just the usual delays for the time being. Its nice to get an acknowledgement on those fan questions, sounds like the idea has just been abandoned, pity.
Damn good interview, and massive respect to Ron for getting back in touch, its a great gesture from him and very much appreciated
