I just read up on a few classics. Orwell's Animal Farm (1984 is my favorite book of all time) & Kafka's Metamorphosis (and other short stories). Just started reading Child 44, but I'm having trouble getting into it.
I dont think I finished 1984, I found it a bit to dry and depressing. I'll have to give it another bash. I read it alongside Fahrenheit 451in my teens when I believed in grand conspiracies and a secret world order.

I've just finished the Harry Potter Series waiting for the new movie next month (Flame Away). I'm now re-reading the Talisman by Stephen King, a book I haven't read for a few years, but enjoy immensly.
I thought I would hate the Harry Potter books, but I quite liked them. I'm not too keen on the movies though, they are alright but could have been much better.

I'm not going along with the "it would've sounded better with ...." argument anymore, I used to think Buckethead would have produced something killer, but now I realise thats beside the point and its unfair.
Should've, would've and could've are irrelevant and are unfairly used as a fantasy gauge to judge the music on the album. It is what it is, end off story.
They are different musicians, and saying someone else would play something "better" is completely subjective and worthless as an appraisal to the next guy.
I get the song now, I'm more inclined to believe its about someone who died than a chick who dumped him, mabye his mother.
I think the solo is supposed to be a representation of the gut wrenching, sickening pain you feel when you lose someone. Mabye Robin's style meant he was the only guy who could pull off exactly what Axl wanted.
He said about Catcher - "The bridge b4 the solo is an artistic interpretation of a institutionalized mind."
Nobody knew that was the intention and you've got to think, what else on the album is artistic interpretation?
Madagascar is a definate imo, I think those vocals are supposed to sound like someone who has been beaten down for a long time and are wearisome but still defiant. Most people think this is Axls responce to all the flack he got about using the "n" word on One In A Million and being accused of being a racist.
I think this song tries to represent the voice of those people who were oppressed and treated as worthless, mindless slaves and for so long.
Given that Axl wouldnt have put the song on the album without the MLK quotes and apparantly personally met with MLK's family to secure the rights to use the quotes, tells you there is quite a deep thought process behind the song.
Its ambiguous as well, it fits perfectly with the fall out from the disintegration of the old band from Axl's persective, and also the listener can relate to it from their own life experiences and feelings.

This song has grown on me quite a bit recently, I'm even enjoying Robins solo now
I'm telling you, this song would do great in the charts during the Christmas season. But the video needs snow!

It ranked quite highly on Empires top 100 films of the 20th century, Oz was ranked higher of course, but Toy Story is still a great film. Most of the Pixar stuff is great.

Just thinking about Still Game makes me laugh, I love it! Porridge/Alan Partridge are both great too, just a shame they only made a few series of each.
US TV Series get 24 episodes give or take per series, always wondered why the UK only do 6-8 per series
3 seasons of Porridge mean theres only 18 episodes total, with a few Xmas specials etc added. Nowhere near enough
Porridge never gets old though, its repeated on UK Gold or something all the time and you can still sit and watch it without feeling that you've seen it all before. The Scottish guy came from Greenock, it was always wierd seeing this 70's show featuring a black guy with this deep gruff scots accent
Still Game was fantastic, it started going downhill after series 3 when it started getting shown in England and they toned down the "Scottish-ness" so those dafty's could understand what was being said.

So what was the last book you read then?
I've just finished Jurassic Park, a better story than the film, but this is one book that I'm actually glad I seen the film first.
It gets a bit tiresome nearing the end of the book and rapters are still eating people, surely even they must sometimes feel like they just cant eat another thing, not even a child
I've just started on The Lost World, the sequal. I'm quite pleased that so far it is baring little resemblence to the film, so I might get some suprises.
Actually a lot of the scenes in Jurassic Park 2 and 3 are pulled out of the first novel which I wasnt expecting.
