Calling DJ a Slash wannabe and downplaying his writing ability in SixxAM and with Motley sounds a little like trashing him to me. Sorry, that's just how I see it. People just seem to be overdoing sticking up for Slash, when NOBODY has claimed that Slash isn't a top 10 guitarist of all time. You seem to be creating arguments that aren't even there.
once again, im not downplaying DJ's abilities. but Saints OF Los Angeles was written by Simple Plan and is the best track guitar wise on SOLA and no one in their right mind is gonna sit here and say the guitar work on SOLA comes close to that of Wildside,Live Wire,Dr Feelgood,Kickstart My Heart etc.
DJ is a good riff writer however, and that will get GNR sounding more like the original, thus should allow them to get back to the top of the charts.
DJ is a Slash wannabe. that isn't a slight, its the truth but one can say Slash was a Joe perry Wannabe. not always a bad thing. U put a curly wig on DJ and its a match.

I find any comparison of CD to the old albums to be premature.
For instance 23 years later i still love Appetite, 19 years later i still love UYI's
2 years later , im already sick of most of CD
so its one of those where CD is FRESH so people are going to have a stronger liking to it today cause u haven't wore it out for 2 decades.
Appetite and UYI's still hit me as hard and get my adrenaline pumping same as when i first heard it.
With CD.. i have to be in very special moods and i skip most of it after only 2 years.
so wait ten years, then compare. thats really the only fair way to do it.

There YOU go. I never said you had to like him better than Slash. I've never said that in this thread and I don't think anyone else has either. For some reason though, a contingent of Slash fans are feeling the need to stick up for him and trash DJ at the same time. NOBODY has stated, as far as I can tell that DJ Ashba is a better guitarist than Slash. The ONLY thing that was said, is that DCK prefers DJ's work to Slash's from the mid 90's on. I'm not so sure why you take such offense to that.
ne band fans have a need to shit on/discredit the original band to try and make the new band look great.
so when someone says they prefer the old band.. somehow they jump on that fan as if he or she is shitting on the new band when in reality, not being better than a top 5-10 all time great band is no slight in any way shape or form.
saying DJ is not better than Slash is trashing him how? u do realize Slash was voted 2nd best Guitarist of ALL TIME in Time magazine.
so DJ not being better than Slash isn't saying DJ sucks. just he isn't on that level.
U accused me of no longer liking DJ when i was steering the bandwagon before. I still love DJ, he just isn't Slash.

hey my personal taste, I'll take Motley Crue greatest hits over Led Zeppelin or The Beatles but I'd never sit here and say MC are a better band cause objectively i can listen and realize they aren't better, i just prefer it.
I'd never go into a room and debate Motley as being better just cause my "taste" likes them more.
Seems anytime axl gets a new guitar player.. the whole "Taste" thing comes into play. Finck now DJ.
D, it seems like you're arguing just for the sake of arguing. You were one of the biggest DJ supporters when he came on board, saying how good a writer he was citing SixxAM and Motley Crue. Now all of a sudden, he's a Slash wannabe and SixxAM and MC were nothing special. What exactly happened to turn you off to DJ? I have a feeling you just want to stick up for Slash, but there's no need to tear down DJ in the process.
And as for taste. As much as I enjoyed Contraband, Libertad, AND Slash. We're not talking about The White Album here. It is entirely possible for someone to enjoy The Heroin Diaries or Saints of Los Angeles as much if not more than those 3 albums. And no sales numbers, awards, or critical acclaim can change that.
See though Faldor, there u go with the all or nothing New GNR supporter M.O.
just because DJ isn't better than Slash in no way means i now hate the guy or thinks he sucks. Just saying, he doesn't compare to Slash. he is a million times better than Robin.I still believe he can write some kick ass awesome stuff and GNR will be back to the top of the rock charts.
He still though, is a Slash clone and a poor man's Slash at best.

for me, I still love SOD,IF the world,TWAT,Shacklers,Sorry,TIL,Prostitute,Madagascar.. Catcher sometimes although i hate the intro and axl's vocals being buried.
Rest of it i can go the rest of my life without hearing. just very average.

One of my teams this week failed to crack the 50 point barrier, and my QB had 20 of those points. Had to be my worst week ever, if not THE worst week in history. Nobody outside of my QB had a TD or more than 7 points. Just awful. I guess there's nowhere to go but up.
I lost to D in our league by less than a point. If only Heap didn't drop that TD pass, OR got up and lunged an extra yard after that long pass he hauled in. On the bright side, it looks like I squeaked out a win by .08 points in a money league thanks to Antonio Gates last reception last night. Hopefully the score holds. I've gotten burned before. That's the team I had Kolb starting though. So to even be in the game when your QB gets 1 point is fortunate. As for Kolb, I did pick up Henne before Sunday so I have him in my lineup right now but he wasn't all that great this week and next week has a tough matchup at the Vikings. I could pick up Vick and start whoever gets the nod for the Eagles, but I'm not too thrilled with that idea. V. Young, A. Smith, Campbell, D. Anderson, Delhomme are some options.
OMG i was sick watching that game. cause I had Forte starting till 12:55 and put Harrison in last minute.
They may come back to bite me sitting Forte cause last year i lost a tie break due to having low points.

I would've respected Robin more if he had stuck with the goth.. when he switched the classic rock/Frusciante look, made him seem like a poser.

and the motley SOLA shit.... Simple Plan wrote the title track and gave it to Nikki. Rest of the album is pretty subpar music wise and i am a diehard Motley fan. None of SOLA is on par with any of Motley's guitar riffs let alone GNR stuff.
Ghost shits all over anything DJ has ever done musically....ditto for By THe Sword Slither even Fall To Pieces.

Apparently Matt Sorum is an Axl copycat, cause he used to wear a bandana.
To be fair, didn't people call Weiland a copycat for wearing the police hat?
GNR fans have selective memories.
