I dont like that grenade design, its too plain for an album cover. It would be ok being included somewhere on the cover design but not as the focal point.
Rereleasing the album with that as an alternative cover is hardly going to reverse the downward spiral.

Very underwhelmed, but good luck to the guy.
I wasnt a huge fan of Robins playing live but I admired him for sticking with the band through all the shit. By 1999 he was fed up with the quagmire creative process and Axl not delivering on the vocals or finishing songs.
He stepped up when Buckethead left and made himself a far better performer and player than he was in 02. To be honest when I seen him live he was awesome, not a bum note and all Slash's solos nailed perfectly. The only boob was his solos which were excruciating and bemusing to the crowd, people were looking at each other wondering what the fuck they were hearing.
I dont blame him for going to work with NIN, I would have ditched Axl years before, NIN is a slick professional outfit, GNR is an utter shambles.
I cant believe people think Axl is suddenly going to start touring and releasing albums religiously. Not a hope in hell. There might be another album some way along the line with The General etc on it, but that will be it. The next few years imo will be the last opportunity to see Axl play live again before he retreats into his mansion for another decade.
Axl couldnt get an album made when he had arguably the most talented rosta of muscians and producers in GNR history back at the start of the millenium. If this guy adds anything to the mix it will be in the vein of Bumblefoot and Franks "additions" to the last album.

Did Axl say this design was an alternative cover?
#3034 Re: Guns N' Roses » So what about that drumming??? » 920 weeks ago
Remember Brain talking about that weird hall he recorded in, that gave the drums a huge sound?
Seems like it was a pointless exercise, I assume that sound was lost in the mixing and mastering process over the years.

Catcher has some great beats. The first half has a killer groove but really subtle, it actually sounds fun to play.
The second half is absolutely fantastic and Brain unleashes some kickass shit in the outro - but my beef with it is that as the song goes on the drums seem to disapear into the backround while the vocals and guitars and pushed to the fore. Kills the moment for me.

I didnt like the poll because its a bit to narrow minded, I like a lot of the drumming and not just one song.
So whats your favourite drumming on the album then? How does it compare to previous albums and how will it stand up in the future?

So you just type out a list of some of your favourite songs and they go in the hat?
#3038 Re: Guns N' Roses » Revamped "Behind The Music" To Feature Axl? » 920 weeks ago
I wonder who will else will be on it, if its Beta and Co talking about Slash I dont think I'll bother tuning in.
I hope its more about the making of CD, speaking to the people who worked on it over the years and Axls hopes and aspirations.
If he wants to dish some dirt I would love to hear about the aborted tours, riots and the constant obsticles that prevent the normal functioning of the band.

Olorin wrote:I dont why, because I do love agressive music, but I prefer the more reflective songs like Madagascar and Prostitute on CD.
I think he just sounds whiny on Sorry.
And that right there shows why CD is the definitive mixed bag of an album.
Now we've got a Madagascar guy, who doesn't like Sorry.
I'm telling you the combinations of preferences vs. non-preferences on this album is infinite.
So many different people like so many different combo of songs, diehards and casuals alike, it's virtually impossible to pinpoint down where the album stands strong, with a widespread agreement.
Like with AFD, just about everyone could agree, diehards and casuals, that they all really liked Jungle, City & Sweet Child.
CD has some amazing songs, but what I find amazing, might totally differ to the next person. Nobody can find a general consensus with this album.
.
I dont know if thats good or bad, some people tell you its amazing that there is such diverse views on the songs. But from a commercial point of view I think its a disaster, you need at least one song that can carry the album to the masses, if you want large sales that is. If you dont care, fine, its all good.
I always thought Live And Let Die and Heavens Door were included in the Illusions as a simple way of guaranteeing each album would have a song that would be appeal to the casual music fan.
The genuine creatively inspired big guns on those albums were not an automatic key to commercial success.

Has it always been about human rights? What about during the 50s and 60s when suspicion of having some communist ideals could get you arrested? Mabye I've just watched too much TV about America , it all just seemed like sensationalised scare mongering.
