It's not too advanced for my ears....Prodigy was doing it better in 1995.

I can't speak for him but I always took it to mean advanced as in what we consider to be GNR.

Like AFD era GNR means raw guitars plugged into loud amps in the spirit of Aerosmith etc.

By UYI era Axl forced that to also include Elton John and Queen style music.

I think the plan was that it was to next include stuff like prodigy, NiN, and maybe a side order of Ice Cube or something.

But he knew it wasn't going to be an easy sell to the audience who likes them for what they did originally.

I remember in his talk about the 3 albums he was speaking that way too, of moving further and further away from the traditional sound each album.

But I mean without the original guys on board he was faced with a mamoth task to try and recreate one of the best bands in history, while changing it's style of music into an area that was both new and frankly not what the existing band was good at. So he's going to face push back from the original band, the label, the media and the fans for that.....all this while being a guy from a bad background, poor education, with his own mental health problems, in an industry of con men and thieves, junkies, and suddenly being one of the most famous people on the planet....

Is it any wonder that failed? It's just impossible. Bad idea all along I guess, but if thats what he wanted to do, that's what he wanted to do.

The real shame to me is that they could have sorted out their shit and moved on around 2004 - back when there was still some game left in everyone. A reunion back then and we may have seen a lot more music I think.

That’s a good post

It amazes me they didn’t get Josh for the reunion. He has chemistry with both Axl and Slash. It makes too much sense lol

Am I crazy? How would Josh have chemistry with Slash? Josh was a session player for Paul Westerberg and Stinson plus was drummer in The Replacements reunion. He literally had nothing to do with Axl or Slash

Not sure but I just checked and the Grateful Dead had 2 for a while as well.

Yeah that could of been great if he was. I get the comments about him not getting to shine, but the thing is with so many people involved I'm not sure any of them really got to. I mean there are songs on that album with 2 drummers on ffs.

Brain spoke about the plan being to have two drummers at some point in an interview around 4 years ago. If you remember the GMatter site video's from about 10 years ago, there was an animated stage design video on there which showed two drum kits on stage at the same time lol. I love the absurdity of the idea but fucking hell that would have been mad.

Allman Brothers had two drums…founders of “Southern Rock”….just saying

Bucket plays solos on Sorry, If The World, Shacklers and Scraped, CD outro after Finck, SOD outro…..he’s all over the album! Read the credits again!

bucket IRS could have been a good first single but would be the same as TWAT….huge guitar solos by someone who wasn’t in the band anymore.

I get what you're saying now.

After CD was released and how anticlimactic it was, I swore to myself I would ignore all leaks so I could properly experience a new GNR album....an experience I hadn't had since I was a teenager.

Of course...that was when we were expecting its followup on a normal timetable. I know some other fans felt the same.

It quickly reached the point where I just said fuck it....if it leaks....I listen.

Why wait when two things could happen....

They go years without releasing the leaked material

I drop dead from a heart attack or get run over by a bus

It's a very unusual, strange band to be a fan of. Absolutely nothing substantial is guaranteed to occur....and more than likely won't.

It's why the hardcore base 100% jumped all over that box set like Roseanne Barr on a loose meat sandwich.

CHINESE DEMOCRACY is not disappointing.
BETTER,STREET OF DREAMS,THERE WAS A TIME,SCRAPED,SORRY,THIS I LOVE,I.R.S.,are great songs...SCHACKLER and IF THE WORLD are good...what disappointed you?

We had been listening to most of the songs for a decade at that point...the earlier leaks were superior to the album, and the songs were cut and paste hell.

Chinese Democracy is not a pleasurable listening experience.

No doubt….outside of Bucket’s fantastic work and a few nice licks from Robin, the guitars are pitchy and whiny as hell. Way too many guitar parts that were NEVER needed. It ruins an otherwise interesting album. When I wanna hear some Chi Dem, I only play 4 songs….TWAT, IRS, Madagascar and Prostitute for the outro.
